WDW has the worst parade choreography. They even take the old Pixar parades from DCA and dumb down the stunts and choreography.

The performers union WDW uses (Equity) is different from the union used at DLR (AGVA). Generally, Equity/AGVA performers are those performing in mainstage shows like Nemo, Aladdin, etc., and non-character atmosphere like Citizens of Hollywood. Characters and parade dancers on both coasts are non-Equity/AGVA, and while AGVA doesn't have many restrictions on where the line is between AGVA and non-AGVA, Equity has very clear restrictions that parade performers are held to. You'll notice Fantasmic choreography is different at WDW than at DLR - that's because if they performed the original DLR choreography, the dancers would have to be made Equity and paid more per hour than they are now. Same reason BPB's choreography was simplified when it moved to DHS. Disney doesn't want to pay the parade kids Equity, so you'll never see the difficult choreography from DLR at WDW.

Thanks for the explanation.

I don't mind the dancers (heck they have more talent than me!) but I feel a parade should keep moving. If I wanted to watch someone performing in a stopped situation, I'm taking in a show in air conditioning.

Well "boo hiss" to TDO for cheapening another Disney experience for us all.

To be fair, WDW has many more Equity performers than DL. Budgets are an ugly truth.

Over the last decade, Team Disney Orlando has chopped budgets where they should have spent money. But parade choreography is small beans compared to Future World at Epcot. :D

I mean not really proportionally when you compare the number in four parks compared to two parks. Almost every show outside of the parades have some kind of union performer be it singer, musician, or dancer.

It's true that there are more Equity performers at WDW then there are AGVAs at DLR, but DLR has aggressively added AGVA entertainment over the past two years and AGVAs are paid almost twice as much as Equity performers, who get somewhere around $15-$16 an hour (AGVAs get $27). While making all parade dancers Equity would be more expensive for WDW, it wouldn't break Disney's bank.

But then again, TDO can't stomach paying for parades to run as is. Or maintenance. Or a lot of important things...

Except for their bonuses for cutting the budgets to the bone.

To be clear, neither of those numbers are entirely correct, and all union salaries are 100% negotiable. And they DO negotiate, if you've got the talent. It is true, however, that all of WDW is generally on a lower pay scale than DLR. mostly because it is significantly more expensive to live in SoCal.

Ok, Im sitting here listening to Parade of Dreams soundtrack. I wonder, Will WDW get a new Parade for its 50th Anniversary? It is 8 years away. Or will they run FoF into the ground? (im just curious on peoples opinions)

It'll be renamed Celebrate the Fantasy by then and feature the music of whatever Disneyland gets for its 60th anniversary.
