FastPass+ Most Certainly Not Coming Back As It Was

Certainly an unlimited product would be attached to a very high premium, but I would still be surprised if it weren’t more attainable than people here are lead to believe.

Disney holds all the cards - and Disney doesn't want the game to end. So you basically never want to give the consumer completely unrestricted access because then you've completely devalued the idea of 'skipping the wait'.

Disney WANTS lines - the point is lines need to be managable.

If a Disney park had no lines, you blow through everything there is to do in 4hrs and then say "now what???" - thus creating demand for MORE attractions. That's not in Disney's favor.

Disney knows there is value in 'skipping lines' - but selling that has operational impacts as well so there is always a balancing act.

As others have pointed out, Disney has already set the bar in many examples of what a paid FP is worth. The dining options for F!, desert parties, Club level, etc. Most of those examples have set a price of $20+ for a SINGLE FP. Disney has set examples where they've charged basically double the park admission price for admission to a lower admission park. I think that suggests anything that would involve a 'full day' perk is going to be at a minimum the park admission price.. and probably much higher.

But again, giving 'unlimited' is a real danger... both pricing and operationally. It's far easier to commoditize and manage the pool if you sold things on a per use basis. Sell bundles... etc.

This is starting to sound more and more like MaxPass which is $20.
I think if they can get an extra 20 dollars per ticket for something they already used to give, then that's an easy win. But on top of the scheduling of fastpasses that people like at WDW, at least for the first few.

One thing I can easily imagine:
Genie app “ride now” for an up charge, with dynamic pricing.

Skip the 2 hour line at FOP for $39.99 per person.
Skip the 60 minute line at Mine Train for $19.99.
“Pirates of the Caribbean is currently a 25 minute line, but the Genie can grant your wish and ride now for $4.99”

So depending on the attraction, the time of day, the length of the standby line, the “Genie lightning pass” price is fluid. Constantly reacting to supply and demand.

just 1 way it could work.

Exactly. They have to price them so it is limited. Probably only a certain number each day and "when they're gone they're gone"

Such a system is fine with me if it finances new attractions and content.
If by attractions and content, you mean yachts for Chapek, then yes. Chapek has no desire to invest. He will rearrange the deck chairs until the ship goes down. He’s not investing.

At WDW, I imagine the product will offer even more access than MaxPass does at DLR. So, it’s certainly going to be at least $100 per person per day.

We’re debating how much access they’re going to offer and how exclusive it is going to be (based on price) when in reality, I can guarantee you at this moment that Disney doesn’t even know yet. 😂

I wonder if it would be free for deluxe hotel stays...

If so, I wonder if I could convince them that Gran Destino is a deluxe hotel....

😂
You know I kind of thought they might go in that direction at first, but it doesn’t make any business sense at all.

The problem is DVC = Deluxes. This is the key distinction from what Universal is doing with Express Pass. They don’t have timeshares (as far a I know).

They are not going to give specialty treatment to DVC guests, they already have your money.

IMO that fixes nothing.

Cheapest Christmas room at GF is $1155 per night, highest is $4300 per night for a 2BR club level.
Even a water view regular room at Beach Club is $1,000

DVC already has substantial AP discounts. But it really depends on what the future or DVC is. If their plan is to continue to build DVC resorts and convert hotel rooms to DVC rooms (like they are at the Grand Floridian), FastPass perks would sell a lot of points in a hurry and demolish the resale market; who certainly would not get FastPass privileges.

They could also open their own resale market for DVC to allow owners to swap/sell which would turn DVC into a recyclable profit center for them.

A perk like FastPasses is an awfully big carrot and costs them nothing.

I doubt this will happen, but I would not completely discount the DVC angle.

effectively HOT lanes for theme park lines.

I don't think Disney will go full evil like that.. but if they do, everyone will fully see them as full evil. Which is why I don't think Disney will cross that line.

They won’t, they don’t do tacky and confusing pricing structures like that and never will.

I just want them to do something sooner rather than later.
In a parallel universe without Covid it would have happened already.

Oh, they do.
