FastPass is the dumbest thing Disney ever did.

No, they aren't getting it for the simple reason that they do not understand that stand by would be even longer if fast pass line was rolled into it. As a matter of fact the stand by line wait would be the same or with or without fast pass or longer without fast pass. Fast pass just means some people are waiting inline elsewhere.

Another way to think of it is those people in the FP line were simply in front of you in the stand by line. They aren't cutting they were just having their place saved for them. Kind of like getting into line and calling out "I've got this spot" then going and doing something else until their trun to ride.

This is so logical to me I am failing to understand how people aren't comprehending.
Bump around an anti-vaccination forum for a week or two and it will make a good ol FP debate feel like slipping into a warm bath.

As am I....as am I...

I just don't think some people can comprehend that just because you have a fastpass, that doesn't automatically mean you are also waiting elsewhere and making a different ride or attraction have a longer ride than if you were just standing in the real line for the ride you have a fastpass for.

I imagine that there is probably a way to figure this out with real statistics and math models. Real data instead of anectodal stories and simple examples would be really useful. I just don't have the time nor interest to do it.

But sometimes I will get to a ride with a 1 hour wait and get a FP due in an hour. After getting the FP, I will stand in the standby line so I can ride it twice in an hour. By your logic, I'd be standing in line in front of myself, which is impossible because there's only one castevens. That brings me into a dimension that blows my mind. Whoa.

I'm sorry, but I love Fastpass. I think it's one of the best things ever invented, just behind Saran Wrap (little 2,000-Year-Old-Man reference there). It's one of the things that makes me love Disney. I'd hate to see it go. Hopefully it never will.

We all know Stich's Great Escape is the dumbest thing Disney ever did.

I have to disagree. Closing the Adventurers club was the dumbest thing Disney ever did.

Talk about opening a can of worms! We're more likely to all agree about FastPass...

Dumbest Move? I nominate gutting the original Journey into Imagination. That was just dumb.

I think the angle that should be focused on here is why did Disney do it in the first place? There had to be some reason why Disney would have invested in the technology and hardware to install Fastpass machines at its attractions. If it did nothing to decrease the amount of time its guests spent standing in line, why would they invest capital to do it?

I think the answer is fairly clear. The research Disney did found that if they implement this system, it would create less time standing in line at attractions and more time available to experience other things. Wether that experience is other attractions, gift shops, or thumb twiddling is another topic.

Bottom line, Disney would not have done it if there was going to be no net gain.

Wasn't it fairly well confirmed from the beginning that the idea behind Fastpass, at least from Disney's perspective, was to get people out of the lines so they would have more time to shop (particularly while they waited for the FP return time to roll around). In the end FP failed to lead to more shopping and, of course, the impact upon queues we've been debating for page after page.

My two-cents worth, which is probably all my opinion is worth, is that they have the typical attraction exit gift shop backwards. Let people mill around in a shop while they wait to be admitted - and have nowhere else to go and nothing better to do - rather than after exiting when they are anxious to be on their way.

Quite honestly I can't believe they HAVEN'T tried this!

So if its such a failure, why does Disney continue to do it?

When you are downloading a file do you just sit there and stare at the progress bar or do you do other things on your computer?
Whoa...wait...you can do other things on your computer while a file downloads? I think you just blew a transistor in my Tandy! :p

You know who probably has those? Disney.

You know who probably used them? Disney.

Not directed at you musketeer, but I think many folks forget that Disney does actually know what it is doing most of the time. They wouldn't have made an investment so large as FP without know that the return would be positive.

I thought it was so they could all control our minds with the FP conspiracy?
