Fantasyland Expansion Officially Begins

I believe that the Toontown Station will be demolished and a new one will be built a bit further south, toward Tomorrowland. At least this is what the rendering imply.

There will have to be some RR down time during both demolition and new construction - especially during demolition, for safety reasons.

Interesting.

Yes. Mickey and Minnie's houses should be long gone by then, based on the timetables I have heard.
Arial's Grotto and Scuttle's will be the first to go. Toontown goes next, at least the north side of it.

Not exactly, but kinda close. PH, when and if it ever comes as part of Phase 2, will be a bit southeast of the bulk of Towntown.

What will become of Arial? We know that eventually she will be displaced. Is there an interim location for her, ala Mickey and Minnie moving to Main Street?

I could be wrong, since I haven't read all 8 billion posts in the FL Board, but the renderings I last saw showed the RR station to be closer to the 2:00-3:00 position on the WDWRR dial.
Based on the most recent designs, the station will be in the same spot.
Moving it any farther south would put it too close to Barnstormer.

Someone from WDI mentioned on RADP that Barnstormer will actually have to be shifted slightly to make the overall expansion layout work, but it's a negligible 10-20 feet. I'd always kinda assumed they meant 20 feet north to give some more room to Dumbo, but I guess it could be 20 feet south...

Interesting. Not sure why they would go to that much trouble. Easier to tweek the plans.
Moving it south/southeast would put it awfully close to the Speedway, and put the squeeze on Pixie Hollow.
More free room to the northeast into that area where that path to TL is.

I'll take a close look at the plans when I get home to try to sort that out.

Exactly. There's no way they'd spend the money to move an actual coaster 10-20' just to accommodate a massive expansion like this. Lots cheaper to move stuff around on the drawings first.

Lee, can you send me a link to the current plans? I think all I have are the site plans that were "leaked" many months ago. Thanks!

From all the projects that I have seen and been involved with, there will many, many changes some and some major. There will always be revisions and changes. Designing is one thing but it gets in the construction phase, many things can and will change. Also, WDI always like to redesign things also after there almost built also, then if there are cost overruns like usual, then they eliminate things and think maybe it can added later or on the next phase, so I don't expect to look like the original design anyway.

Case In Point: Pirates in DL. It was originally to be a walk-thru wax museum. It was already under construction when Walt decided to enlarge it and turn it into a boat ride!

In 1960s it wasn't such a big deal. In today's world, that's a $50 million Change Order. MUCH cheaper to do it on paper first.

It seams like this might cut a lot into the Tomorrow land walkway which is fairly close to the raceway. Is there enough room to move the station to that location? This seams like a lot of work for a station that doesn’t really obstruct the current space that much anyway. Has there been any word to suggest that the Toontown station would be closed for a large portion of the expansion?

I don't think you need to worry about this. I think I've been vetoed on this topic, and that the station isn't moving (even though the original rendering showed it in quite a different location than it is now) :)

The station will have to be closed down because it will be in the middle of a construction zone.

I'm sure they will erect fences to hide it, (of course they could revert to using shuttle mode?) but I'm pretty sure you will not be able to depart from the train at the Toontown station during constuction.

There is plenty of room along the walkway to Tomorrowland to move the station. In fact there is a lot of wasted space there.
