Fantasmic Reopening Watch

I read a comment elsewhere online that I have to agree with. The hero segment is not a true medley, but 5 individual scenes that, in isolation are fine, but played back-to-back don't work as a whole.

There's nothing really trying them together and the transitions before and after this segment not as smooth. It's also mostly characters from the official Disney Princess line up (even Aladdin is a character directly linked to one), which means we now we effectively have two Princess scenes in a row.

Since when does a dream have to make sense?
When they're being viewed by five thousand conscious people who paid a lot to be entertained and not subjected to random, "Look at this. Now this. Now this. Now this. The end."

Otherwise, bring back Suddenly Colonialists, because dreams don't have to make sense.

???

The conceit of the show being a dream does not mean it can't have any kind of through line or cohesion as it already does in other parts.

Disney used to be the master of mixing and contrasting its various theme music. Now it just plays them in whatever order.

The same show still has the bubbles scene, which say what you want about its presentation, works musically when you hear it.

Here's a clip of the brand new choreography in the finale. All the characters on the boat stop and look up towards Mickey as the lyrics "Dreams are make believe, but they all come true!" play. Besides this, all the performers with ribbons (besides Ariel/Eric) spin once again as part of the refreshed choreography.

One of my new favorite moments in the show. All the characters that helped Mickey along his journey/dream are there for him.

And the rebuilt boat looks great!

Love the choreography on it now as well, so dynamic and energetic.

Also very interesting that they added lasers to project onto the mountain, but not projectors. I wonder if projections like Disneyland were in the plan, and got cut?

The lasers do add a nice element, although it feels like they should be enhancing projection mapping as opposed to… being the projection?
Yes I feel like especially during the Frozen segment there was supposed to be projections with ice

WDW also got one more thing, something that DL had before the actual projections with 2.0

They are like these special "projector" spotlights that produce shapes and spin in a circle. DL got these with their 1.5 update iirc. You can notice them a lot during the intro and in the finale.

I still feel like the projection mapping at DL needs some work. It just feels clunky during some parts, like the Aladdin sequence, Pirates, etc.

Right, while DHS did have the smarter moving lights before, which is employed in most theatres these days, it didn't seem like they were using or had the digital gobos.

So those moving "smart" lights can create gobos digitally, instead of having to insert a fabricated gobo, or a gobo slider.

Oh gosh, that would look incredible. I hope they don't wait too long and finish what they started. New fountains and projections during the next refurb.
Yes they should really add in projection mapping and in my option they should update the opening fantasia footage to the Disneyland 2.0 footage as well as the magic mirror and dragon footage.

I'm gonna be 100% real with you, I feel like the lighting system has been upgraded so much that projection mapping might not be necessary anymore. The lighting on the mountain is simplistic when it needs to be and colorful and vibrant when it needs to be.
