Fantasmic Reopening Watch

Disney will be too afraid to change anything for the next 40 years because of the reaction to Enchantment and Harmonious

be careful what you wish for, everyone...
That's why I'm nervous for these two new shows in the Magic Kingdom and Epcot. I doubt we're getting anything else new for awhile after those two 😬

It's infinitely better without the speed bump of Suddenly Colonialists.

As a nighttime spectacle, it's pretty good.

But, there are tweaks that could be made. Many above have made suggestions which would work.

I would say it should be more like HEA with a clearer story line. Without the Suddenly Colonialists, we don't have a clear reason why Mickey's nightmares are taking over (not that Suddenly Colonialists explained it anyway either).

The framing of Sorcerer's Apprentice wasn't used correctly. Imagine:
  • Big Mickey intro
  • Mickey says: "good night, pleasant dreams, everyone!"
  • Gentle Disney music with narrator spieling about the power of dreams... and nightmares
  • In his dreams Wizard Mickey appears directing fireworks and fountains
  • Mickey call upon the joy of friends (Disney pals section)
  • Mickey calls upon heroes (Disney heroes section)
  • Mickey gets wrapped up on the power of heroes and goes back to fountains and fireworks
  • Sorcerer's Apprentice Mickey gets in over his head and panics
  • This leads to the villains section nightmare
  • Mickey recalls the power of friends and heroes and stands up to Maleficent
  • Big celebration with Mickey and friends and heroes

I agree, but without a large scale re-record and reinvention of the show, this had no chance of changing. Although it looks much better, the fact that there was no changes at all to the actual show besides the part that people had disliked for years and years shows that they truly did a great job with the budget they were given. I am excited to see guest surveys for the next few months while Enchantment and Harmonious are running alongside this show.

and I'm sure Chapek and D'Amaro are ecstatic that the team spent only the minimum budget required! :D

I’ll keep HEA, thanks.

As for Epcot, it will be better than Harm and should look better than RoE. We will see about story…
I'm not sold on Epcot either, mainly because lack of info. Steve sounded excited for what Epcot is getting right after D23. But other places I've seen, it looks like the new Show is for Disney100??? That doesn't sound very Epcot/IllumiNations to me...........

I just don’t think they ever had to explain why the villains take over. It’s a dream. Ever had a dream suddenly turn into a nightmare? The intro literally tells us that evil forces invade Mickey’s dream.

I have not yet heard a solid concept for the show. Only that the daytime views will be much improved.

You know what they say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." And it wasn't broke except for the Pocahontas section which always felt disjointed. So that broke portion was fixed.

In that case, Wishes would never have been upgraded to HEA.

Maybe, but who forced that hand???? The fact that MK didn't bother to replace MSEP or Wishes' time was up?????
We all applaud upgrades, once they come, over the objections of those who never want any change.

Better fireworks show? Yay!
Better parade? Yay?

I read a comment elsewhere online that I have to agree with. The hero segment is not a true medley, but 5 individual scenes that, in isolation are fine, but played back-to-back don't work as a whole.

There's nothing really trying them together and the transitions before and after this segment not as smooth. It's also mostly characters from the official Disney Princess line up (even Aladdin is a character directly linked to one), which means we now we effectively have two Princess scenes in a row.

I don't hate the new scenes. It's not really better or worse than what was there before, but there was room for improvement.
