Take this with a grain of salt, as I read it on a Youtube comment, but the updated show seems to be getting negative reviews from those within the entertainment team who have seen it. The scenes supposedly don't mesh well, as they are directly copied from the TDS show, and there are still lots of technical issues with the mapping technology on the Columbia. The comment even goes as far as revealing that the show has been dubbed "FanTRASHmic".
It does leave me quite concerned.

I also find the apparent Columbia projection issues interesting to hear, as the new Pirates segment in the show has had no mention in any of the DPB posts yet.

Yeah I don't buy that.

Everyone who I've heard from has said it should be pretty great. And so far, none of the new scenes are in TDS's version except a lion king scene, and DHS also has a lion king scene... so...

Of course things change but,
GiveMeTheMusic didn't seem too worried about F! 2.0 being a total train wreak.

On DL's Canada site F! 2.0 plays 3 times a night the first week! 9:00, 10:30 &11:30PM

Back in the 1990's there were routinely three nightly showings of Fantasmic! in summer and at Christmas, at those times listed. Nice to see they are going to offer three shows per night again this summer.

It's also very helpful to notify people in advance of the third showing at 11:30pm, instead of adding it day-of in a panic when crowds go bigger than projected. People need to plan for a late night in the park, and know in advance that a third show is scheduled, in order to properly prepare to stay for that last show. Especially if you have kids.

Finally TDA acknowledges they just need to plan for three shows per night and be honest with their customers.

When I saw it on the Canada site this morning, it was only for the first week. Unless more is added now.

I hope the new Fantasmic is at least entertaining. I'm skeptical of it becoming as "beloved" by the public simply because the original was such a bizarre mix of nonsense, cheese and spectacle that somehow just *worked*. Whatever Fantasmic 1.0 was, it was the right mix at the right time, and had the added benefit of being something no one had ever seen the likes of before. Good luck to the new show. If it's not just a film clip promo reel like World of Color, it'll still be the best show at the resort.

AGAIN I WILL SAY that the Pirates segment is in the show. It was announced by Disney. It is a done deal. They cannot just switch back to Peter Pan. The new cast is not trained on the Peter Pan choreography. The soundtrack would need to be reinstated. New costumes and rehearsals would be needed. Show segments are not Legos that can be swapped out at whim.

I mean they are just replacing/adding scenes.. they aren't changing the structure that made Fantasmic work. All the key points will still exist.

i will wait till i see it before worrying about whether they ruined the show or not. One thing that i do hate is that all the shows are now starting to feel like we are watching the same thing.
Fantasmic worked well because it used Disney properties that are not used enough in Disney parks. Now we are hearing that they added Nemo, Alladin and Pirates. These three Disney properties have a huge presence in WOC already.

When WOC was being created we all got excited because they were also adding other properties that are rarely used in Disney entertainment then all of a sudden they cut out sequences that we all wanted to see like Alice. I wasn't even excited about them adding the chernabog because that character also plays a huge part in Fantasmic.
I know that Steve D doesn't like certain movies but at the time i was hoping that the chernabog sequence got eliminated and instead maybe even used characters like the Horned king. Now how cool would it had looked to see this huge Evil Horned king rise and then see his army rise from the waters of Paradise pier.

Lets hope that the addition of Nemo and Alladin doesn't turn out to be another rendition of the same songs and movie clips we see in every other show

I'm just saying Fantasmic 1.0 was a weird stew full of ingredients that ended up working better than anyone expected. This'll be an interesting experiment. *Was* Peter Pan that important to the overall effect? Will the other changes throw it off balance? I sounded more pessimistic in my post than I meant. Fantasmic does have to change--I'm amazed it kept its initial form as long as it did. I'm just wondering if it was a show of its time, and whether the emotional core can be transferred. I'm actually kinda fascinated to see what happens.

The Horned King would confuse most Disney vloggers.

I'm pretty much on the same page except for the Horned King as a major setpiece. As a cameo, yeah. Along with, oh, Herbie and Ichabod and... Y'know, if they turned just one segment of this thing into a Vault Disney montage, they'd have me there day one. :D

I've recently had the mindset that really questions why these changes were enacted in the first place? Fantasmic! as it was, simply worked. It's 25 year tenure proves that. Yes, technological advancements are always welcomed, and I understand the desire for change/updating, but content wise I do not see any significance as to why we needed scenes directly copied and pasted from TDS. What is the need to clone what's in an entirely different adaptation of the show? That in no way adds or enhances our storyline. The changes that are being brought to the show are simply done for the sake of there being an update. Which yes, if tastefully done to blend with the show and further develop it's themes and story, I would find no problem with. But as far as I'm concerned, and from what I've seen/heard, it doesn't necessarily seem to be the case.

If there is such a heavy need for updating, then I'd prefer something entirely different than Fantasmic!.

As far as I can tell Black Calderon is a film that Disney has no desire to add anywhere into the parks. Its from a time in the Animation Studios history that is considered a black mark by many internally.

Here is a write up on how it almost kill the Animation Studios:

Well, The Black Cauldron was featured in an amazing walkthrough of the Cinderella Castle at Tokyo Disneyland. I mean, like, really featured with a cool scary animatronic and audience participation. Judging from YouTube videos, it was certainly one of Disney's best attractions ever. So it made sense that it was removed.

Aaaaahh!!!

I'm sure this would go over great with all the babies and blogger moms in southern California.

Can you link to the video this quote is in? The posters comment history might help us know how credible he/she is.

The same could be said for the WDW version- which many consider to be DL Fantasmic's inferior (even before the '09 refresh DL got).
