Fake Animals on the Safari.

Amazing. It never crossed my mind that people would think the animals are fake. I'd have a heck of a time holding my tongue, if I were in your position.

I'll definitely listen for any comments like that in about, oh ... 17 days. :D

I never would have thought people thought this way either--until I started working here--and like I said... I hear it just about everyday.

The Crocodiles are one thing, because I'll only see them actually moving or swimming probably around 10% out of the day... The rest of the day they just lay there completely still, sometimes they really do look as though they could be fake, so I guess I can understand that one.

What I can't understand is when a giraffe crosses the road in front of me, stops to eat from the tree next to me, then walks along-side our truck for a little while and then to hear "Fake..." That's when I (and usually everyone sitting in hearing-range of that person) give that person a look that says "You cannot be serious."

Robotics and animatronics have come a long long way in recent years, but even with our current technology, I have never seen a robot move or look the way those real animals do.

Well Disney does, kind of, send out a mixed message.

People expect AA's at WDW.

Animal Kingdom bills itself as Nahtuzu, so some people conclude that since it's not a zoo, then the animals MUST be AA's.

It sounds like the OP's friend and the other people mentioned go to Disney DETERMINED not to be impressed...almost like it's a point of pride if they can get through a Disney vacation without going "wow." God Himself could probably split the clouds to tell them the animals are real and they'd yawn and say the park's PA system needed improving.

So I know you really, really can't do this, but don't you ever get tempted to tell those folks if they think the animals are fake, go ahead and touch it? :D

I know I shouldn't suggest such a thing and that was really bad, but ...

Yes, but technically, Little Red is "outside the preserve" so all of the animals INSIDE the preserve are real.

(That does not include the ostritch eggs and the baobob trees.)

Actually the eggs are real.....

The other Safari Guides will back me up on this one.

I work at Kilimanjaro Safaris, and this is my single biggest pet peeve at work.

I absolutely hate when I'm driving around and pointing out the animals and I hear from the row behind me "faaake."

You'd be suprised how many people (like your friend) think "just because it's Disney, it's all fake." I hear it at least once, sometimes several times a day.
I had one today say that the crocks were fake....until it snapped at a vulture in the river.

Where were you hiding today .... if you were off you missed an interesting day. :lookaroun

Those eggs will hatch one of these days, I know it... Haha.

Yeah I was off, plan to pick up a shift tomorrow though. PM me if I missed anything good today.

(Yes this is a repost but i know this is why they are real and how they can be real and life in peace)

the animals are real! they just dont kill one an other because they are seperated by huge ditches that disney dug so the cheetah cant eat the antalope and the lions cant eat the girrafes and at night they put them into their special houses in back of the park each one has a label like girrafe. and so on

HOPE THIS WILL HELP!!!!

i hope:wave: every animal is real but little red and the termite mounds and i think the ostrich eggs because they were just sitting there w/o mom or dad.

Whoever thinks the animals on the safari are fake needs to check their insurance because they need Lasik bad!

Although, psst, keep this a secret...the dinosaurs on the Dinosaur ride and the Universe of Energy ride are real. Shhh...don't tell though!

I'd say that if this dude has been on the safari ride and still can't tell the difference between real animals and fake ones, he really needs to have his eyes checked.

Elephants in jungle cruise: fake

Elephants in safari: real

And if he can't tell the difference, he either has major problems with his eyesight or his IQ.

I've heard on more than one occasion people thinking real animals were animitronics.

The gestation period for an ostrich is 42 days. So I'm assuming that these are real eggs, but with a not so live hatchling.

I agree that the animals are obviously real, however, one creature...a maribu stork has to be fake. It is early on in the safari on the left hand side of the ride up a dirt track. I have been on ride at least half a dozen times and it has never moved...If it is not fake it must be nailed to the floor. Has anyone else noticed this 'possible' fake bird !!!
