Failed my driving test this morning

I've always marveled at how drivers in the UK negotiate roundabouts. With the abilities of most US drivers, placing them here would be a recipe for major carnage. The last one I drove through, near the "Big E" grounds in Mass., was total chaos.

About two years ago my sister-in-law asked me to take her seventeen year old son out for one more practice session before his test the next day. He had already taken several weeks of lessons and felt he was ready. I couldn't figure out why his older sister had developed a nervous twitch until I got in the car with him. Not only did he blow off a stop sign and a red light, but he spent a good portion of the drive on the wrong side of the road. He took one turn so wide that we wound up hitting the curb on the opposite side of the street. When we got back to our house I quickly downed two glasses of wine before I could blink my eyes again.

He passed the test the next day with flying colors. If you're ever in Connecticut and see a white Pontiac Sunbird coming at you, pull of the road immediately and call your insurance agent.:lookaroun

I am sitting on pins & needles because my daughter just turned 15 and is studying for her permit. I told her that if she fails she has to wait a month to take it again. I hope she fails, I'm not ready for this.:ROFLOL:

Say a prayer for us, and we will say one for you. I am sure you will do great next time!

Roundabouts are not too bad but a double mini one is quite difficult to negotiate, atleast you have lots of nice straight roads.

Don't worry about it. I failed twice before i passed on my third attempt. I was really sick that day and i wasn't even concentrating on my driving and somehow i passed. The first two times i tried really hard and failed. I know how you feel tho, it's not a nice feeling when they tell you that you have failed. I cried both times! I was going to give up my lessons if i failed a third time it was costing me too much money. Since i've passed i've passed my test i've driven to France twice and in America too on my vacation.

Don't feel too bad...I not only failed my test the first time, but I got in a wreck as well!

I was making a left turn onto a one way, two lane street. There was another car coming from the other direction, but I judged him to be far enough away yet that I was clear to make my turn ahead of him. The examiner disagreed, telling me that I can't cut in front of him because he has the right of way. I was now in the right hand lane of the two way road, and he told me to turn left at the next road. I knew he had failed me and was taking me back to the motor vehicle office.

I was already flustered, and in my mind, for some reason, I thought that since he told me to turn left, he must have already checked and seen that the left lane was clear to turn. (I know, but I was a dumb 16 year old!)

I turned left, crossing into the left lane, without checking to make sure the lane was clear. Next thing I heard was "screech, crash"! It was one of my classmates on his way to football practice. And to make matters even more embarrassing, when the policeman was filling out the paperwork, a couple girls from my class came walking by and kept turning around to look at what was going on. And, as luck would have it, one of them was the girl I had the major hots for at the time. :brick::ROFLOL:

No wonder Americans are such bad drivers... our tests take 5-10 minutes and they've got them driving for hours in other countries.

If I recall correctly, I made a couple of turns at lights and stop signs, did a k-turn, parallel parked, and that was it.

First time failer here as well. It sounds like you'd be an expert driver here in the States based on what you did in your test. Good to see you kept a positive attitude.
