I've always marveled at how drivers in the UK negotiate roundabouts. With the abilities of most US drivers, placing them here would be a recipe for major carnage. The last one I drove through, near the "Big E" grounds in Mass., was total chaos.
About two years ago my sister-in-law asked me to take her seventeen year old son out for one more practice session before his test the next day. He had already taken several weeks of lessons and felt he was ready. I couldn't figure out why his older sister had developed a nervous twitch until I got in the car with him. Not only did he blow off a stop sign and a red light, but he spent a good portion of the drive on the wrong side of the road. He took one turn so wide that we wound up hitting the curb on the opposite side of the street. When we got back to our house I quickly downed two glasses of wine before I could blink my eyes again.
He passed the test the next day with flying colors. If you're ever in Connecticut and see a white Pontiac Sunbird coming at you, pull of the road immediately and call your insurance agent.:lookaroun
