Exploring other resorts

Have any of you ever eaten at a resort other than the one you are staying at, and then taken the opportunity to walk around the lobby, down the hallways, around the building, etc? Just exploring it while you are there? Or is that considered tacky? We are staying at POR and plan to eat at Chef Mickey's and, as of today, I am considering adding 1900 Park Fare to our list, at the Grand Floridian. I would like to explore the resorts a little while I am there and see what they are like inside. Is that allowed?

We do it too. Eating at other resorts is welcomed. Just make sure to stay out of the pool while you're there. Otherwise, I'd say resort exploring is looked highly upon. They promote the Boardwalk as a destination, as are the MK loop hotels.

We do it to get a feel of whether we'd ever like to stay there or not.

Havw fun!

We've done this more than once. We've just told the guard at the gate that we were wanting to check it out because we were considering staying there in a trip in the future... Which has always been the case.

We explore whenever we dine at another hotel. Its a lot of fun and has helped us decide which places we'd like to stay in the future as well as which ones we'd pass on for the price involved.

Feel free to dine at and explore any resort that strikes your fancy! Its actually encouraged. We usually end up doing a little shopping too (I collect magnets). Feel free to talk to the CM's and ask questions about the resort, they are always very helpful.

We started doing that when we went for our first December trip. We were not Passholders then, and spent the first evening going to the monorail hotels and Wilderness Lodge looking at the resorts and their Christmas decorations, instead of using a park hopper day at the parks for only a few hours. It was quite enjoyable.

Hey, I think that going to the resorts for dinner is a form of marketing for WDW. The really nice resorts have the really nice places to eat. You eat there, see the place, and think "I want to stay here next time!"

You upgrade, and voila... the marketing worked! :)

When we go to the boardwalk we always walk through the lobby of the yacht and beach club. But I would really enjoy dining at a different hotel, it's something that we haven't done yet.

I am pretty sure everyone has hit on the points: Of course look around! We fell in love with the Beach Club and have stayed there ever time we went. But because of dinning at another resort we saw we liked it too so our next trip in 25 days is split between the BC and WL

Have dinner at another resort and if you time it correctly, you can see some great firework shows with almost no crowd. GF and Poly are prime examples.

We once spent a full day visiting each Disney resort (except the All-Stars -- didn't have time). That was actually was pretty fun.

Other than room service, I don't think we've ever eaten at the resort we were staying at. It's more fun to "eat out."
