Epcot's Nightmare Christmas just wont go away

Disneyland Resort also only has 2 parks and 3 resorts to decorate and all of their guests are compacted in those areas. WDW has 4 parks and many, many more resorts where guests are spread out all over the property. But if you look inside most of the shops and restaurants in the parks you will find Holiday decor.

... Which means WDW gets income from 4 gates (plus two water parks), MANY more onsite hotels, tons more restaurants, higher guest spend, higher number of guests per day, extra charge "parties" DEDICATED to the holiday in question...

Which means they have a proportionately larger bucket of money to dip into to do it right like DL does.

The idea of WDW not decorating as well as DL because it's just physically larger doesn't hold with me. It's all proportional.

Exactly! I paid to go to those four parks. To say DW has more parks so they shouldn't decorate all of them fully, is ridiculous! If they don't plan on keeping the same standards in all of the parks then they shouldn't have expanded in the first place. Same goes for the hotels. People pay a premium to stay in those hotels they should be decorated. There is no excuse for this.

Bingo. I never understand the excuse "WDW has more parks and hotels, so they can't decorate as much as Disneyland".

No one ever says "WDW has a lot more hotels and more rooms to clean than Disneyland, so the WDW housekeepers can't change the beds every day."

And no one ever says "WDW has more trashcans than Disneyland, so they can't empty them regularly and they can't help it if they overflow a lot".

But somehow when it comes to Christmas decorations, or lack thereof, that excuse seems entirely plausible to people trying to excuse the lack of Christmas spirit at WDW.

Nah I don't buy it. If that was the intention, why isn't the good stuff still running? The only things left are the items that don't have any significant running expenses, and that do require a lot of resources to take them down.

In the old days the decorations would magically appear the day after thanksgiving, all in one go. They would all be removed within a day Around Jan 2.

The only reason they are up us that they don't have the resources to get them down, and it's bad show.

Wrong.....the reason outdoor Christmas decorations have not come down is the weather. Decorations come down at night and it has been freezing. You sound like you live here so you should know most people who live in Florida are not prepared for freezing temps. Shoot most of us don't even own a real pair of socks-just sport socks that don't show etc. LOL Most employees don't have winter coats heavy enough for these temps we are having so they are waiting till temps warm up a little. They also don't want to damage the decorations. Taking down wet, frozen decorations and trying to store them for next year would only result in moldy, broken decorations.

Really? bad show? Give em a break.

Gosh maybe if you are that disappointed in the Disney Christmas decorations it is time to find a different place to vacation. Technically they don't have to decorate at all for Christmas. You aren't being charged to see the decorations they put up in the parks it is free icing on the cake with admission. Christmas decorations in the hotels are also free, you are paying for the room and bed during a prime vacation time.

I do have to say I would love to see Splash Mountain Decorated. This is really well done.

It's not just Splash Mountain, as they decorate all of Critter Country for Christmas in a funny backwoods theme, like the critters decorated, with Tigger working on the lights.

It's a different and more whimsical look than how they decorate Frontierland for Christmas, as Frontierland get's a more literal human-decorated rustic theme for Christmas.

I do live here, and I know that Disney have been working overnight as usual. They had no problems at all doing the prep for the marathon, including staging the actual even during the absolute worst of it.

Disney are equipped for all weather (and yes, that includes cold weather gear), and a little bit of cold weather isn't going to affect what they do - assuming they want to do it that is.

As previously stated by WDW1974, the scheduling would have been done for this long before the weather conditions became apparent.

Thanks for tellling me I'm "wrong", but I don't buy your weather story in the slightest.

That's a bit of a stretch. If the parks or resorts didn't decorate do you think people would pay to go and stay at the resorts? I don't think so, they would go elsewhere. As can be seen from the Lights of Winter, guests take the decorations very seriously (and rightly so, the precident has been set by Disney themselves).

I think your right next Christmas season I think I'll go to Dineyland instead or maybe Disneyland Paris, maybe even Tokyo. If Disney World wants to stay a premium product and charge a premium price they need to decorate around the holidays.

I understand that Christmas is over and that its time for the decorations to go! But shouldn't we be more concerned about the attractions at the parks and if they are running smoothly and such?? I mean YES the decorations should go, but to be honest they are really not that important. The quality of the rides are the most important. WDW will take down their decorations when they are ready. Just enjoy the parks anyway. I mean the decorations cannot be seriously ruining anyone's trip experiences. As much time as you worry about the lights being taken down, you won't fully enjoy your experience due to worrying...so just enjoy it! :)

...that I'm following through on it! We're heading to Orlando in February for a long weekend and we won't step foot on Disney property for the first time EVER! Instead we'll be going to Universal as it offers a much more economical option with their $99 ticket for both parks for seven days. So we're off to try something new and couldn't be more excited.

I couldn't agree more - don't complain, vote with your dollars and find somewhere else to go!

That $99.00 ticket just increased to $169.99!

Oh. c'mon, TP. Why those excuses make perfect sense ... after you've had 11 drinks!

Hey, leave the Christmas Spirit out of it! I can assure you he was there, and wasn't lacking in any jolly, in early/mid December!!!:xmas::xmas::xmas:

Hey, management apologist, guess what? You're wrong!

First off, weather had NOTHING to do with it.

Second, you must have missed all the CMs wearing WINTER coats, scarves, gloves etc? Costuming has plenty.

And damaging the decorations? Really? ... Oh, I'm just gonna let it alone and not even take the shot. Consider it my Christmas gift!:xmas:

So why would the weather preclude Disney from removing Christmas merch from the stores? Does horticulture also stock the shelves?

And does the weather interfere with changing the music loops, as well?

It's not like there are any holidays approaching that they are missing. So why the freakout? Plus it actually FEELS like Christmas- and it never usually does.

And I can vouche for the poster who said Floridians aren't very prepared for freezing temps. :)

The nightmare known as Epcot Christmas 2009 just wont go away. It's January 9 2010, and Epcot is still limping along in it's Christmas mode. The tree is there, the music is playing. I would have thought that after the holidays were so badly received at Epcot, they would want it gone as quickly as possible - obviously not.

The same is true at Magic Kingdom, everything is still up, and I understand it will be until the 14th.

None of the guests are intersted in the docorations now, Christmas is over. It's quite interesting to see how their reaction is different. Before and during Christmas, everyone wants their photo with the tree. Now, they just walk on by, wondering why the heck it's still Christmas at WDW when it's long over.

Of course, all the good stuff is gone. Things guests would want to see. Such as Peace on Earth, Candlelight, and the Osborne Lights.

Have Disney laid off a good chunk of Holiday services? I know they arent leaving them up as a service for the guests, it's because they don't have the resources to get them all taken down quickly.

By the end of the month it should be gone. Next year they will probably make it better.

It's fascinating how Disneyland decks out every land (except Tomorrowland, oddly) in themed Christmas decor, while Magic Kingdom just focuses on Main Street USA and the Castle.

And on and on and on. There really seems to be an opportunity for Magic Kingdom to kick it up a notch. Or three.

I DONT BUY the 4 parks VS one, I remember when it was ONLY MK & 3 resorts, barely nothing past main street was done waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back then either.:fork:

It isn't "after the fact" at all. Please with the xenophobia. :lookaroun

Isn't World Showcase about learning of other cultures and traditions? Quite frankly I'm shocked by the intolerance.

There's exactly one culture in the world that likes to leave decidedly WESTERN - style Christmas decorations up past mid-January, and that's the low-class cheap culture. Like the people in my town who have garbage and dirty little tykes playground toys littering their front lawn.

Your excuses are just that: excuses. Weak-sauce excuses feebly masquerading as some kind of holier-than-thou iteration of tolerance...perhaps the biggest load of you-know-what I've read on this forum in a very long time.

Disney: bad show. I know it's the south, but take the decorations down already. The club-you-in-the-skull-holiday-overload approach was bad enough when Christmas was a month ahead of us, instead of behind us.

JT: I'm sure the ladder in the finale show scene of Journey Into Imagination was just Disney paying tribute to the contractor industry's diverse culture, right?
