Epcot Dining

This may seem like a stupid question, but I am trying to sort out my Dining plans for a forthcoming trip. On one of days we plan to spend outside of the parks ie visiting DTD, exploring other resorts, etc...but if I want to eat at Epcot will we have to use up a days admission or can we just visit to eat. I know people wll say eat at one of the resorts, but was jut wondering?

You'll have to use a day's admission to get into Epcot, so you might want to plan to eat elsewhere. DTD has some good places.

Admission is required whether your are going to ride, sleep, swim, or EAT or anything else inside Epcot. Why not eat there the day you visit Epcot? Assuming you were going to visit Epcot. Many of the Hotels you may visiting that day have excellent restaurants.... Boma at AKL or Whispering Canyon or Artist Point at WL are just some. :wave:

as long as we're answering dining questions.....

What do you all think about needing (or not needing) ADR's for lunch for table meals. Do they even take lunch reservations?

My brother and I will be going during the big "free dining plan" time and thought that maybe we would do a couple of our table meals at lunch time to avoid dinner crowds.

Yes, you would have to use a ticket to get into the park.
If you would like to eat somewhere near Epcot, there is always Cape May Cafe' or Beaches & Cream at the Beach Club Resort.
We are planning to eat at both in Sept.
Also, the Boardwalk Resort is near Epcot.
We are also planning to take an evening to stroll around the resort, visit the shops & see the performers.

It will require a day's admission, but depending on how many days you bought on your MYW it may be worth it. Last time, I bought a 7 day rather than a 6 day ticket because it cost $3-$5 more. Well woth it, even if I only spent a couple of hours at Epcot and had dinner there.

If you haven't already called, you'll likely have a hard time getting in for ADRs in most of the restaurants in the parks and may have to be very flexible on times at resorts during free dining. Most every available seat was booked within weeks of free dining being announced and now it's mostly openings from cancellations that come up. Nothing is impossible with perseverance and some good timing, but you'll probably have to call a few times...

If you are visiting during free dining, you have to have ADR's. We tried walking up to a couple last summer: Sci-Fi, Tony's, Mama Melrose, all at lunchtime and could not get in. This was the first day of free dining and the last full day of our vacation.

Sorry slightly off topic.... but when does the wonderful FREE dining start? I hope I am outta dodge before the Mobs arrive!!!!

Free Dinning starts on 8/26 this year...

I have a quick question though... directed to anyone and related to the thread:
How is it... that this could "eat up a days ticket?" Now... obviously I'm aware that you need park admission for any/every square inch of these parks... but with the MYW tickets... if you have an 7-day ticket, it expires exactly 7 days after first use, right? As in... unless the OP was talking about their arrival day or have a no expiration option, no matter what you lose that day? Am I making sense?

Example with 7-day ticket:
9/8: Epcot (day 1 pass)
9/9: MK (day 2 pass)
9/10: MGM (day 3 pass)
9/11: No Park (still day 4 pass??)
9/12: AK (day 5 pass)
9/13: TL (day 6 pass)
9/14: Epcot (day 7 pass)
9/15: Departure

Ok so as you can see with my actual itinary, we would still be "charged" a day, even if we don't set foot in a park right? It's not like we could use that "day 4 pass" for 9/15 unless we had a no expiration option right?

We booked our trip to WDW for Labor Day weekend (during Free Dining) last week. I made it very clear to Dining that we are NOT on the dining plan. Anyhoo, I wasn't able to get anything at Le Cellier for Labor Day weekend, but there were plenty of spots available at San Angel Inn and Mama Melrose for lunch. :shrug:

I believe that unless you get the no expiration option, that your park tickets expire 14 days after first use. So that you could take a two week vacation and not go to the park everyday, but still use the seven days.

Does that make sense? You could get a 4 day park hopper and use it four times on your 7 day trip, but it doesn't have to be in the first four days just because it is a four day ticket. I think they all expire in 14 days.

Ah ok... that makes sense! For some reason I thought it expired in the amount of days your ticket was good for... as in 7-day ticket, expires in 7-days. Thanks for the help :wave:

Yep. Standard multi-day MYW tickets expire 14 days after first use regardless of how many days your purchase.
