I’d say Splash, the demo of Horizons, Imagination, and gutting the great movie ride are all contenders

I'd honestly put the loss of the Living Seas up there too, although it was more of a slow, gradual decline than something they just shut down like the others. That pavilion, as an overall experience from entrance on, was one of Imagineering's masterpieces.

I remember waiting over 2 hours for Rocket Rods... The queue too all of the Mission To Mars show building then down into a pit and up a staircase in the middle of the old Star Jets platform to the load area... It was a miserable line... The ride was plagued by brakes but somehow over in like 30 seconds and you were walking down the stairs again wondering what just happened... Evidently there were huge show scenes planned that were all cut along with the banked track that would have removed most of the brake runs.... Seems like if they REALLY wanted to they could figure out a way to bring back the people mover...Though I imagine if they did they would shorten the path a great deal...

I did not want to see Horizon go, but at least we got Mission space in place of it and they even enhanced Mission Space to have two missions and also added Space 220

The worst is when they close an attraction and we never get one back in some form, like the Life Pavilion and Stitch.

Mission Space is dreadful. Can't do it. Orange mission is the only attraction I haven't done.

You haven't done it but it's dreadful? I rode it six times last trip and fear this unique gem will be taken away.
It is unique and very well done, it just feels a little out of place for Epcot. Epcot’s all about ‘future idealism’ and a realistic space simulator while good for what it is just doesn’t seem to fit for me. I’d rather have it inside the old stitch building at MK

I agree Mission Space is a non IP, very EPCOTy gem.

The good news is, they cant spend the money to change Mission space and they cant just close it and walk away like they did the Life pavilion.

Yeah, I’m all for thrill rides but Orange mission is more of an endurance test than an enjoyable thrill. If I want a thrill I want to be breezing through the air with my hands up, not crammed into some plastic box trying not to puke everywhere
I take it you have an exterme reaction to these as well:

Mission Space exactly fits what EPCOT always was to me.

Now that they are changing what EPCOT is (I am not sure what it is) , you may have a case.

I actually love those things, I just need wind and fresh air or else I go green. I usually have an iron stomach but mission space and forbidden journey rock me to the core. Anything else I can do no problem though

If we must use IP, I wonder why they don’t just make a Lion King dark ride. It’s still an extremely popular IP for the company with another film incoming and it is actually about animals doing animal things. FotLK doesn’t really tell the story so they’d complement each other well.

And Bob approved the remake and new prequel so it’d be a win for him!

Aren't they supposedly doing this in Paris?

If so, it'll probably end up at WDW eventually.

Rocket Rods could possibly be the worst mistake in Disney theme park history? No only was Rocket rods a bad attraction, Rocket rods destroyed the people mover track such that the could not even bring back the people mover if they wanted. Very bad.

for Disneyland maybe, for us I would have to say the gutting of JII, or maybe the loss of toad...heck at this point I would say the change of Splash tops all of that.

Most of the mistakes in WDW have been EPCOT in my opinion. All of this is a matter of opinion, but there will be plenty of singular attraction "swaps" that would get considered. Off the top of my head:
  • Horizons into Mission: SPACE - As much as it pains me to admit, the intentions were good here. They just missed the mark on Mission: SPACE. This was more of a Monday morning quarterback situation, but at the time I believe the masses were excited about this. Mission: SPACE needs an update, but at least it's thematically relevant to the park.
  • Imagination iterations - The initial removal of Figment was a bad decision. Over the years I've come to realize that the attempts to bring him back aren't as bad as they seem. My issue is the pretense of the ride. The tour of the Imagination institute isn't a particularly good story, but if you look at the ride from the "if you can't beat them, join them" point, it's actually pretty well done. That being said, it needed to be updated 10 years ago.
  • Maelstrom to Frozen Ever After - I've been quoted as saying that Maelstrom to Frozen Ever After is the worst decision they've made because it hurt the theme of World Showcase and did a disservice to the Frozen franchise. Maelstrom wasn't anything sacred, but both World Showcase and Norway deserved more than the shoehorn treatment.
  • Reflections of Earth removal - They were looking for something "fresh". They were looking for something to help sell the festival pavilion. They didn't build the festival pavilion and they've clearly missed the mark on the replacements. Luminous isn't a bad show, but it's safe and I'd be surprised if it's around 5 years from now. Reflections of Earth needed updates, it didn't need a replacement. For me, this was the final nail in the coffin for EPCOT.
Non EPCOT division:
  • Great Movie Ride to Runaway Railway - I was done with GMR, but from a capacity standpoint, the park would be far better off with both an updated GMR and Runaway Railway in the Animation Courtyard area.
  • Splash to Tiana's - TBD here. I'm cautiously optimistic
  • Toad to Winnie the Pooh - I really think this is a personal preference question. Us old people loved Mr Toad and I relish every ride on it out in Disneyland, but admittedly I don't ride it every day I'm out there, just once or twice per trip.
