The current 7th Highest Grossing Film of All Time, Spider-Man: No Way Home, came out three weeks after Encanto, so while 2021 was certainly an odd year for film going, when people really wanted to go... they went.

I meant my post to be a lightly humorous point about how there can sometimes be a disconnect between what feels like a hit or failure and their actual box office performance. And now if feels like I accidentally provided fuel for some posters that lean a little uh... Song of The South-y.

The Watchmen was fantastic! Lovecraft Country was definitely uneven, but the book isn't that great either. I will say that Turning Red was one of Pixar's best in recent years. As for Encanto, the music is catchy but the lyrics are pretty bad and the movie's plot is a bit clunky. The main character is the reason why the movie is watchable for me, but nowhere near a Moana or Tangled in terms of recent Disney animated films.

Spider-Man was so obviously the exception to this rule. Please stop trying to spin this false narrative that Encanto is a flop when in every metric aside from box office it was a massive success. You don't have to like it but to try to make these convoluted arguments that it was a flop is just weird.

The Watchmen was the illusion of fantastic. I have never seen a promising show fall so completely apart by the end since... Lost.
None of the problems were with diversity. They all fall onto Damon Lindelof who I am consistently shocked still finds work.

I'd throw in Wanda/Vision and Game of Thrones. Luckily, I avoided Lost until after the ending, so I just skipped it all together.
