Eminem's Slander...

I find Eminem and most Rappers repulsive. These geniuses have found ways to tap into the vulnerability of the younger generation and have made themselves millionaires while taking advantage of the system they profess to loathe.

Apparently, this so-called artistic envelope has been pushed from the censorship of Elvis' gyrating hips on the Ed Sullivan show to rappers grabbing their crotches and advocating criminal activity in their incomprehensible lyrics.....we applaud the killing of cops, raping and degradation of women as artistic license. This is OK with people? This is especially OK with women? Where's the outrage? There is none, and that's what troubles me the most.

This is even worse than the British Invasion:lol:.....Those were the days, my friends.

So true my friend. I'm only 21 and would much rather listen to oldies or classic rock than 99.9999991% of today's music.

...and the record companies wonder why their sales have gone down.

It's not MP3's that have done it.

It is the poor quality of the product..

I have to admit that I don't follow modern music whatsoever...but if one were to scan the cable channels for MTV, MTV2, VH1 etc etc, there seems to be little alternative to this junk...it's everywhere and it seems to be hanging on longer than any modern day musical style and, as a result, is having a deleterious effect on our kids at an age when they are so impressionable.

I know I must sound like a judgemental old fool but my extended years gives me the benefit of seeing where things have come from and where things are heading.

Do any of ya'll really care what he says or does? Is he hurting you in any way? No, of course not, you don't know him and never will. I never will either, of course.

I like him for his music, and because I think he's a good father, nothing else. I think it's comical that he says what he thinks, all other music/movie stars won't say anything so as to not ruin their reputations. Eminem could just care less what people think and thats what is great about him. I personally wouldn't say the things that he says about his Mother to/about my Mom.

He doesn't hurt anyone in any way, all of my friends who listen to his music, do not take it seriously, we just think he is one of the very few rappers that have any talent.

LOL:lol: ...my 11 year old daughter keeps asking me if "Love Potion #9" was the ONLY song they made when I was young....of course, she's only kidding but she LOVES the oldies and she's beginning to learn the lyrics to a lot of the great songs...we sing them on the way to and from school everyday.

Yep, this is called BRAINWASHING...
....much like what is happening on MTV but with no multi-million dollar sponsors.

The reason most of us don't like him is because of the lyrics and his message. Nothing else. While he doesn't care what people think about him, he doesn't care about the message he is sending to his audience.

I don't listen to a lot of Em's stuff. But I have to admit that one thing I have noticed is that in certain sick, hate-filled, 'deleterious' way he actually has a great social commentary on things that are going on in everyday life. There are a lot of kids out there who, unfortunately, do NOT have parents that care about them. These kids find Eminem and can relate to what he says. That is the biggest problem. It's the people who can and just just as disturbed as Em is that are seriously buying into his music. JuniorToT, I am not directing this to you or anybody else on the boards, but I know that people like that do exist and the problem comes not in the fact that Eminem talks about it, but in the fact that his 'solutions' for the problems are not the best in the world...

Look at Stan.

Hmm, well I see a lot of kids with bleached hair but of course there is no connection there… About a month or so ago I honked my horn at some kid who cut me off to dodge through traffic only to see them get out of their car at the light and come start yelling at me because I had the nerve to honk at him. The light changed, I changed lanes and left him walking back to his car. While I am not trying to say that there was a direct correlation between this and the music that you and your friends are not influenced by, this is the sort of solution that Eminem would offer… Actually, one of his songs suggests murder. “Don’t $#$# with Slim Shady because Shady will #$#$@’n KILL YOU”

As a matter of fact, didn’t he write a “song” about people being just like him and didn’t he have a feature on the MTV Video Awards where they had around a hundred or so extras who’s only purpose was to walk in and pretend they were bad-$#$s and stand there?

You think he is a good father? Part of being a good parent is being a role model. Is he what you think children should grow up to be? Should his daughter listen to his music for a better understanding of her role in life as a female?

As far as him not caring what people think about him I would venture to say you couldn’t be farther from the truth because when the day comes that nobody thinks much of anything about him at all and people stop buying his music and the money stops coming in, he is not going to be happy at all, is he? He says “you don’t like it? Sue me!” That’s all well and fine while he still has money. Not being a loud mouth little punk would hurt his reputation, in case you haven’t figured that one out yet.

I actually know a real life person who doesn’t care what anybody thinks about him. He’s 20, hasn’t had a job since the age of 16, lives off his mother who is on social security and has a nice little drug addiction. He lost his job at Taco Bell at the age of 16 because the manager sent him to mop up the bathroom so he walked out because they somehow disrespected him by telling him to go do it. This is the kind of mentality that Eminem caters to. He may not be the one that causes it but when you are an already disturbed teen that somehow thinks the world owes you something and he comes along telling you that you’re right, that’s not a good thing.

Ideas can be very dangerous...
His fans are too young.

The sad thing is that the young fans are the ones he is trying to appeal to. Anyone who has gone through 3 or 4 of these bozos in their lifetime knows that they will fizzle out with time, because each time they release a new CD or get interviewed the shock value becomes less and less, or they have to push the envelope where even the most forgiving person will say "Ok...that's enough"

I have a problem with the degregation of women in general in today's music. There is very little (if any) skill in most of this crap floating around on the radio these days....Eminem is just the beginning and the start of a whole bigger conversation.

Eminem thinks he's a big man because he has his money and 15 huge bodyguards to protect him. He's smart to know he can say whatever he wants whenever he wants to get his headlines. The more trouble he causes, the more free publicity he gets, and the more the "rebellious" youth of today's America loves him.

Is Eminem talented? Yes. I don't like rap at all, and I have respect for the way he can make a tune flow. However, he takes that talent and parlays it with a masochistic attitude toward the world in general. I used to work at a record store and the only people buying his records were kids. Often time they would bring their parents in to buy it for them. I would not hesitate to step in and warn the parents about the strong lyrical content of the disc.

Sad thing is that most parents have such a strong belief that their children know to listen to music that's better than this, that they trusted this was a run of the mill artist.

I'm not alone in saying that this discussion makes me feel old. Mainly because I'm one of many that's been through this before, and knows he won't last forever, because he's a fad that will fade with time. Hell....even Vanilla Ice was popular once. I'm betting most of Eminem's fans are too young to remember those days. We're not out of touch...we're simply a little more in tune with reality than most of the younger generation.

At some point we all grow up and our tastes mature as we grow older and wiser. You start to realize that there is more to life than running around reciting lyrics about beating your wife and killing people.

Some day we'll look back on these rap lyrics and call anyone who listened to them idiots. This is NOT music that will stand the test of time.

I'm very close minded about this subject, so before you start up with an argument about why "It's getting hot in here - so take off all your clothes" is the greatest thing ever, remember that it takes a smarter man (and artist) to say something INDIRECTLY, than to be in your face.

Anyone can be a jackass....just look at me :)

Mr P gave me a link to one of "ENEMA's" songs called "Kill You."

I listened to about 30 seconds of that vile bull$hit and can't help but wonder why these friggin morons can't be charged with "contributing to the corruption of minors." Oh, I forgot, this is protected speech.

This is way beyond 'free speech' or 'taste'....if his songs were magazines, they'd be located behind the counter in a dark room.

Actually no they wouldn', magazines with cussing are right out there with the rest...

Kill You is a song he sings towards his Mother who was a doper and alchoholic, so I have no problem with the song.

I donno, I like him. There are some songs, ("Drips" off his latest CD, for one) that I really don't like...But I just skip those. I actually find his music to be kinda funny, sometimes. Other times it's just nasty/wrong/disturbing/whatever. I don't really care either way.

Oh, so because it was towards his mom who had a drug problem it’s ok. I see. When you put it that way, it seems perfectly fine to talk about killing somebody...

Apparently you and I live in two different worlds so you’ll have to explain this to me a little further. It’s ok to kill your drug addicted mother. Is it ok to kill the teacher that was always mean to you? What about the boss that didn’t like you? How about the sales person that ripped you off? Maybe you could compile a short list of who it’s ok to kill in your world for me so I’ll have it straight… Is it ok to kill someone you have a disagreement with where you come from? Should I be worried?
