Earth Barge back in show @ ROE

Illuminations has always been a favorite show of mine - in ANY incarnation.

While the LED screen is a fresh, FANTASTIC upgrade to the show, the improvement still does nothing to help the WHITE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM - that huge painful LULL while the barge makes it long, slow trip from shore to the center of the lagoon.

Now that the globe will be a "prettier" highlight of the show, they need to re-work its entrance -- and perhaps even just have it at center stage at the start of the show. They can certainly come up with something else to fill the old "travel time" in the show. That whole section always sucks the life out of the show for first-timers.

That's the beauty of this production - it can constantly grow and change to fit the times.

VIVA ILLUMINATIONS!!!!

Well, the LED screen certainly appears much better, that much I can cheer for. :sohappy:

However, that's about it. The timings on some of (actually, a lot of) the pyro are still off, the 200+ strobes on the globe didn't appear to work (maybe they just got rid of that effect. Not that big of a deal either way), and the three search beams still aren't visible as the globe opens (again, not that big of a deal, but it was a neat effect when it worked).

But most importantly, after a 2-3 week refurb, the torch still lights up too late! That thing should light as the final chorus of "We Go On" dies off. ("With each rising sun, to a new day, we, go on!" *torch lights*). It should not light at the same time the pyro shoots out. While the updates to the screen are nice, for goodness sakes, get that torch working properly and lighting on cue!!!!! :fork:

Yeah...I love when that works too...Very nice effect.I havn't seen it since 2000.:(

The Earth Globe isn't finished yet. Just the LED's , there are other lighting and other issues they are still working on. The new strobes still have to be installed. Originally, it was scheduled to be out longer to fix most everything, but it turned into a rush job just to get it back in show because they were running on low for pyro for the replacement show.

Good news!So will they be working on it at night/when it's by the AA and using the Barge in the shows?Or is another refurb coming up?

The genius of the Earth Barge goes back to the old IllumiNations show. The amazing thing with RoE for those that had seen the old show was the very fact that the Earth Barge actually moved! Before it was static in the center. The very fact that this thing suddenly started moving across the entire lagoon, in the dark, and docked at it's base, whilst showing images on the worlds first curved LED 360 display, and then opened up, and then blew fireworks out of the top - well that whole thing was amazing. What makes it even better, is it actually tells a story! You are seeing the earth travelling through space.

I know a lot of people find it a dead spot, and thats a shame. Each to their own I guess.

It still is absolutely amazing. While it was something different to see the show without the barge a few weeks ago, it was sorely missed. I still remember when I first saw it and thought just how amazing and creative Disney is.

I agree - the earth travelling through space can be a bit, well, slow compared to Chaos. Once the lasers die as man kills his first animal all that is left to supplement it are the fountains. I`d love a sympathetic laser program to fill the gap (and brighter lasers that arn`t smoke dependant...grrr...) but it does tell the story well. For those that understand the story that is, a fundemental issue I guess with promotional blurb and the physical limitations of the globe.

Back to the work, it`s good to hear just like SSE the lighting effects are still being plussed :D

Regarding the torch lighting, I`ve noticed when the gas igniter fails for whatever reason the gas is instead lit by the white comet bursts instead, as it would be. Hopefully as hpyhnt says it isn`t a major problem. I`d be more worried about the red lava maroons STILL igniting late and overlapping the second act of Chaos. And the twin aerial bursts in Adventure instead of triples. And the sync of the aerials during Celebration. And the sync of the We Go On starburts with the final high level perimeters. And the duel end barrage instead of one......

Or is it just me?

No, its not just you. :D To be fair, the triplets in Adventure-the pause in the music is what, half a second at most? So the timing on the second and third pyro bursts, if you want them in synch with the music, will almost always overlap to some degree. I'm not saying its great right now, but there are other timing issues that are much worse than those, like in Home, Celebration, just ater the pavilions light up and just before Adventure, and the final barrage at the end. And BTW, those red things in Chaos, if they're the ones I think you mean, aren't even there anymore. :(

Say you are sitting alongside of the runway at an airport. You watch a plane get on final and make its way down to the earth. At first, it seems as if the plane is barely moving (especially if it is of larger size). As it gets closer and closer, you realize that it is moving pretty quickly until it finally passes you. Then you get the full idea of the actual speed because it is close to you.

Same with the barge. It appears to move faster because the camera was zoomed in. What also gives the appearance of it moving faster are the rigid edges rather than the fuzziness that was seen on video with the old globe.

They were there in July too - the multiple floating `flare` pinspots of light that fire off the barges into the water far later than they should. Officially it`s `lava` but hey... :D

Back to the 3 separate items in Celebration - the 2 angled bursts from the barges followed by the aerial burst which match the syncrolight colours - used to be in perfect sync to the music. Now it`s one, then two and three at the same time.

Yeah - me too.

You know, watching the hi res video (thanks Steve) made me realise how intricate and resiliant the lighting system is inside the globe. The petal-mounted spots that light the interior (colour changing LED fixtures?) that go from blue for the ocean to yellow for Celebration to red at the end of We Go On, the yellow uplighting fixtures, the (not working yet) sky spots that look awesome as the petals open in smoke, plus the not working yet strobes.

It`s a wonder the thing works at all!

True! I can't believe that when someone came up with the idea for the thing, they said, "Yeah, we can build a rotating spherical steel structure with an LED screen that opens up, reveals a torch and shoots off a couple rounds of pyro." :lookaroun

Anyway, here's some video that was taken about a week after the globe went under. Those lava things are launched, you can hear them crackle, even see them ignite, and then...nothing. And Martin, I think some of the other timings in this video will make you're blood boil. They are pretty bad. :lookaroun

Wait a minute there is a scene where Man kills his first animal? Is that something to be proud of?:lookaroun
By the way I think they shoud create a completeley new pyro sequence during celebration and maybe update some of the video a bit.
