Dumbo & Main Street Updates

It's adorable that you're asking me construction questions, but if I had to guess I'd say since it's so narrow in that area they don't have much room to stabilize it with wood beams on the bottom, so they do that on the top?

Good guess. This picture posted by @Rich T earlier in the thread shows that the 2 x4s connecting the tops of the parallel walls allow them to have a much narrower footprint of sandbagged bracing at the base than independently standing construction walls require.

10 construction hat points granted. ;)

It might be time to break out my construction hat again. ;)

Did anyone notice they took the hedge behind Dumbo down? I wonder what they ll replace it with. I can’t imagine that’s something you can move and put back.

:((((((((((((((((((( Any images? I was hoping they'd put the covered queues on either side or a flat shade structure across it so that you could still see the symmetrical pyramid hedge. SAAAAAAAAAAAD.

It has to come back. That is the entire back splash of the original fantasyland footprint.

I’m really hoping that hedge or one like it makes a comeback. It really Frames that area nicely. I don’t have a picture but noticed last weekend that I could see way further into Storybookland behind Dumbo and then realized why. To be honest I didn’t think that hedge would be effected by this project at all. I thought all the major changes were happening between the current Q and Monstro.

I wonder if it’s even possible to replant the old one. Or maybe they have been growing a new one in preparation of this change?

Pretty soon, the only trees left will be on the Jungle Cruise.

I know. What do you think they replace it with? Does it or a new hedge make a comeback? Surely, they re not just removing it right?
This permit was filed a couple weeks back:

BLD2018-00444 Plumbing to support tenant improvement at Disney - Dumbo The Flying Elephant Queue Enhancement. REF: BLD2017-05360

Because it's a plumbing permit, I speculated that maybe drinking fountains or misters would go in, but maybe it's irrigation for new landscaping.

I hope it’s irrigation for new landscaping. If not, they should remove the word “enhancement.”

That's part of the project name:

Disney - Dumbo The Flying Elephant Queue Enhancement - Tenant Improvement: Redesign queue to provide accessibility/flow. 2,094 sq.ft. to construct (8) new steel structures with fabric canopy over queue with electrical lighting inside of shade structures. 4ft. by 103 ln.ft. Retaining wall with synthetic wood fence (over 80 ln.ft. only). 27 ft high by 40 ln.ft. Synthetic wood fence behind existing show structure. Relocate (3) light poles. Footings for future marquee.

To me it sounds like the landscaping is gone.
:( But what do I know?

What I hope for at the hub at DL is they trim/replace the trees around Sleeping Beauty Castle so that it doesn't ruin what forces perspective there was.
I don’t see the hub trees being the issue with the force perspective, but more so the trees by the Fantasyland Theater. They act as the castle’s backdrop, making it look a lot smaller.

There is one olive tree in particular that from the east side of the hub completely blocks views of the castle.
