Star Wars will be back in December to crush cynical tropes.

The franchise does need a bit of course correcting and is getting that. This will always be the case for all versions of this new era of cinema.

Being second in earning potential at this point in cinema history is the envy of every other studio not named Marvel.

It will be first again. Bookmark my words.

PS- Endgame will likely finish second to Star Wars Episode 7 all time domestic without even factoring inflation. JJ remains the champ. In my opinion. We will know for sure in a few days.

Deal with it. 😊
Why limit to only domestic? So Star Wars wins? There’s a whole world out there dude.

The reason why TFA did so great domestically was all the pent up demand and nostalgia based marketing. It was also pretty enjoyable and gave us a lot of interesting questions to answer but then we all know what happened next.

Should I bookmark right next to "Hiatus will only be 18 months, maybe 2 years max."

I am surprised but thought it possible. (Hence the "maybe") This is related to the Avatar schedule too which I'm sure nobody factored.

I also think this means more SW content for Disney+ in the interim. IMO Star Wars is crucial to the success of Disney+.

Ep 7 and 8 did very well globally thank you very much. Though there is room for improvement.

You have a right to your opinion...but the more you type this...the more wrong it looks.

Nobody cares about JJ abrams the way you make it seem. Just the Hollywood money men.

I think there’s a decent chance Star Wars falls short of 3 other Disney movies this year. A good chance - actually.

It’s the “culmination” of absolutely nothing...there’s nothing there. No original characters....except maybe ghost Luke.

Now here’s where I’m gonna go the other way: Disney +. Looks a lot more promising than I originally thought....and that could be good for Star Wars

Force Awakens was crushed opening weekend, and Endgame did a higher box office for a second weekend screening (beating TFA by $2-4 mil I believe), which broke another record. It's not a forgone conclusion it's not breaking TFA record either.

It has nothing to do with avatar.

You got caught there and trying to move the goal posts....move on

Funny that the franchise you think is well on it's way to being the top again would have it's dates moved for Avatar 2 (which has been moved like 6 times all by itself). Or it's that "Hiatus" actually meant 3 years, not 1.5 like you predicted.

I see the logic behind these moves. Cynicism hasn't short circuited reason thankfully.

Disney is cranking out 2 or 3 Marvel films a year. Clearly they could have gotten a SW film done in late 2021.

Just shows that Avatar and Star Wars are the crown jewels as they will be sharing the best release dates.

Avatar was given another year negating any chance of SW Christmas 2021. You missed that like you missed Frozen 2 not being delayed. Typical.
Disney is not making avatar, genius
And I corrected frozen...that’s what happens when a person is wrong.

You’re just spouting pro Disney stances irrelevant to the facts at hand. That is typical

This must be”the introduction to the opposites?”

Yeah, nothing says "Crown Jewel" like having to take 3 years off to reboot a franchise while another franchise destroys every record said "Crown Jewel" was SUPPOSED to destroy. "Crown Jewels" don't lose money on some movies. It was this before Jedi. The only way you can possibly call Star Wars this over Marvel is if you have an irrational bias.

Put it another way. Marvel doesn't need the best release dates to shatter records. They are so scared about Star Wars, they are pushing it back (in your eyes only obviously) because they feel they HAVE to keep that prime date without other competition.

Disney is not going to pit their two biggest franchises against each other. As to the rest, time will tell.

No, but why would they not be able to move Star Wars to April like Avengers if it is the Crown Jewel? Or Avatar? Why would it HAVE to be during Christmas?

Box Office Mojo has a great feature on their front page that compares similar franchises in respect to box office. They have one now for SW 7 vs Endgame. Worth your time to study over the next few weeks.

Christmas is the best movie season at this point for blockbusters. No longer summer. Or spring.
