Does anybody want to talk aout itinerary rumors?

Since Disney is keeping us waiting for the rest of 2012, let's speculate! Here's some things I've been reading.

These are all rumors, nothing from Disney, and could be 100% completely wrong.:D

The captain and other cast members onboard have been giving out information. Normally this can be taken with a grain of salt (similar to, but not quite the same level as, WDW bus drivers ), but it's been repeated so many times with some corraborating facts, I'm starting to pay attention.

We know the Fantasy is sailing 7 night Caribbean itineraries through the end of 2012. Those are set, you can already book them.

The Dream will probably continue 3, 4 and 5 night saillings through the end of 2012. Those short sailings are so popular, it's very unlikely Disney would even stop them for a summer.

So what are the Magic and Wonder going to do?

They wouldn't have two ships sailing the same itinerary out of Port Canaveral. Once the Fantasy starts sailing, the Magic has to go somewhere. Everyone assumed it would go back to the Med. That would be my pick for selfish reasons. I was really hoping to be able to go back to the Med in 2012.:D

The word of mouth is they will not go back to the Med next summer  and will instead sail out of New York from May to September!! I hate to miss the Med, but I know that would make a lot of East Coasters happy!:sohappy: That rumor is being repeated over and over by the captain and crew, but who knows how much weight to give it?

Right now, a little internet research will tell you that the Magic is scheduled to be in the Grand Cayman in October, November and December. Since it won't sail out of Port Canaveral, and that's a long stinking way from New York, where could it sail from to reach Grand Cayman? The rumors are - Galveston! That's what the captain and crew are saying. Here's a quote from the Galveston paper that may back it up:

Cruise lines: Fast on the keels of last week’s announcement that Princess Cruises would resume sailing from the island next year, rumors are afloat that the Port of Galveston is about to make yet another big cruise announcement. But port officials are staying mum, saying loose lips would sink the deal.

Disney sailing out of Galveston would be a pretty big crusie announcement!!

Now for the Wonder! That one's tougher! Will it go back to Alaska? Somewhere else? The Wonder is registered to be in port in Hawaii on May 6 and 7 and September 16th. That seems to indicate some kind of repositioning cruise from Los Angeles. Asia maybe?

Can't wait to find out! Anyone else have guesses?

With airfare skyrocketing, I'd like to see a sailing from NY! I haven't heard any rumors, but I'd like to see a southern Caribbean itinerary, something with Belize & Costa Rica maybe. Perhaps someday. I did see an article somewhere claiming that DCL had a tentative port booking in Hawaii. I can't remember where I saw this, though.

The southern Caribbean would be awesome.

Yep, that's what I saw too. The Wonder is booked to be in Hawaii May 6 and 7, and September 16. Very interesting!:)

If this is indeed the case, then Disney can pretty much count on me taking cruises in back to back years (and Continental Airlines will loose out on some money)

Instead of flying into Orlando and driving all the way to the Cruise Port, it will be so much easier (and cheaper) to drive the 15-20 minutes to either NYC cruise terminal or the Bayonne Cruise Terminal. Oh let it be true says I. :)

I'm really holding out hope for Galveston. That rumor totally makes sense with the GC schedule. To fan the flames a bit, I mentioned the Galveston rumor to my hubby who said, "OH! I wonder if that has anything to do with the Disney suits Kacey (his next younger brother) saw...." I didn't catch the rest of that statement. Dunno if Kacey saw them in Galveston or Houston (the nearest big airport is there) or when he saw them. He's working for Technip Engineering who's big offices are in the 'energy corridor' in Houston. Also, he's been flying in/out of Houston a LOT going to/from his house in the Atlanta area where his family is. With his family out of town he's also been running around with one of the cousins in the Galveston area so there's really no telling where he saw these 'Disney suits'. He knew they were Disney peeps, tho. I guess I should text him for more details, huh? LOL!

We're about 1 1/2 hours from Galveston Island via ferry...or about 2 hours if you drive to Houston then down so this would be a sure-deal for us. Tammy, if you hear anything about Galveston you need to give me a holla immediately so I can get on the horn and book a cruise or two. Heck, I might just do my long-wished-for VR! It'd be fairly easy to facilitate family making it to the port there. Would you get any credit for an extra like that???

I'm wondering at what point Disney will put the 2 older ships into dry-dock for a major overhaul. I think I might have heard something about them having short stints probably for touch-ups & minor hull repairs, etc. I'm curious when they'll do like a full-on refurb of the cabins, common areas, restaurants and maybe add upgrades to the pools, slides, etc. As hot as the features on the new ships are I could see them looking at some investing in the other 2 ships to bring them closer to the same level of awesomeness. Also, every ship no matter what it's use is, will eventually need upgrades to their basic systems: navigation, communications, desalinization plants, engines, generators, etc. When does that time come? I know these major overhauls can take a bit of time. I remember in 1984 when I was 10 or so one of my dad's ships (destroyer, USS John Rodgers DD 983) was in dry-dock in Pascagoula for like 6 months while it was stripped down and totally rebuilt. Would the Fantasy taking over a route create a good time for this sort of thing?

Hubby & I would also be very interested in any Panama Canal crossings next year. It would be so awesome to go thru there....although....I don't think Disney will give out the killer certificate my dad got for his first crossing.

Speaking of.... I wonder how many people know the fun they're missing when they cross the equator for the first time??? Pollywogs becoming Shellbacks is quite the right-of-passage...or so I'm told (with photographic evidence)....

Yes, text him!!

I'll definitely let you know when I hear. :D

That's a good question! I don't see that happening in 2012, but it could be coming. The ships go into short dry docks every year or so. Sometimes nothing big changes, sometimes lots of things! One dry dock they added the Ariel Vision up on the deck. They added flat screen TV's during another drydock and during the Wonder's last dry dock they added a lounge for adults where you can sit inside and watch the water. Or watch for whales as they surely had Alaska in mind when they did that.

Well....just wait 'til my old man gets home. I'm gonna kick him for getting me all psyched with rumors from his brother. Apparently Kacey's info was second-hand as far as sightings of Disney folks in the Houston/Galveston area. Kacey & his family are big into cruising (not Disney) but he said he noticed surveys and all sorts of stuff like that about Alaska a full 5 years before Disney went there. I guess on cruising forums or whatever cruise people do to compare notes there's lotsa talk about Disney in Galveston. Hubby also heard somewhere else about Disney doing something in the Houston area that wasn't just a store but he doesn't know where he heard that one. There's also some stupid rumor going around about Disney buying in excess of 1k acres of land on the west side but I don't buy that. Hasn't there been like 15 different cities pop up with the same rumor??? Duh! I think this stuff is pointless rumors which ticks me off....well....since I'm grasping at straws and anything else in hopes Galveston really is in the works. But ooooooohh it's a good thing Tracey isn't due home again until the middle of next month. Maybe I'll go visit him & make him sleep in the 2nd bed in his room as punishment. I'm such a meanie!

Seriously, where else would a ship sail from to make Grand Cayman a stop? I think I heard that Mobile, Alabama is about to lose their Carnival cruise (have a sis-in-law who lives there). Not sure how popular New Orleans would be. We lived in that metro area a long time...I wouldn't want to sail from there. Galveston has some cool stuff to do fairly close to the port: Schlitterbahn, Texas Air Museum, Moody Gardens, & The Strand. A little further out is Johnson Space Center and Kemah's entertainment district. Then there's Houston....

I agree, I can't think of anywhere else feasible to make Grand Cayman a stop. Galveston is the most likely choice.

Dave,

If Disney sails from NY I'm coming to crash at your place the night before embarkation! Yes, I just invited myself.

No problem. Got an extra long couch, and at this very moment it has a Disney Cruise line blanket on the back of it. Just like being on the ship :)

I don't think they would quite hold a full court on a Disney Cruise. :)
