Do you think GM will stay at Test Track?

I certainly wish I were cool, and hip. Man Just once I want the valet service at my local mall to come running up to me with a gleam in their eye. I guess I could buy a Honda with 19 inch wheels. Then I would have to convince my local mall to provide valet service. Those folks in Southern California sure are sophisticated, I am so impressed! It's a very difficult time for a lot of businesses around the world. I have faith in GM to ride out the difficult times. I think when they release the Volt it's going to give them a big boost. GM may or may not continue to sponsor TT after this contract expires. Only time will tell.

And we wonder why we are laughed at around the world with these kind of values.:hammer:

The issue is not really who is paid to assemble it. I'm glad that the foreign companies assemble in the US a lot so at least our economy gets some decent jobs out of it. The issue is that with foreign autos most of the high paying, white collar engineering and management jobs are in another country. It is those jobs that we need in the US. Also, the profits end up in another country where it is used to invest in their economy.

OTOH, my parents had a Honda Accord that was literallly disintigrating after 10 years.
Thanks for explaining that so well before I launched into another rant.

I wish I had gotten ten years out of our Accord. I got tired of using an umbrella INSIDE the car, and I actually got farther on a tank of gas than on a quart of motor oil.

I am a proud driver of a subaru impreza WRX STi, and american car company has yet to produce a car even close to the performance and reliability of that car and keep it under 35k. I was shopping for cars with my friend, we were at a ford dealer and the were selling a shelby edition mustang (not the carol shelby one) for like 48,000 and that car will not touch mine in a real race. Subaru backs that car so much that it came with a membership to the SCCA knowing fully well I will race that car several times a month and if anything breaks they will fix it.

Anyway im done ranting. Anyone wants a ride and is in buffalo give me a call!

My biggest issue with Subaru is the lousy mileage they get. My Wife has a Legacy GT and struggles to get 25mpg highway. Around town she's lucky to get 15 (less if I drive it!). For a 33XXlb sedan with a 2.5L engine and 5sp stick this is hard to swallow.

I currently drive a high mileage '99 Chrysler 300M, same 250hp, 1 liter bigger displacement and 350lbs heavier...I have gotten 30mpg on long highway trips, and average 17-18 around town. This is a full size boat!

I'm currently looking seriously at the Pontiac G8.

As far as sponsors of Test Track,....I always thought Snap-On was the big sponsor!

Boxer motors are not fuel efficient.

Its kinda funny with all the talk of imports get better mpg. My supercharged Buick gets better mpg than my wifes Lexus(both cars are 6 cylinders). Although I guess in SoCal she would have a higher status meter than me?:ROFLOL: Pre madonnas are so .

I dont think other car manufacturers care about sponsoring at WDW. Why couldnt Honda or Toyota sponsor UoE with their eco boxes, it could be a good Fit =P.

It's not just Detroit or the Detroit area, either...all of Michigan pretty much sucks...I plan on moving south once I graduate from college and get married (about two years)..

I don't know where you've gotten that idea, especially for a college graduate, Michigan is a great place for jobs (outside of Detroit and outside of the manufacturing and auto sectors--but then again, those jobs aren't exactly tailored towards college grads). Michigan may be having economic problems as of late at a slightly higher rate than the rest of the country, but the vast majority of the state is far from blighted. It, in fact, is just Detroit.

And how the heck is that cohesive with EPCOT or Future World?

They are going to be building Carsland in DL so it would be built there.

Disneyland is in California. WDW is in Florida. There's the reason Test Track could easily become Carsland Junior. Disney doesn't care that both resorts exist in the same country with much of the same potential audience. Test Track is already about cars - bingo, perfect fit for a "Cars" ride! It doesn't have to be related to Future World because it's going to sell pins, t-shirts and action figures like hotcakes. I'm almost certain this is going to happen eventually. (They're making a sequel...) It's just to what extent it happens that's the question.

As for GM, I don't see the point in the argument that GM makes a shoddy product. My family has had at least one Chevy vehicle on our driveway for the last ten or twelve years. Those cars held up pretty well for as long as we had them. Who cares if it's what's trendy in Southern California. If it runs safely and I can drive it from point a to point b, I'm pretty happy. Why must it be the fanciest foreign vehicle out there. Who cares about status; I just want to live my life and be happy.

Well, many people stated "GM isn't selling cars." But Toyota passed GM for #1 (so far this year), so doesn't that mean that GM outsells Honda, Chrysler, Ford, and all the others? Sounds like they're selling cars to me! By the way, do you Toyota fanatics realize that in 2007, Toyota recalled more cars than it sold, a distinction held previously only by the Ford in 1979. So ALL manufacturers have quality issues, not just the domestics. Toyota has enjoyed lower production runs for decades, but starting around 2005, they started getting into Ford's production volume, and some problems started to show. Toyota had such serious problems in 2007, that they sent all their experts over from Japan to find out what's gone wrong.

I like the idea of re-bodying the Test Track cars as Lightning McQueen cars, maybe even some of the other CARS characters too. Although I don't think Tow Mater would be very aerodynamic for that outside blast around the loop. :)

It would be a big hit for GM to back out of the sponsership. Disney buys and leases hundreds of vechicles a year from them for WDW alone. If Test track got sponsered by say Toyota (not that toyota has a matching vechicle for every GM) do you think WDW would keep buying GM'S?

Probably not...and would that be a bad thing?

Thank you, WDWFigment, for saying that! I feel as though all Michigan has gotten lately is a bad rap. The economy is not sparkling here...but the way I see it, Michigan is just the first car pulling the rest of the country down the rollercoaster hill with it! There are lots of great things to do here: awesome sports teams (Yay Red Wings), great camping/hiking, wonderful shopping, and some fantastic restaurants...and gambling (if you are into that scene). Lots of reasons to still enjoy Michigan, both residents and visitors alike.
*And now I'm stepping off my soapbox*

With all there financial problems wonder if they will still sponsor Test Track.

If it's a noncore business, I'd bet on them dumping the sponsorship ASAP.

Maybe it will become Tesla Test Track.

That's the spirit! But somehow, I don't think they can afford it ;)

maybe Toyota's Test Track.....since they just past GM in sales

Sounds good to me. Or perhaps Nissan/Infiniti, with a shiny new GT-R on the floor ;)

Segway Test Track...?

:fork:

i heard Volkswagen wanted to sponsor it but Disney did not like them um-pimping the GM test cars

As a VW driver, I salute you (2008 R32)

It's funny that you mention that, because heads ALWAYS turn when I am driving my GM Roadster pictured below on the freeway. People won't stop stop looking at or asking me about my car.

Well, to be fair, your car is the exception to the rule as far as GM's go. Saturn is IMO the exception. Jeremy Clarkson said it best in last weeks top gear: Vauxhall does not have an ugly car. Now let's do some car brand math:

Vauxhall = Opel (V=O), Saturn = S. Americanization = A

O + A = S

Sweet! In one short paragraph you just gave me about 5 reasons to love GM!

5 other reasons:

1- Cheap
2- And you can still haggle more
3- Extremely well equipped for the price
4- Did I mention they were cheap? I did... oh, well... err.. Good Warranty!
5- The Corvette, G8, and CTS-V

Talking about domestic vs. foreign there are some very strange facts to it all...

I have a few co-workers and friends that drive Toyota trucks and cars - every single one of them that I know of is made in the US. I own 2 Ford trucks, one is from Canada and the other is from Mexico. :veryconfu

Talk about putting a new spin on foreign vs. domestic.

My German car was made in Germany, but my Japanese car was made in Mexico.

Per capita, Orlando is one of the most crime infested and most dangerous cities in America. Look at the crime statistics of Orlando compared to Anaheim!

http://orlando.areaconnect.com/crime/compare.htm?c1=Orlando&s1=FL&c2=anaheim&s2=CA

Yet another reason I will never return to Orlando to live.

If anyone should sponser it should be ford because In alot of TV Shows on ABC they are giving away ford escape hybrid.

Ford Brands
Ford
Linclion
Mecury
Mazda
Volvo
Jaguar (until end of summer)

And disney made attractions for Ford back in the Worlds Fair for there cars.
Its also the first company to make cars so they can also make use for educational
purposes to

THERE has already been a rumor that Ford will sponser Test Track starting late 2009

Ford no longer owns Jag. Sold to Tata alongside Land Rover. Quite sad really, the XF really looks like it can turn Jag round.

Go Europe! Are Focuses popular in the US? As they are a very common car over here which could be the reasoning for us getting a better car. And they may be better, but they are more expensive. If the drivers side was on the 'correct' side :)p) i am sure imports of cars from the US to the UK would be huge.

The following are the brands I wouldn't mind seeing.

1. GM
2. Nissan
3. BMW

Don't forget...GM isn't just Chevy.

GM = Chevy, GMC, Saab, Hummer, Saturn, Buick, Pontiac, Cadillac, Holden, Vauxhall, and Opel. (I think Daewoo is in there too...but do they even count?)

Daewoo is in there, but no longer as a brand in most of the world. GM Daewoo now manufactures cars that are badged as such for domestic sales, and rebadged in the mainstream/value brand in GM's local inventory. Generally Chevy, Pontiac (Mexico/Canada), Holden, and Opel/Vauxhall.

Last I heard about Hummer, Tata was interested in buying it.

Maybe it could become the 'Mattel Hot Wheels Test Track'.

That seems the most plausible to me

^You gotta admit, though, Rob... a Segway Test Track involving standing up on a thin metal plate at 65 mph around a curve just might jolt some interest back into the thing. (Likely the interest of lawyers.)

Man, these forums are educational. So how does this merging thing work? You just pull out in your 19 inchers and there's a magical bubble around your car? Does this work only on the freeways, or does it work the same way on the thoroughfares through South Central?

Well, first of all, we're talking about Orange County here. I wouldn't dare go to South LA. Ever. It's just not my scene, mainly because I value my life. If I do go to downtown LA, I often take the train up there. So I have no idea how it works in South LA. ("South Central" has been deemed Politically Incorrect by African-American activists, and if you use that old label you may be racist. It's "South Los Angeles" now. Just an FYI, so be careful.)

As for OC, the freeway merging thing works like this...

The following automobiles do not need to signal or wait for appropriate space to merge or change lanes. They simply change the direction and space their vehicle inhabits, and everyone else defers to their superiority. They may make these maneuvers at any time, regardless of traffic, time of day, or weather conditions. They rule the freeway, and they know it. In alphabetical order;

Aston Martin
Bentley
Bugatti
Ferrari
Lamborghini
Maybach
Mercedes SLR
Rolls Royce

The next tier are cars that enjoy basically the same courtesies as the list above, but during inclement weather or particulary heavy road congestion they need to at least make some sort of movement within their lane that signals they need to move. However, under no circumstances do they need to actually use their turn signals, and they still deserve to take over your space as quickly as possible:

Audi R8 or Q7
BMW 7 Series, M6, or X6
Lotus
Mercedes S, SL, CL, or any late model AMG offering
Morgan
Porsche, except Boxster
Spyker

Then comes a big swath of the OC and SoCal roadway, mainly comprised of the Real Housewives of OC going to Nordstrom or the Botox Clinic, and the real struggle for supremacy on SoCal roads. Do not get in their way, and do not impede their route. These cars don't signal and can get fast attention from a valet attendant, but may occasionally agree to yield to fire trucks or ambulances on rainy nights;

Audi, full line
BMW, full line
Infiniti, full line
Jaguar, full line
Land Rover, full line
Lexus, full line
Mercedes-Benz, full line
Volvo, except C30

Next come the niche vehicles and less impressive luxury brands. They can usually get away without signaling, and are often great at posing as cool cars 80% of the time. But when push comes to shove, or during unusual circumstances, they quickly bow their headlights and defer to the superior vehicles around them.

Acura, full line
Cadillac Escalade or XLR only
Chevrolet Corvette, classic restored or late model only
Ford Mustang, classic restored or late model GT convertible
Porsche Boxster
HUMMER, except H2
Volvo C30

Then we have the basic nice family cars, chick cars, or college kid cars. They sometimes use signals, and they sometimes might wave quickly at you when you extend a roadway courtesy to them. But they are often driven by young people whose parents have a car belonging to the upper ranks, and as such they don't neccesarily need to give you the time of day. And if they have good hair or are noticeably attractive, they often get away with murder even though they aren't driving a Maybach. It's all about the attitude and bravado with these ones;

Cadillac, full line
Dodge, Challenger or Magnum Hemi only with at least 20 inch wheels
Chrysler, 300C only
Honda, full line
Ford, late model trucks or SUV's only
GM, late model trucks or SUV's only
Mazda, full line
HUMMER, H2
Jeep, Wrangler or Grand Cherokee only
Lincoln, Navigator only
Mazda, full line
Mini Cooper, full line
Scion, full line but custom wheels are mandatory
Subaru, WRX only
Toyota, full line
Volkswagen, full line
Hyundai, Genesis sedan only

And finally comes the bottom feeders, and the folks who should know their place. They have no real status, and they deserve little recognition or courtesy on the freeway or major thoroughfares. These are The Untouchables, and they are made up primarily of people who have made bad life decisions, or are wide-eyed tourists who didn't know Hertz offers a Luxury Collection at major airports;

Buick, full line
Chevrolet, full line
Chrysler,full line
Dodge, full line
Ford, full line
Pontiac, full line
Saturn, full line
Scion, full line if only equipped with factory wheel covers
Subaru, full line
Kia, full line
Hyundai, full line
Mercury, full line
Lincoln, sedans

Got it?

I'm surprised you people didn't know this already! :D
