Do you like SCARY MOVIES?

It had some good suspense moments - but the main character wasn't very bright in her decisions, so we spent a lot of the movie yelling at her choices. The kids got a good scare though so it was a success.
Not a gory movie, a few "F" bombs and an almost s-x scene gave it the R rating.
I watched "The Strangers" last night on Bluray on a 50 inch plasma with the surround sound cranked to 11. This movie was suspenseful as hell.
I love the minimalist approach it took. Minimal set design, plot, and soundtrack. It gave the film a firm grip on reality.

My wife wouldn't shut up about how stupid Liv Tyler's character was.
I gave out countless "shushes". LOL. It had some well done cheap
scares. One towards the end of the film really got me.

I give the film 4 out of 5 decapitated heads. Good Stuff!!!!

I used to watch a lot of scry movies but I've become a wimp in my old age!!

I saw the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre and I have to say, it just really annoyed me!! The characters were just so...annoying! I couldn't wait for the chainsaw guy to arrive and just get rid of them all!

And I saw The Ring with my cousin at the cinema. We were just supposed to meet up to see the film, but 3 days later, she was still at my house, to scared to be on her own!! She even came to the bathroom with me!!

Other than that, the scariest I am willing to go now are films like Signs and The Village - frightened the life out of me first time I saw them!!

I agree with your rating but I have a feeling you would have kicked your wife and I out of the room because we would have been drowning out your "shushes" Liv was not bright in this film.

WHOA....I need to step in the ring and defend The Massacre! The grainy feel...the suspense leading up to the house...the chase through the woods...and that eerie "dinner," It doesn't get any better! Some of the greatest visuals in horror history came from that movie. Leatherface standing in the doorway...and he just slams that steel door. (For horror afficianados...SAW had that same visual...and it was a nod to the Massacre.) The sounds still, to this day, have stuck with me... The movie paints such a great picture that you can almost SMELL the decay and how pungent that area would be.

The actors weren't big names...they were dumb and over the top...but to degrade the entire movie and call it "annoying" is harsh. (Hehe, it is your opinion though...so you're entitled to it :) )

The Ring is too "produced" for me. Yes, it's a scary movie and I'll give it the props it deserves...but a horror movie, to me, should have that "grainy" nasty dirty feeling to it.

(BTW, I didn't like the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre because it looked too "clean.")

I'd like to see Quarantine.

(Also, I'll even stand up for The Blair Witch Project.) The first time I watched that...it was at a screening and it hadn't come out that it wasn't "real" yet. (Back then I wasn't finding out every internet rumor and news about movies either).

I agree with both of you....

On one hand the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of the greatest horror films ever created. The grain and the no-budget lighting make it feel like
a reality tv show that went horribly wrong. That's the charm of TCM.
It's easily in the top 5 because it defines, if not invented the slasher genre.

On the other hand, Franklin aka the fat dude in the wheelchair is the most
annoying fictional character ever created. Put anyone in a van with that guy for more than 10 minutes and they're bound to go homicidal.

...I definitely agree with you about Franklin

They were really playing up his "I'm so needy" part a little too much.

I almost forgot...that even had a nice twist towards the end! (The Sheriff being one of "them.")

i would catch Quarantine, it was actually not a bad movie at all. I went in not expecting much and got alot more than I was looking for.

The only thing I didn't like was the way in which it was filmed!

I've actually been disappointed with the Halloween fare that's been on TV. Yeah, they've shown Psycho (all time classic) and Scream but Jeepers Creepers 2? I think one of the movie channels was showing Alien (another classic) but I'm just not getting the same Halloween-ey vibe I did last year from watching TV. Although I do enjoy watching the 101 Scariest Movie Moments countdown that was on Bravo. So many of those clips gave me the creeps!

One of the movies that really messed with me was The Ring. I think any movie that has that "this could possibly/actually happen" feel to it just seems to stick with me. Oh! And the ending of Blair Witch...oh man, I couldn't talk for about five minutes after the movie was done. My brother and I was just silent as we took the tape out of the VCR.

The "killer" named Jigsaw (in all of the commercials, you hear his voice) has a great life and family...and gets diagnosed with brain cancer and feels that his life has been cheated. He looks around at all of the people that are taking their life for granted and doing the wrong things and tries to "rehabilitate" them... Yes, sometimes something horrible must happen to open your eyes...but once it happens, you'll be better off.

(Kinda like someone who is drunk driving and gets in an accident...and kills another person...it sometimes opens up their eyes and they quit drinking).

Hehe, but Jigsaw actually died at the end of Saw III.

If you're a gore-wimp...definitely stay away. It's a gore-fest...but they're not really "scary" movies...just suspenseful and (especially the first one) there's usually a good twist at the end.

Thank you for the explaination of the movies. I appreciate it because I know I wouldn't watch it, but at least now I understand the premise for the movie. At 43 with three kids, anything that scares me (the wimp factor again) keeps me awake at night and gets the mind racing about terrible things. My husband loves to watch movies like that and I willing dissapear when he want to watch one, but I will smile inside next time he wants to watch one and I can suggest the Saw movies because you explained it to me. Thanks again for giving me a moment of coolness!

Hehe, everybody's  here! :D

Yep, not scary...just gorey...and throughout the movie he'll think he knows how it will end...and then it'll throw him off the track a little...and then BAM...his jaw will drop to the floor because he "never saw that comin'!" (Yeah, pun intended).

I agree with the lack of "GOOD" scary movies on TV this year. Bad sequels of bad horror flicks don't cut it (man, I'm throwing puns around left and right!). If I have to see Final Destination 38 again...I'm going to scream!

I'm generally not huge on horror films. I will say that I liked the "Scream" movies. My favorite for horror style though is something along the lines of "In the Mouth of Madness." It has some freaky things, but also has a large amount of more psychological scariness to it as well. If you haven't seen it, I really do suggest giving it a go. And it's got Sam Neill, who can be naturally creepy anyway. Just look at him in "Event Horizon."

In the "Mouth of Madness" is one of the best horror films of the 90's and it's so underrated. The old guy on the bicycle is freakin' creepy. Did I ever tell you my favorite color was blue?
