Disney's "Summer to Remember"

I prefer the corps-has a nice ring to it.

Don't forget about the merch previews. Half those unemployed bloggers probably supplement their income in that stuff, yay Duffy vinyls!

Yeah, it sure does have a nice ring... it shows the level of jealously that some on this forum have..

I wouldn't define the local coverage as "huge"... it's a perception I guess, but yeah.. not 'huge'... it's one attraction, and it's old tech...

Now, when the arctic attraction at seaworld opens.. That'll be 'huge'

I suppose huge considering it is one attraction and low tech. Front page Orlando Sentinel, some radio morning show coverage, story on morning and afternoon news. Its more than anything Disney is drumming up. And by the time Fantasyland is complete...it will have been drawn out for so long and will have been so phased out, it will most likely get the same treatment from the press. If not less....

Indeed. It's so sad, almost annoying, that this none event was just a feeble PR spin attempt to distract attention away from Seaworlds new Turtle Trek which opened today, and Universals new day and night entertainment this summer. And also to distract attention away from the fact that WDW has nothing new to offer this summer, entertainment or otherwise.

BTM doesn't count - what should be routine refurb that couldn't be put off any longer.

Test Track is a long overdue sponsor funded update, the sort that would happen ever decade or so as the norm in the past (Ellen, Imagination I'm looking at you)

Spectro was scrapped. As was a new MK night show. Let's not go over new Fanland again and it's flawed reasoning.

Studios may get a five minute walk through. Woo. Things are bad when the PR department has to produce a video of a new restaurant and flog it as something to come back to see. I'm sure it'll be very nice, and reminiscent of the planned one from DLP circa 1992, but it ain't an E Ticket. Or D. Or C.

Bottom line - more PR and internet spin trying to hide in vain a big nothing.

The internet once again is to blame for a lot of the hype-of-nothing though. The whole Summer to Remember was not meant to be a public slogan for the summer. It was a name given to a media event. The internet people then post that around, and before you know it, WDW now has a big huge 'Summer to Remember".

I believe the real purpose of this event was to get eyes and ears onto the fact that Art of Animation is opening up in a months time. The FLE and TT are side dishes to that. The focus here was not new attraction announcements.

Guess I made a good wager to not buy an AP this year. Was going to wait until 2013 but now I guess I should wait until 2014.

This PR events really are sad. Why even bother? Looks like we'll just stick with our BG APs and possibly do a DL trip next year. I can't believe I haven't stepped foot in a Disney Park in over a year. :dazzle:

Indeed. I'm not pointing fingers or stoking the fire about free fan site publicity, but you can't help feel the free buzz generated by these non-events, buzz that also turns them into an event, is an enjoyed press manipulation for very little work to drag attention from the competition. We live in a wired world (cue Global Neighbourhood spiels) where a non event can be spun very quickly and virtually for no cost into a something that can take attention away from elsewhere.

Cynical maybe. True maybe. A grey area? Yep. Sign of things to come? Probably.

To educate people who don't spend every minute of the day pouring over every detail of WDW. In particular, Art of Animation Resort - a MASSIVE new hotel that is 1 month away from opening.

And kudos must be given to finally opening the resort that was halted through no fault of TDOs. Even if the theming may not to be everyone's liking, moreso the fact its appealing to and aiming to help the value level of the market and not the DVC.

The same few people who tend to constantly complain about WDW (but still are on here everyday posting-even though they think WDW is so flawed these days-instead of on a Universal or Seaworld fan site) are on here complaining about a non event that every single person on these boards knew was a non event. Wow, you 'guys' (or girls) look rather desperate. You're trying a bit too hard to find stuff to complain about. Rather pathetic.

But Disney's blameless for overselling this thing as the "Summer to Remember"?

Their media "events" have become such a joke, I'm amazed these PR folks keep their jobs.

Yet your news post with the AoA room video has zero replies. All the other bits of news from this media event are what people are focusing on here.
