Disney's Live Action The Little Mermaid

In the case of Elemental it might not even make back production cost let alone marketing.

The one I have my eye on is Indy.

If that bombs it’s time to fire someone.

If Iger is not sure who ( he does seem confused ) I could make some suggestions.
Historically, was there ever any accountability for movies that lose money at TWDC?
It seems they make a movie and hope for the best.

Remember, they can always rise prices for everything at the theme parks while cutting offerings at the theme parks to make up for the losses.

Nope. Just look how long Alan Horn helmed Disney Studios in which the majority of movies lost money theatrically and received very low critics and audience scores (looking at you The Nutcracker and the Four Realms).

When D+ started, they couldn't move those awful movies to D+ fast enough rather then embarrassing themselves with theatrical releases (looking at you, Artemis Fowl).

But what do I know? I'm just a pixie-dusting shill that rides for Disney!!

But when a movie gets close to breaking even, it's hard to know how much of the box office goes back to the company and how much it costs the company to make and market.
True. There are all sorts of factors that go into it. I've read that the length of time you keep the movie in theaters before making it available to stream/buy/rent will effect the percentage they get. They purposely muddy the waters with vauge numbers. I think most of the time you will have a pretty good idea of if a movie hit profitable status. But yea if it's really close, 5 or 10mil on the marketing could swing it either way.

You’re not a shill but you have to admit you are very good with words.

I hope you work in some sort of public relations because you would be very very good at it.

This is fun!

As per the numbers site, the 1937 Snow White made 184.9 million at the (domestic only) box office. This must be over its lifetime!
The 1937 Snow White, when adjusted for inflation, cost about 10.5 million to make. This does not include marketing costs.

The 2022 Lightyear (I liked the move actually) as per the numbers site, made 118.3 million (domestic only)
According to the numbers site, it cost 200 million to make, this does not include marketing costs, which was tens of millions.

All that said, box office numbers are really worthless today as we do not know how much money actually goes back to TWDC for any movie.
Box Office Mojo shows it’s worldwide gross is just under a billion when adjusted for inflation:

Spiking the football because a movie “makes” more now vs decades earlier ignores massive changes both in terms of the value of a dollar and the nature of box office trends.

And 86 years from now I suspect folks will still know of this movie and the movies they make today will be long forgotten.

Unless in the future there is world cyber war destroys all data, content and humankind as we know it.

Happy Friday :)

Nice! 1976 Rocky did better than the Rise of Skywalker 🤣
Rocky cost very little to make.
I am not surprised personally. Rocky got standing ovations in the theater.

It won the Academy Award that year! Highest grossing film that year, and Stallone was nominated for Best Actor and for Best Original Screenplay

That’s in the past though.

Didn’t Iger just say he is going to be holding people accountable for poor performance ?
