Disney is not making marketing decisions for TLM and Elemental based on some virtuous crusade against hateful morons. It’s making them based on calculations about what will earn the most money, almost certainly predicated on a notion that the live-action remakes are “safe” while Pixar has been shaky at the box office (because of Disney’s own choices, of course). TLM is likely viewed as an easier sell for many reasons - it’s an established IP with a much starrier cast then the unproven Elemental, and the company is clearly pushing Bailey as a star with a lot of future promise for Disney. In general, it’s fair to say Disney isn’t showing much faith in Elemental.Absolutely. They have to push hard and show their full confidence in the final product. The hate storm, the trolling, the spamming, cannot win.
The culture war assault on TLM is repellent and Disney is absolutely in the right in it’s incredibly important conflict with Florida, but let’s not pretend it’s some sort of corporate white knight. It’s a mammoth entertainment conglomerate and it’s primary goal will always be money.
