It does not matter how many remakes there are of "The Little Mermaid", how well or how bad the actors portray the characters or how good or bad the cinematography is the original animated version will always be the gold standard.
Until Disney decides to band it for not being politically correct.

It’s in the scene where the Three Good Fairies are having tea and cookies as they discuss what they should do about Aurora after Maleficent casts her spell at the party. I discovered it years ago after taking a close look.

Cool, I never knew that…!

Below are pics of a scene from a movie most probably wouldn’t expect to see Hidden Mickey’s in…”Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”, from 1971. Interestingly enough though, Disney Legend Harper Goff was the Art Director for the film…!!! :)

I've given up trying to prove this point. I've decided to just wait it out
Every analytic in box office points to somewhere between $12-$14 million in previews. Aladdin made $7 million and BatB made $16.3m. Aladdin ended up with $91 million for its 3-day OW while BatB made $174m. The big question marks are (1) can we compare post-pandemic numbers to pre-pandemic numbers and (2) will the movie get torn to shreds by critics AND audiences. The former is a question mark because there haven't been any classic remakes to hit the theater post-pandemic. As for the latter, there's been a LOT of praise for Halle and I think that will at least make a big impact on audience reactions. Early chatter is that McCarthy nailed it too. Aladdin had a LOT of negativity leading up to release.

I'd wager to say that north of $100 million for the 3-day weekend is almost certain and upwards of $130 million is very doable for the entire Memorial Day weekend. The hype is real folks!

Yes, it’s tracking for a three day around 110 million, which will likely put it around Jungle Book, which is very good, but not Nearly B&tB or Lion King good.

But come on, even putting aside the hateful culture war garbage, the negativity around Mermaid has been at least as intense as Aladdin - the response to the character design and the “animation” in clips has been particularly downbeat. The reaction to Bailey is great, but she’s an unknown and even with good personal buzz you can’t put too much on her shoulders.

So, once again, the movie is tracking to make a very minimum of $100 million 3-day and probably around $130 million 4-day. BatB made $174 million and Lion King $191.8 million in their opening weekends. I never said TLM was going to make that much.

As for the buzz, yes, Halle is being highly praised (and so is McCarthy btw) and yes, that is enough to help it tremendously. If the two biggest characters, Ariel and Ursula, are praised, that is enough to generate positive buzz that will bring butts to seats.

But no, TLM's negativity has not been the same as Aladdin's. Aladdin was laughed at and ridiculed due to the early teasers and clips. TLM never dealt with that, at least not even close to the degree of Aladdin. The positive buzz has recently outshined the haters and critics who could only cling to (1) Ariel's race which is no longer even being mentioned and (2) remake fatigue. Criticism has been very subjective versus the more objective early criticism of Aladdin (and TLK for that matter).

I mean, the only real criticism I can accept is those sick of remakes, and towards flounder. Why’s he gotta look so freaky?

Other than that, I am so excited for this film and mostly bummed that I will be abroad and can’t contribute to its opening or second weekends.

But I’ll be there for its third week!
