Disneyland's 60th Birthday: Rumors, Speculation and News

A livestream would be epic.

And yeah, the second they say something at the event, people will be tweeting it.

Not to mention this is a major media kickoff event for an American icon. They are shutting down Disneyland early that day and then hosting a big media party that night. All traditional media outlets will be there; LA Times, OC Register, TV Networks, CNN, AP, Conde Naste', etc., etc.

It will then be the big "fluff story" across all media the following day, Thursday, January 29th.

If you have a TV, a radio, or the Internet, you won't be able to not know it happened and what the 60th will offer.

All those??? What for??? Because it's 60? Because a Night/Light Parade is returning to DL? MSEP's final night was on TV. Don't get wrong, turning 60 is great and if we get all we're hearing: PTN-like Parade, Pyro that maybe tops RDCT????, New WOC......the 60th should be fantastic!!! I just don't remember this much press on May 5th, 2004 when the 50th was announced. There was only online videos from Mouseplanet and LP. Now that 50th announcement was the best Castle Stage show I've seen from DL.

Oh WOW. Didn't know they were getting this serious, again. HOORAY. Very exciting. Will they be shutting down DL on 5-14-15 before the big 5-15-15 launch day like they did in 2005?

What would be a nice touch is having a live webcam set up somewhere in the Park on July 17th.
This was done for the recent 24 hour parties, why not do something similar for the actual 60th Birthday of Disneyland?
Would be quite nice, and give those not able to make the trip out to the Park that day a way to 'be there' in some form after all.
Really make it a 'global' celebration..in this age of the internet and all.

During the last 24 Hour Party at WDW, the webcam they had was setup on the balcony of the train station looking down Main Street.
It was on all day and all night, broadcasting the full 24 hours from early morning to early morning.
Fans watching from afar could check in periodically and see many things happening in the Park...from both parades, the nightly fireworks, Custodial CMs painting character drawngs with water on the sidewalks, and lots more.

Here is a screen grab from that day...showing the webcam view.

Notice the City Hall CMs sending a visual 'hello' to fellow CMs watching on the other coast at DLR...!
A fun moment.

Considering that they want to do 24 hour parties...and 60 hour parties... this could easily happen?

You remember incorrectly. The 50th kick off was an enormous press push.

Maybe I wasn't into cable news yet. All I remember is that Castle Show the morning of May 5th 2004, One year till the 50th started. Eisner and Andrews were there and there were reports from all the Disney Parks including everything DL had planning.

The Fan sites had coverage, I just don't remember hearing it anywhere else.

I remember the 50th celebration promotion well.
It was what finally made me take a serious look at Disneyland after 'living' at WDW for so many years.

Up until that point i of course was aware of 'Walt's Park', but did not have a real awareness of it's rich and varied history.
The promotional push opened my eyes in a big way.
A lot of 'history of the Park in a nutshell' type of articles in the media...and retro photography.
Oh my...the fabulous PHOTOS of that history i saw !
So i made a pact with myself to get out to California in a year or two.
Finally did, and i was a changed dragon. Now i am in love with the place.

If not for the big 50th blowout, i would probably still be in a stupor as to what glories were to be had out West.
That, and a certain 'idea guy' opening that door of discovery even further.

I guess you could say Cars Land is what's finally bringing me out west. Can't wait to see everything else that'll be open too.

Well you are not alone Mike...many folks from the East Coast and beyond are making the trip West to see the spectacle with their own eyes.

You will be WOWED ....mark my words, my friend.

;)

For anyone visiting Anaheim for the first time after many WDW visits, "Reaffirm" is the word I like to use.

You will leave with a new understanding of why you fell in love with Disney Parks to begin with.

Even though Mike is going to be hitting DLR at the worst possible time with so much in motion for the 60th, I guarantee he will still come away with an affirmation of why these places are so special.

*Please note: the above mentioned affirmation does come a potential cost - you may not look at WDW the same way again as you will remember the high standards they once held themselves to.

It does bother me a little that I'll be missing some things during my trip (Matterhorn, World of Color, etc.) but I'm just excited to finally be going at all :D I can see everything I miss next time. There will be a next time, I guarantee you that ;) I hope you all look forward to the trip thread I'll start.

Very true in my case.
I have not been back to WDW since experiencing the wonderful charm that is Disneyland, and California as a whole.
Used to go every year to Florida...but the last couple of years i have had absolutely NO interest in returning to WDW any time soon.
Disneyland has completely *spoiled* me and i have been thoroughly enjoying the refreshing change.

Just booked my next visit to Anaheim today.
More ex-WDW Vets need to do the same and see what they are missing, especially THIS year !

Nope.
Yet to have visited.

Came close a few years ago when i was in Orlando visiting friends, but to date i have never set foot in any Universal Park personally.
CityWalk in Orlando, yes...once with friends.
Parks...nope.
Usually came down to time and money constraints, but i have certainly been aware of all that has gone on there over the years as far as their rides and shows go.
