Were they bidding on the physical mall building or the building plus the parcel?

They way I understand it, STC bought the physical retail/dining/entertainment buildings plus the original parking structure. The land is split up like a Condo project, all 4 owners get a percentage of the entire lot with the exception of the Fire Department land, which is owned by the city.

That new owner also thinks these little guys at the GardenWalk entrance are a great idea, and very classy.
The same thinking that put those faux fireworks lights in the plaza next to House Of Blues. I can't look at them and think of anything but a questionable used car dealership.

Socialist fire departments taking up prime real estate.

That's a tired old line of Bill Maher's from 15 years ago. Fire departments (or police, or parks, or schools) are not Socialism.

Dr. Jose Moreno has made no secret of actively campaigning for and being involved with candidates from the Democratic Socialist Party of America. He only registered as a plain old Democrat in 2014, when he first ran for City Council, because he knew the label Socialist appearing next to his name on the ballot could not get anyone elected in Anaheim. So he registered as a Democrat for the first time in his life then. But he makes it painfully obvious that he is a Socialist anytime he opens his mouth.

Although he's been laying pretty low on his anti-business opinions lately, ever since the Anaheim economy and tax base collapsed.

I honestly can't wait to hear Dr. Moreno's opinion on this DisneylandForward campaign and this latest design proposal from Disneyland. It should be interesting to hear his take on it. I imagine he feels this is unfair or unequitable to someone, and it will take resources away from other parts of the city. Or some such line of thinking. I can't wait!

Yeah, I've seen those lights at night, and they are very tacky.

Let's also not forget that this is the same GardenWalk owner company that installed this gorgeous little vignette in the valet drop off loop about six months ago. Off-Brand Fiberglass Ariel. Off-Brand electric fish and seaweed. The exposed wires. The whole thing plopped on pavement right in front of a trampy billboard advertising liquor. Or maybe it's just a billboard advertising tramps? 🤣

The obvious and repeated design decisions that have been made by GardenWalk's owners and operators for the past two years make it painfully obvious that this is not a company that has access to proper resources for property development and branding, or even knows what to do with this mall that they lucked into as the third place bidder behind Disney.

There is no conspiracy theory here. There is no secret Disney shell company involved. GardenWalk is simply now owned by a clueless third place bidder that lucked into the mall that Disney should have bought for pennies on the dollar.

The eastern component of this really fascinates me. I’ve been trying to figure out if the one map including the eastern parking garage/gateway includes all the property Disney owns in that space or just where they would theoretically put a parking garage. If the goal of this whole initiative is to reclassify the resort district such that Disney has greater flexibility regarding what goes where, could this spot be further reevaluated regarding the most beneficial contents now that the Pixar Pals garage has been built.

Further, I wonder if the shift away from a third park on the strawberry field/Toy Story lot location to a mixed use hotel and retail designation isn’t a sign that Disney is willing to concede on Gene Autry Way. If the spot was to be a third park, there is no way to bifurcate that space and make it useful. There would be a lot of ways to shift retail, dining and a hotel to allow for the expansion of Gene Autry Way. Especially if Disney would be able to purchase some of the land the city would be getting from the Sunset Palm apartment eminent domain proceeding. You could have the mini Disney Springs built on the Katella side and additional parking on the Orangewood side.

There is a way, though a bit costly, allow the city to go underground with Gene Autry Way, and then build on top of it, similar to how many subways are built currently, Cut and Cover.

Or just don’t waste the money on the highway to nowhere. You claim the current entrance on Harbor Blvd is a security risk. A tunnel would be even more of a risk.

Does anyone know how all the Harbor Blvd and GardenWalk business are faring right now?

I know. I have friends who are invested in the commercial real estate biz in OC.

The Anaheim Resort District is destroyed. The corporate places are mostly in mothballs still, but luckily will survive. The smaller mom n' pop places are either closed permanently, or closed temporarily while the families attempt to rally financing needed to reopen maybe this summer.

Many lifelong dreams and livelihoods are already gone.

And the homeless have taken over. They are everywhere now, in every bus stop and increasingly in the doorways and side entrances of closed and abandoned businesses. The rest of OC is booming again, but the Anaheim Resort District is still in a deep freeze.

The exception is a few of the restaurants on Katella at GardenWalk. They actually got a bump in business once the vaccine Supersite opened in the Toy Story Lot across the street. But the rest of the Resort District's business environment is about like this....

I swear on my stack of Disneyland maps that my first thought on seeing this abbreviation was "Disney's going to refurbish Jesus?!?"

This picture will be funny forever.
LOL. I'm with you. I'm still waiting for Disneyland to be a "Major OC Vacation Site"

Yikes. I'm so sorry for those business owners. Thank you for the update.

Despite the suggested of what could go in the west side. I think this plan should have been initiated before the Eastern Gateway Plan. But I am not sure how I feel expanding the west end for more theme park experience. They are so close to the home tracts than ever.

Disneyland Forward sound more involved to be open with the outside business and the community. That that sound more better to get involved through this way.

i think a great idea for the expansion of hollywood land would be to make it full of dark cool small old style rides kinda like CA version of fantasy land in DL. They could keep the entire 40s hollywood theme and use theater facades on the show buildings to make it look like a bunch of old theaters like on broadway steet. they can have signs like Now Showing: Frozen or Avengers or Dick Tracy or whatever. Using theater facades that arent tied directly to a movie allows the space to be flexible. You could put in new stuff every 5-10 years to coincide with a new movie release. PLus you could fit like 1 major e ticket MMRR style dark ride and 4-5 smaller ones

I know it highly unlikely...I really hope Disney would look into their older dead projects like Dick Tracy Crime Stoppers. That project would go perfect with Hollywoodland.
