I just went to a barber shop in La Jolla this afternoon where the door is locked and the front windows are covered in black curtains, and you go in thru the back door off a side alley and promise not to tell Sacramento that you got a haircut.

Maybe there's a way to get people into Disneyland off of Ball Road, instead of Harbor Blvd. and the main entrance?

If it helps any, I tipped the young barber $20 on a $25 haircut, so there's money to be made by running a speakeasy.

Judging by all the civilians in San Diego I've seen with fresh haircuts the past few weeks, there's a strong market.
You can access the parking structures from Ball Road for free...if you're a CM. ;)

I've heard about speakeasy style venues becoming a popular trend in recent times (not just actual Corona speakeasies but before that when bars and such were open) but there are none around me. I guess it makes sense since I'm in a suburban area and not in a big trendy city, I'm sure if I really went looking in Sacramento I could find something, but I don't think it'd be worth all that extra stress. Once things start to go back to normal I'm excited to actually go to a bar now that I'm 21. I was supposed to go with a friend on her 21st a few weeks after mine but with everything going on those plans didn't pan out. Maybe an actual speakeasy would be less crowded and make me more relaxed about it 🤣 .
I'm guessing you're near Sacramento? Though I no longer live there I grew near Sacramento and I have a lot of friends and family still there. I might have some suggestions.

If there is a single person out there that still believes he is "listening to the science," they should be committed to a home for the mentally insane. First he won't follow CDC's new guidelines, then he changes to this color coded system that ignores hospitalization data for the most part, despite the whole point of this having been to prevent overwhelming the hospitals and on top of that, he carefully crafts the numbers so that OC, which was off the watch list as of Sunday is now back in the "Purple Tier", essentially placing it back on the watch list for possibly another three weeks minimum and don't think it is a coincidence that OC votes against him or that this isn't political payback.

The one silver lining is Disney, Universal, Sea World, Legoland and Knott's are all pushing him to allow for theme park reopening and if he doesn't, well, they should check some political boards for options on what they could support that could fix it very quickly.
Relax. All California parks will be cleared to open in September.

If you understand science you would know that it always accepts new data and is always open to new conclusions based on new data.

Good point. Now that we know how not deadly this virus is and how many people are already immune, why can't we just admit we overreacted and go back to normal? We're still acting like this is some insanely deadly virus that we don't understand.

San Diego talk radio is now making fun of LA County (an old, classic rivalry) because a few hours after Governor Newsom said that all hair salons/barbers and indoor malls in the state could reopen for indoor operation, the LA County Department of Health issued a statement that said their county orders do NOT allow those businesses to reopen in LA County, and their current county orders overrule any new orders from Governor Newsom.

Los Angeles County is about the physical size of the state of Connecticut, has just over 10 Million residents, which is 25% of California's 40 Million population, and the most populous county in the nation. Apparently no one in Sacramento touched base with anyone in LA County, and neither the state's largest county nor the state's capital got their messaging coordinated before today's big announcement.

Can you imagine being the owner of a strip mall beauty parlor in Van Nuys? Or the property manager of a giant indoor mall in west LA? Or a guy with a two-chair barbershop in Whittier trying to make his September rent? It must be maddening to try and navigate this "official" information.

And regarding Disneyland and Universal Studios, here in SD we are still in the dark about Sea World and Legoland. Has there been any word from any media or newspapers up in LA or OC?

Any mention of... you know... Disneyland?!? 🧐

Come on man. Newsom made it very clear that the statewide restrictions were subject to stricter county and local restrictions. I'm sorry whatever radio stations you listen to omitted those facts.

Back in March we were looking at places like Italy and thinking the mortality rate was 9%. We had access to very few tests so we had no idea how deadly it was or how many people were really infected. We thought "we better close down for a few weeks and figure this out." Now we know the mortality rate is far under 1%. Why are we still acting like it's so much higher?
