For those who want to play the home version of this fun new game...

Orange County was taken off the old state "watch list" last week because we had much less than 100 daily new cases per 100,000 residents, and as of today Orange County conducted 7,092 tests today and with 323 positive cases out of those tests has about 32 cases per 100,000 residents. It's going to be a very, very long slog to get down to the new rule of 7 cases per 100,000.

Los Angeles County conducted 14,000 tests today and has about 165 cases per 100,000. LA County won't get to the red zone for months and months, maybe a year? Dog walkers might be allowed to resume modified operation by Christmas, but Universal Studios won't be open until 2022.

We just need to stop doing so many tests. OC with 3.2 Million people has done 625,000 tests, and LA County with 10 Million people has done 2.4 Million tests. The USA has already conducted over 80 Million tests as of today, with about 1 Million tests per day now being done in the US.

From the same fun folks in Sacramento that brought you the Color-Code Game, they've got new TV and radio spots out today. Talk radio is going off on this stuff here in San Diego, it's hysterical! And disturbing.

Ok, that's just cringe-worthy. Who exactly is that for? If you are someone that truly doesn't care about spreading the disease, is this supposed to change your mind? Did someone in Sacramento actually think people would take that nonsense seriously? Well.... I've been surprised by the public before, so.... 🤷‍♀️ Maybe they know something I don't.

That's exactly what the radio hosts are saying. Cringe-worthy is right.

I'm all for public service announcements and more open communication from Sacramento across this massive state of 40 Million people, but this... isn't it.

Such a rebel! Good on you!

San Diego talk radio is now making fun of LA County (an old, classic rivalry) because a few hours after Governor Newsom said that all hair salons/barbers and indoor malls in the state could reopen for indoor operation, the LA County Department of Health issued a statement that said their county orders do NOT allow those businesses to reopen in LA County, and their current county orders overrule any new orders from Governor Newsom.

Los Angeles County is about the physical size of the state of Connecticut, has just over 10 Million residents, which is 25% of California's 40 Million population, and the most populous county in the nation. Apparently no one in Sacramento touched base with anyone in LA County, and neither the state's largest county nor the state's capital got their messaging coordinated before today's big announcement.

Can you imagine being the owner of a strip mall beauty parlor in Van Nuys? Or the property manager of a giant indoor mall in west LA? Or a guy with a two-chair barbershop in Whittier trying to make his September rent? It must be maddening to try and navigate this "official" information.

And regarding Disneyland and Universal Studios, here in SD we are still in the dark about Sea World and Legoland. Has there been any word from any media or newspapers up in LA or OC?

Any mention of... you know... Disneyland?!? 🧐

They're still in their meeting. Here's a live shot of how it's going:

“Dynamic” discussions right here

I thought you were joking by calling it that, but then I just saw that's actually what Newsom said today about theme parks in his state. How does he learn to talk like that with a straight face? From the Union-Tribune...

"During the press conference, Governor Newsom confirmed that his office is in talks to discuss the reopening of the theme parks, as they are opting to set those businesses aside for a “dynamic conversation.” Theme parks were otherwise not mentioned in today’s update, but discussions are forthcoming, with a meeting on the docket this afternoon."

We're coming up on the 4 o'clock hour on a summer Friday. If a Governor Newsom aide or spokesman doesn't say something about California theme parks soon this afternoon, we may be on hold until next week.

I would be shocked if they let parks open. Everything else they said today was about making it harder for things to open in general. Don't expect parks to open until after the election. Also, the millions of Californians who already had the virus and are immune must continue to wear masks and stay home. Makes sense, right?

Honestly, I think you guys are being too negative. There were some very positive notes that came out of todays conference:

  • Infections are still high, but getting better every day.
  • More things in OC will be reopening soon.
  • Enforcement is increasing and working!
  • Wear a mask
  • Wash your hands
  • Keep calm and carry on.

The parks WILL reopen and we will get through this. All it takes is some respect for the situation and a little practice of that stoicism that your grandparents used to tell you about.

Both the CDC and Gavin Newsom are really confusing and I feel like are getting political. Why can't we just have medical doctors all agree on "This is what we need to do to get better". We are getting so many different opinions that are all over the place and changing. And there shouldn't be a separate timetable for theme parks and the local mom and shop businesses. This should all be science. Whatever applies to my local restaurant should apply to the Blue Bayou in Disneyland. If this all about the election coming up, shame on all of them and I wouldn't be able to trust any of them again.

Naw. This is ridiculous. We've played along with this game for nearly 6 months now. We've given up 6 months of our lives for a virus that has an extremely low mortality rate. It's time for people to take responsibility for themselves and to give people their freedom back. I've worn a mask this whole time. I won't do it anymore. I'm done. I'm certain that I already had this virus anyways. Why should I have to be treated like a leper?

Flu season is coming and people are going to conflate the two and things are only going to get worse before they get better. With these ridiculous guidelines Disneyland would be lucky to open by next Summer.
