btw, does anyone have memories of going to the tahitian terrace? did you order your food INSIDE this area?

Yes. It was a sit down restaurant with a Polynesian dinner show. Here's one version of the menu.

So, are you suggesting a dining option for the Tiki Room?
the permit does not reference any specific dining modifications. Modifying the wood deck (i'm assuming this is the area at the top of the stairs as you enter the tiki room), an extension with guardrails, remodel of restrooms, and the concrete ramp (presumably to replace the wheelchair lift as per darkbeer).

I presumed it was the western wooden exit area of the Tiki Room, and the steps that lead to the Jungle Cruise area.

No, specific dining modifications aren't mentioned, but why have dining conversion in the permit if nothing is to be done to those facilities? Anyway, I guess we'll find out soon what will happen; plan approval by the various city departments is scheduled for January 18.

i meant with respect to the wheelchair lift being replaced.

The lift is being removed. Instead wheelchairs will enter directly from the exit, and avoid the entrance plaza pre-show area, Right now, a wheelchair would have to enter through the entrance plaza, take the lift to the exit area, enter the show using the exit doors. Then after the show, take the lift to the entrance plaza, and then exit through the entrance turnstile area. This was tough to do, as it was like swimming upstream. Eliminating that will also allow others with mobility issues to avoid the stamps, use the ramp, and have a place to wait with easy access to the show room.

I wondered that myself, but thought maybe they had to as that is what the location was originally. A dining location. Perhaps that is still how the city views the area? Per the permits?

Possibly, but I've been tracking permits on this thread for a while now and if there are rules, rhymes or reasons for the descriptions Disney puts in a permit, I haven't figured it out.

And let's not forget Head Chef Indian Aramaki who held sway over Tahitian Terrace from 1964 to 1985 becoming Head Chef of Disneyland in 1966. Here's a link to D23's piece about him:

He was a real character. I remember everyone in the Plaza Inn kitchen being afraid of him when I worked the Plaza Terrace in 1973. The image of Indian brandashing a meat cleaver in your face to emphasize his point was known to happen. He was already a legend when he was inducted as a Disney Legend in 2005.

Sounds like an HR nightmare. If he did that today not only would he be immediately fired, there would be an Anaheim police car waiting for him at the exit after multiple employees pressed charges against him.

It definitely doesn't sound very "magical" unless your vision of Disney magic is being terrorized by your manager menacingly wielding a meat cleaver.

OAN sometimes I feel like the less I know about what goes on backstage at Disneyland the better.

Maybe Aladdin’s Oasis can become a Aloha Isle like at WDW moving Dole items and that queue from the entrance. Freeing up walkway space. Seems that would fit into the “unclog “ the walkways projects around the park??
