Disneyland Resort in 2017: Marvel TOT retheme in DCA, Fantasmic! 2.0

I've never even been to Disney World but I am upset about the possible loss of both their TOT and DLR's. Riding TOT in Florida was one of the biggest things I was looking forward to for when I finally go. A cheap re theme just to get Marvel into the parks ASAP is so lazy and shortsighted. I said this on Micechat and I'll say it here. If they go thru with this the execs are basically knowingly dumbing down a great attraction with beautiful build up and story telling for the IP that is hot ( kind of hot) right now. And only for some minor buzz and a few more dollars. I can't imagine that this will generate that much money for them. Especially with them probably going half @$$ on the facade/ queue changes to get this in the parks ASAP. The lines would be longer for a few months and then when people realize the only thing that changed is a ten second show scene featuring characters from GOTG the buzz will die.

Oh ya I know for a fact that this has a lot less to do with saving money on the Twilight zone licensing rights and a lot more to do with getting Marvel in NOW. Pressler, I mean Chapek, doesn't care if this is a bad move long term because history will show that under his reign he got Marvel into the parks efficiently (half ) and generated a little extra revenue short term.

The parks are jam packed full of people. DLR is not hurting for money. Don't destroy a modern classic for a cheap retheme. Do it right and build some proper Marvel attractions in the expansion pad and in the Hollywood backlot if you have to. Haven't they learned their lesson with DCA 1.0 on what happens when your cheap?

Disney has to remember what makes their parks so special is Nostalgia. They have to be careful to not turn into Universal and switch out rides every few years for the next hot IP. I understand they re needs to be a balance of classics with new and current stuff to say relevant but this isn't the way to go about it.

**** if these rumors are true

Will they take all the spookiness out of the ride? So a Marvel version of Tower of Terror, a cartoon version of Haunted Mansion. Will there be anything macabre left at Disneyland? What's next, Snow White?

How do you know that the redo will be "cheap"? Playing Devil's advocate, isn't it in Disney's long term best interest to leverage the IP it controls rather than licenses?

Removing TOT is almost like removing DHS's and DCA's Haunted Mansion. Eventually it would be revered In that sort of way, if not already, especially at DCA. Twighlight zone as an IP has stood the test of time.

I don't 100% but if what Spirit says is true they are trying to get this in the parks in under a year from the start of construction so you know what that means.

This is what I don't get. Why immediately go to this dark place where everything is going to be wrecked? What it means to me is that they have an aggressive timeline for redressing an already existing attraction. It could turn out horrible, or it could, you know, be spectacular, or something in between. We'll see.

I don't know if you're familiar with The Collector from GOTG, but if the ride really is based on this, it has the potential to be majorly creepy.

Because for me it is wrecked the second I hear they re getting rid of one of my favorite rides by trying to retheme a haunted hotel to a GOTG ride. What does GOTG have to do with a drop ride anyway? Sure, they ll come up with some BS backstory but cmon. This cheap and lazy and everyone knows it. The hotel works beautifully in its land and there's a great build up from the exterior to the lobby to the pre show to the ride. I think it's almost impossible to for a GOTG ride to be as effective when considering this will still be a drop ride and they have to work around the existing infrastructure.

All this so we can get a 10 second clip or two of the guardians! YAY

I find it weird that they would spend money to do this. However I'm not going to be upset if it is true. I do hope that Disney will put in a proper haunted house attraction in DCA. I think it would be great if we lost the TOT for a creepy version Mystic Manor in the SF area of the park.

I'll always have a soft spot for Tower because it's macabre. It definitely draws inspiration from Haunted Mansion with its ghastly decrepit cobwebbed interiors, doors similar to the ones in the corridor of doors, library pre-show in place of the stretching room and the ghost scene on the ride.

I agree, that partially why this overlay irks me so much. Its a shame they don't have many creepy properties that could take GOTG's place.

I'll admit this isn't my favorite idea either, but it seems a bit overkill to act as though, it's impossible to re-theme it to GOTG and come out with a quality attraction on the other end. I'm not very creative or an Imagineer, but I expect there could be some really, really good ideas put into place to make it really amazing.

I doubt anyone is worried about quality, although the execution of Launch Bay leaves a whole bunch to be desired. But quality isn't the principle of the matter. It's the fact that they want to not only re-theme a well-loved ride, but they they want to re-theme it to something that doesn't match the theme of the land the ride is placed in, at all, and it's all in the name of corporate greed and IP branding.

Seems like a giant waste of time and energy. DCA's Tower isn't nearly as good as the East Coast version, but I'd rather see them leave the thing alone and focus on new attractions. The ridiculous lines at Radiator Springs Racers seems to suggest a new people-eating attraction is in order.

Wouldn't overlaying Tower just make the current line for the ride longer? How does that help the park overall?
