True, but this still hasn't been announced, regardless. Plans could change. I'm pretty certain WestCOT was announced, and it doesn't exist.
IT EXISTS IN MY HEART

No longer paying to use the Twilight Zone name? Free promotion for their own IP instead? Not sure what they gain with a retheme. The ride is already extremely popular. It's not like its a walk on all the time. Why spend 30 million on a retheme and deal with the downtime for very little, if any, customer gain. It just doesn't seem like a smart business move.

Like the TWZ IP costs very much. I think the mouse can afford it.No longer paying to use the Twilight Zone name? Free promotion for their own IP instead?
Just like when they backtracked on replacing the Aladdin show with that crappy Toy Story musical.
Disneyland's show focuses more on the timeless classics. They threw Pocahontas into WDW's show because it was the hot thing at the time and now it just doesn't feel as "right", I guess. They need to focus more on the classics instead of the current trends, or at least there needs to be a balance.I agree, I feel like all the stuff they cram into the DHS Fantasmic! makes it feel cheaper. They need to be careful about how much they add to the Disneyland version IMO.
I'm seriously considering never paying to go there again if this happens.
Thank you.To be fair, that backtrack had nothing to do with fan outcry. If fan outcry could have kept Aladdin alive, it wouldn't have closed in January after thousands signed some mindless petition to keep that aging turd on the stage.
Toy Story was canceled because someone with a brain saw the show on DCL and realized it was a bigger flaming turd than Aladdin.
As a point of reference, I've been talking about Disney theme parks on the Internet since the alt.disney.disneyland days during the mid 1990's.
I'm not that worked up about this plan. I'll probably want to go on Tower of Terror one more time to see the original Twilight Zone pre-show and queue references, but then I'll be ready for a change. If they do this well and spend some money on it, this could be a nice improvement for a 12 year old ride that has kind of hokey technology by 2016 standards, let alone the standards of 2020 or beyond.
In general, us West Coasters aren't as foaming at the mouth mad as the East Coasters are over this plan.
A big part of that likely stems from the radically different park environments between DHS and DCA. At DHS, they are down to just five operating rides and a handful of tired stage shows and theaters from the 1990's, three of the five actual rides are E Tickets and Tower is arguably the best. At DCA, there are 21 rides and a similar collection of stage shows and theaters that keep getting plussed and refreshed or replaced entirely to keep up with the times. DCA truly sparkles in the 2010's. Of DCA's 21 rides, five of them are E Tickets, and Tower is middle of the pack at DCA (above Grizzly River Run, even though its lightyears better than Kali, tied with Soarin' and Screamin', and below Radiator Springs Racers).
At DHS Tower of Terror is a standout stellar E Ticket in a theme park that barely exists in its current format. At DCA, Tower of Terror is a fun E Ticket in a park with dozens of other fun things to do. And if refreshing Tower of Terror leads to a new Marvel land behind Tower with DCA's sixth E Ticket in the form of the "mega-coaster", then bring it on.
But I guess I'll kind of miss the Twilight Zone pre-show video with that signature music. No biggie though.
@WDW1974 dropped the bomb in his thread. I've been sitting on this for weeks and found it too unreal to believe, but it is indeed going forward.
Current plan is for TOT at DCA to close after Christmas for a full retheme to Guardians of the Galaxy, opening with the new movie in May.
I'm with you. I'd like to go on once more, and have my kids get the chance to ride it. They both like the Twilight Zone show oddly enough, lol. I'd miss the signature music too, but if we got the chance to experience it together, I think I'd be okay with this change.
MAYBE THEY'RE THE SAME PERSON!I just realized the funny timing of your thread here. You started it about an hour before Spirit started his thread that blew up the Internet this weekend. Too funny, but wanted you to know you get the credit in my book.
Yeah, but there is the second thing too. Free promotion for their own IP. I bet they're hoping to really launch GOTG as a big, long lasting IP.Like the TWZ IP costs very much. I think the mouse can afford it.

Because here, there's an amazing build up to this "elevator ride" that you Californians don't know. Everything about our version is superior and masterfully crafted. Here's a taste.Yeah, that's a fairly typical reaction as a West Coaster. But for the WDW fans this news seems to be a complete disaster that strikes at the very core of their fandom. Funny how they are so emotionally attached to that elevator ride back East, isn't it?
You're crazy. I like you.MAYBE THEY'RE THE SAME PERSON!

Or are many Disneyland fans are just willing to gush over anything with promises of expense and ornament? West coast complaints have long been more about cost than creativity.Yeah, that's a fairly typical reaction as a West Coaster.
