Disneyland officially reopening April 30th

I liked the Hong Kong Autopia as well. I actually rode it several times, but it just felt like it came waaaay too late and fortunately they agreed.

Since I'm one of the few people who hasn't had many issues with all the new additions happening I can honestly say I would have no issues knocking down the Autopia and Submarines for ANY of the new lands planned. Clearly all of them couldn't come to DL anyway, but I would be fine for pretty much any replacement. I know I'm going to say something that will probably get me banned here, but I would happily take any of the Frozen lands they are building in Hong Kong and Paris to take its place....and I never been in love with any of those movies!

But putting a Frozen land there would just be a no-brainer, although I would prefer just a bigger extension of TL as the most ideal of course.
I'm rather averse to putting Franchiseland into castle parks, tbh. Just something unsettling about seeing, say, Toy Story Lands in both the Chinese castle parks.

If they (apparently) can't get Star Wars Land, the biggest sure thing that's ever sure thinged, right, how can I trust them to do right by anything else they would conjure up?

Nooo, not Toy Story land lol! Those are horrible (although the one in DHS at least looks like a proper land).

And I like GE a lot actually, but yes it's not perfect either. They have plenty of time to add things in the future though. And for all the talk about how bad it is, Star Wars Nite back in February 2020 which was obviously suppose to take place in GE sold out in minutes. And it didn't even include ROTR. Too bad it never happened but I think WDW is doing one this year too.

But I was only giving an example. They can actually try and build something completely original like they HAVE done with Grizzly Gulch and Mystic Manor in Hong Kong. Those are both small areas but well done IMO. I'm just not as pessimistic about what they been building in the pass decade since I been to most of them (minus WDW) and liked pretty much all the new additions, DCA included obviously. I had planned to go to TDL last year to see what the new BATB area is like, but um, yeah. But I seen it on Youtube and looks really nice IMO.

And for the record, I'm not saying the Autopia or Subs are bad rides. In fact, my last visit to the park, we actually did both. But people have to admit they fit the theme today about as much as building a Star Trek ride does in Galaxy's Edge. It would just be nice to modernize the land as it was it meant to be.

frozen land would be cool, or BatB land....the main problem is simply space. The show building of a major ride would take up 1/2 the land itself with the way the monorail is. if they removed the monorail and relocated the maintanence building, they could use all that extra space for the show building and really have a large area left to build on and explore. You could have a large flushed out land but it would require major monorail work like creating a new station at the entrance plaza and relocating the maint building somewhere like paradise pier hotel parking lot or have it go north and somehow connect it to the giant parking structure...thatd be awesome to take monorail from parking to front entrance.

The subs fit the theme before they shoehorned Nemo into them, whether looking at Tomorrowland as a land of the future or a land on the move. Autopia certainly fits the latter, but it was also originally designed as something of a model of what the upcoming freeways would be like. Obviously not so notable now, but I think there's enough historical relevance that I'm willing to give it a pass.

I'm not sure that modern Disney is willing to do something completely original as they did in Hong Kong, and even if they were to do so, there's a flaw with those lands, in that there's still little in them other than the headliners they were built to support. I just don't have any faith in the modern WDC to exceed those areas in quantity or originality. Maybe I'm just a pessimist, but that's how I feel.

That's the other thing too-in a park as short on space as Disneyland is, it's just not a smart use of resources to do single IP lands. Better to use something versatile that could fit a greater variety of ideas within it.

What does everyone think 15% (or 25%) capacity feels like? I know there will probably be long lines due to distancing and ride capacities, but will it feel like a “normal” Disneyland day pre-COVID or will it feel emptier? I know we don’t know the exact capacity that DL usually hits pre-COVID, just wondering if I should even bother trying to get tickets. For me, it’ll probably be worth the effort and cost to walk around an “empty” park but probably not if it’s going to feel just as crowded as pre-COVID times but with less to do. How many times can I say pre-COVID 😂

It will likely feel a lot more empty in the larger spaces (Main Street) and walkways.

Over the weekend OC officially reached the metric for the Orange Tier. So if things hold for the next week I suspect that OC will move into the Orange Tier the first week in April.

So this means that Disneyland will more than likely reopen with at least 25% capacity, maybe even 35% if OC is lucky enough to move into the Yellow Tier.

I think that Nemo opens back up eventually...it may not be until late this year or next year though.

I'm not so sure. I always said that Nemo Subs' lifespan was about two years after Finding Nemo II (Finding Dory) came out. I don't see it reopening right away and I'm 50/50 as to whether it ever reopens. YMMV.

Disney's currently hiring for a Government Relations Manager in Anaheim. Talk about one heck of a role when Disney and the State Government aren't exactly on great terms...
As someone who has spent 10 years in state politics/Government Relations working at a Fortune 50 this may be my dream job. Sounds like a fun challenge to me. 😂

Part of me may have to apply for giggles.

I really do hope that the Subs return and are not permantly closed.

We no longer have Marty Sklar to lay down in the street on Harbor Blvd. to protest the possible closing now!

You'd better get the job at this point. You can't just tease something like that and now follow through. We have very few real Insiders here. It's mostly just Darkbeer posting OCR articles.

I went for it. But seeing as there’s over 100 applicants in just a few days I’ll say my odds are about as good Brer Rabbit seeing Disneyland’s 100th bday (too soon? 😉).

I believe LA hit that metric today as well so that means Universal could not open up with 25%
