From Micechat article:

“UPDATE: Disney followed up on Bob’s comments with an official statement: “Today’s guidance from the CDC allowing fully vaccinated individuals to remove masks and the removal of physical distancing requirements is extremely positive news and as soon as is practical we will implement updated guidelines across our businesses.”

Looks like I might be making reservations again sooner than later!! :)

It would certainly make you a better person. Or at least that's how the thinking went until about 10am Eastern time this morning.

It should be interesting to see how Red states like Florida and Blue states like California react. Governor DeSantis in Florida had already removed state mandates on masks, leaving private companies like Disney hanging out there to enforce their own rules.

But California still has a mask mandate in place, giving cover to places like Disneyland, although to be honest you only need to wear it to go inside stores here in OC.

I took a Lyft home in OC two days ago after a boozy dinner, and the driver said to me as soon as I got in "You can take your mask off sir, I don't care" and I promptly removed it. We ended up chatting the whole way home. Nice kid. He got a very healthy tip in cash and thanked me profusely

I’ve got it, with one simple adjustment she can go from fearing and judging people without masks, to fearing and judging people WITH masks. Those people are obviously not vaccinated by choice and are are evil, anti-vaxers. Judge away!

I imagine that's how it works inside Rachel's brain as well. It's fascinating, isn't it?!?

I just wonder how this info might change, as it was just posted yesterday. From a masked up while outdoors Tiffanie S.

We need to wear a minimum of 4 masks for the next decade and shut down the entire planet. How can we go on like this? There's just so much we don't know about this virus. Shut it down!

I watched a TV show tonight that interviewed very hip people in San Francisco who are better than you. One guy who was concerned over the CDC suddenly saying vaccinated people didn't have to wear masks said "I just worry about next winter with flu season, and people not putting on their masks to prevent flu deaths"

I laughed out loud! Suddenly, all the hipsters have just now discovered the Influenza virus that kills tens of thousands of Americans every year. Hi kids, welcome to life on planet Earth! 🥳

Photopass One Day? What’s that junk? What about us Maxpass ticket holders!?

Also, poor DCA. They showed a reservation calendar right in the video that only had DCA as a ticket option for the whole month of May :(

This was posted in a WDW thread, goes to the dilemma of what happens if you make a decision to allow vaccinated people to stop wearing masks. The honor system...that's going to be a cluster.

I don't know if that's going to fly with the labor unions or even Disney. The last thing they are going to want is to have Cast Members constantly asking people if they are vaccinated. That Hershey Park announcement just seems so awkward. I also can't imagine that Disney would like to face a situation where children still have to wear masks, but the 20-something vloggers and free and clear to film a new maskless video.

Maybe worth bringing up: The CalOSHA board isn't meeting until next week, so the earliest we can get any idea on updated employee guidance for California workers is after their meeting on the 20th.

I don't think it will fly either...just thought it was good context/comparison given the discussion we've been having about whether Disney will relax their mask rules in Anaheim. Not sure if it was mentioned here, but apparently WDW is reducing their social distancing to 3 feet and Chapek referenced the desire to remove mask mandates in Orlando by summer.

Yeah I saw the news from Chapek and the follow up statement. I think we all want the masks to go away, it's just a matter of figuring out the "when practical" part.

Another weird note: I just read that some of the Vegas casinos are dropping masks requirements for their employees, as long as the employee provides proof of vaccination. Just like the out-of-state visitor scenario we had awhile back, I don't think Disney will want to get into the "provide proof" game.

Don't also forget The Data.

I just finished watching Rachel Maddow interview the latest talking head from the CDC on this sudden flip-flop on mask wearing. It reminded me how miserable so many folks are, brittle tattle-tales who want the manager to know the lady over there is not a good person and she pushed her mask down below her nose. Rachel just couldn't give it up, she's afraid, she's worried, she wants to keep her mask on for all eternity.

Rachel Maddow apparently didn't graduate from high school. Or, if she did, her science class requirements were fudged.

In her defense, the swiftness with which CDC and DC talking heads have changed their tune has been neck-snapping!

On May 11th, Dr. Walensky testified before congress that rules that state vaccinated people should wear masks outdoors while on fishing boats off the coast of Alaska should remain in place. Alaska's senior senator shot back, “Tell me, tell me how anybody thinks this is a sane and sound policy to do,” Senator Murkowski said. “This absolutely is a crazy policy,” she added of vaccinated workers on fishing and crabbing boats having to wear masks outdoors.

On May 13th, Dr. Walensky went on Rachel Maddow's national TV program and said "vaccinated people don't needs masks indoors or outdoors".

Rachel Maddow wasn't impressed. She's still scared. She ended the segment with this...

"I feel like I'm going to have to rewire myself so that when I see somebody out in the world who is not wearing a mask, I don't instantly think 'you are a threat', or 'you are selfish' or 'you are a Covid denier and you definitely haven't been vaccinated'. I mean, we're going to have to rewire the way we look at each other." -Rachel Maddow, May 13th

My God. I love Rachel. But she's nuts. If she had been at some of the parties and social events here in OC for the last 10 months, her head would have exploded. How miserable it must be to live life like that, always ready to tattle and ask for the manager and judge.
In more defense of Rachel, her partner got COVID and was extremely ill. She's talked about how much it shook her. Not too surprising that she's hypersensitive on the mask issue

They might with CMs, not sure if the unions will have a problem with that. But could definitely be challenging when it comes to guests.

Quite honestly, I think a lot of people will be. It's going to be hard for some folks to understand that the goalposts have shifted due to vaccinations and not some arbitrary "masks are no longer needed" decision after being told for the last year plus how important masks were.

My buddy is a taxi driver in Vegas and from day one, has told his riders they can take their masks off if they want.

LOL. What a cluster.

The CDC jumped the gun, probably to try and entice the holdouts to get vaccinated, but that won’t work… and now it’s going to be the wild west of weirdos.
