Around the lobbies near the Convention Center wing of the hotel, there are several big displays of the hotel through its various stages of design and development from the 1950's through 1970's. They are really awesome to see.

They've cut some viewing holes in the construction fence in front of the hotel. And look what was back there this whole time!

There was a pool with fountains back there, hidden by all the overgrown shrubs and giant trees! Who knew? That thing probably hasn't seen the light of day since Jimmy Carter was in office. I hope they get it working again, and have some nice lighting on it. It looks like they are putting in new patios around it too.

And they've stripped off all the faux columns from that 1990's Contempo-Mickey remodel it all had. They are really going back to the elegant and modern look this hotel wing had when it opened in 1970. This could be very, very cool.

Such a huge improvement already.

Word on the street is that the Disneyland Hotel will have all of its rennovation completed by Thanksgiving, so were now in the home stretch.

Work on the E-Ticket pool continues.

Question because I've searched high & low for a definitive answer to no avail. Prior to the big reno DLH had that really neat looking Neverland pool. I've seen pics and video of the new Monorail slides and pool area. Then there's this E-Ticket pool which is what I think they're finishing behind where the monorail slides are. Yes? Did all this new stuff, the Monorail slides & E-Ticket pool, take the place of the Neverland pool complex or was it in addition to it? I'm trying to put all the geography together. You'll have to forgive me. I'm a visual-cue person. It's hard to picture the arrangement of everything from just the snapshots I've seen online. :wave:

Hopefully this will make since, but the Neverland pool is now the E-Ticket pool(same pool new theme and refurbished). The new D-Ticket pool and Monorail slides are built on what was grass and the Jungle Cruise boats.

Trangeroa Terrace and Trader Sams take place in the building that once housed, Hooks Pointe and Wine Cellar.

The former wall falls, koi ponds, Cove pool, are now landscaped areas, and a better( more direct)walkway to the Frontier Tower.

The Disney Parks Blog released this a while ago but it should provide a more visual look at the new pool, walkways, and overall.

I wish they'd kept the falls. I wouldn't want to make judgement without seeing it completed and in person, but I'm just not too crazy about the E Ticket/Monorail theming.

Thanks, nemofinder22! That totally answered my question and clarified. I think I was confused on the name similarity (D & E ticket pools). I thought I understood that the monorail slides and D-Ticket pool were new but couldn't remember what was going on with the old Neverland pool. I was thinking the D-Ticket was E-! Lol! Other than being free-form, I'm maybe confused or having a hard time visualizing what kind of theming perks a pool can have to make it worthy of the name "E-Ticket". Well, other than a lazy river or bubblies or a whirly-pool area, maybe a wave section, etc. Lol! The E-Ticket pool is not yet finished, right? Is there concept art for specific features that will be going in there? I love love love the look of the renovated rooms and all the changes. Haven't made it there just yet but I've watched the reno with interest because I think DLH will be our resort of choice when we finally do get out there (shooting for the week before Thanksgiving 2012). The refurbishment continues at the Disneyland Hotel. From the fantastic Dateline Disneyland at Miceage, comes these latest pics taken this past weekend.

Now nearly the entire front entrance into the lobby is walled off as they redo the entire area.

Behind the walls (that have a few little windows in them) they have ripped out all the pavement and ground surfaces and appear to be leveling the area for repavement and new sidewalks. This is a huge job!

They've also removed all of the contemporary 1990's Corporate Disney add-ons that were installed here 15 years ago. They are really going back to the clean mid-century modern roots this hotel has, and I won't miss the 1990's knick-knacks and gew-gaws and corporate Mickey silhouettes they slapped onto every chandelier and faux fixture.

Goodbye 1990's Korporate Kitsch, and hello 1960's Mid-Century Modern!

The pool area construction continues, and the old pavilion building that houses restaurants and conference rooms is nearing completion.

While work on the convention center building near the Fantasy Tower continues.

The E Ticket Pool is obviously not done, but some construction walls have come down near the Adventure Tower opening up the area to views.

The traffic cone is an elegant touch.

New directional signs have gone up around the hotel grounds, and in front of the Trader Sam's and Tangaroa Terrace complex. Which way to the bar?!?

They suspended most of the work at the Disneyland Hotel after Thanksgiving, to get them through the busy Christmas/New Years holiday without so much construction going on.

They still have a lot of details to install and tidy up with. Here's what it looks like as of early January, 2012...

Work ongoing at the Porte Cochere and main lobby in the Fantasy Tower. Still columns to install, and lots of work still needed on the ground surfaces. Al Lutz reported they would go in the first few weeks in January and acid-wash and color-treat the cement they poured in this area a month ago.

The main entrance to the hotel off the Porte Cochere is looking good, but you can still see there are plenty of details left to install in the next few weeks. You can also see that there is a reason why young girls were once taught that a lady never sits on the ground in public. :lookaroun

The entrance to the Adventure Tower has received a big mural from classic 1950's Imagineering artwork of Adventureland, plus carved maquettes in display cases based on the animatronic animals in Disneyland's world famous Jungle Cruise. A fun touch!

Out in front of the Frontier Tower, they have planted a floral Mickey, but this time he's wearing a Davy Crockett coonskin cap. Another fun touch! (It needs a few weeks to grow in, especially the coonskin cap part)

Al Lutz has a blurb up this weekend that the VP of the Disneyland Resort Hotels group is retiring, and being replaced by an exec from Disneyland Paris. From the front page of Miceage this weekend...

EDITOR’S NOTE 1/6-7: Tony Bruno, the widely respected VP of Anaheim's hotel operation, has announced he's retiring this April. When this leaked over Christmas, hotel managers were worried about the possibility of a dull Floridian being shipped out as a replacement. Instead, the job will go to Daniel Delcourt who trained in Europe and has been working at Disneyland Paris hotels for the last 15 years. While the hotel teams will miss Tony, they are breathing a sigh of relief over Daniel. | A reminder, the El Capitan Theatre is hosting a Richard Sherman tribute this Sunday. Hmm. I wonder how this will impact the three Disneyland Hotels?

I have my own opinion on service and profesionalism levels at the Disney Hotels in Anaheim vs. Orlando, but it does appear to be good news that this exec is trained in European hospitality schools and has worked in Paris for the last 15 years.

Al Lutz is reporting an animated "fun map" is also on the way to the Disneyland Hotel lobby.

One element from the Blue Sky Cellar that will expand to the other side of the Resort is the animated “fun map” of DCA. But the Resort’s second animated fun map will be a larger version that will take up residence as the big “Wow!” piece in the entrance to the Disneyland Hotel lobby. A massive animated map of Disneyland based off of the souvenir wall maps drawn by Disney Legend Sam McKim in the 1960’s will be installed at the hotel entry doors soon.

A landmark since 1955, the Disneyland Hotel has been a place where celebrities and dignitaries have flocked, and today we celebrate the completion of its largest renovation.

Finally!!! It's great to see this completed, and bringing the aging hotel into the 21st century.

More detailing and accesories still being applied inside and out at the Disneyland Hotel, and that Fun Map in the lobby has yet to appear.

But the original mid-century mod fountains that they uncovered from underneath the overgrown planters this past summer in front of the lobby have been painted, relamped with new LED fixtures, and turned on again.

They look great, and suddenly it's 1965 again!
