Oh, I so want into this group. After the fiasco that D23 is turning out to be (notice how I have kept out of the other discussions...I was just going to hack folks off), this is a must for me!!:D

Just a portion of the article-
Sadly, D23 seems like another Disney project that aims to give fans what Disney thinks they should want, rather than what fans really want. With so many high-quality fan sites available online, providing great information and community interaction for FREE, it's hard to see how D23 brings anything to the table.
:D
Another part-
Some fans are so turned off by D23 that they've formed their own anti-D23 fan organization, D64, which is FREE to join. You can even print out a silly (but FREE) membership certificate, suitable for framing. Of course, they do have merchandise you can buy. I have no connection with D64, but I think it's very funny!

How bizarre that folks are calling it a fiasco after 2 days.

Thanks but no thanks. I'd rather join D23, and after a year or so, we'll see who is more satisfied - the D23 members or the sour grapes folks who join D64.

I joined. I am part of a larger whole. A new cog in the D64 machine. (and it didn't cost a thing.) Thank you so much for having me.

Rest well, you will always come up 41 short of a 64...

Anyhoo, to parapharse Blazing Saddles...

"I think we're becoming a fast underground sensation in these parts!"

"Yeah, in a few years you may even be able to shake hands in broad daylight."

I get free admission to the parks and there are still many things that I am unsatisfied with. I couldn't imagine paying $75 for a club where nothing is really exclusive save for the overpriced merchandise.

To each their own, but I'll keep my $75 thanks:wave:

It just occurred to me that the 64 in our name might have some significance after all...1964 was the year Walt Disney bought the WDW Property. ;).

Dude, it is all about fun! I might end up joining D23 one day, but right now I don't really feel like it is worth $75. I'm not upset with Disney at all about forming D23, but the fact the fact remains that I am a huge Disney fan. I don't need D23 to prove it. That is what D64 is about. Now, if Disney guaranteed me that all the funds for D23 would go to...say an Imagination rehab, I would join in a flash. As it is, I see it as another money scheme.

Exactly, it just seems like a esoteric online mall for now.

The entire thing is hosted by www,Disneyshopping.com as an online catalog. That should tell people something right off the bat. It is for the fans alright, but not for the fans in the way we want with a thank you, but for overpriced merch they know some will spend money on, or try to even in these times. It is sick and some of the merchandise is laughable.

Also, 64 has a mention on www.awesomebadness.com as well as this site itself.

I wonder if there is an AP discount for joining D23? Since we AP holders used to get the Disney Magazine for free, I would be willing to pay maybe $40 a year for this "new" Disney Magazine, since it is on "glossy" (wasn't the old mag. "glossy"?) heavier stock and filled what we used to get for being "members".

I guess it's the old "Hook'em and Ream'em"
