Disney(World) vs. Disney(land)?

Does any of this much talked about change signal targeting any other demographic other than the toddler set? Or does TDO still think that ringing bells, squeak toys, spinners, cartoons on screens and only marketing to the stroller set is the way to go?
Have not seen many toddlers with smart phones. Pretty sure nextgen is targeted at an older demo.

That's just wrong. I knew there was a reason I didn't like the DIS....

Or you could try visiting Disneyland, which would have many more new things for you to experience than WDW since 2009.
They have better pixie dust to sniff, IMO.

Exactly what I said to my wife when I read that. We haven't been to WDW since 10/2010 and are going next week. Yet, I can't think of anything new additions.

On the other hand, we've been to Disneyland 3-4 times between the 2 Disney trips, and there have been significant additions each time. And that isn't including Carsland and Buena Vista Street. (Last visit was in May).

Yeah, it's pretty prevalent in the article, but some things match up more closely than others.

Yeah ... various posters.

So how could that timeline be accelerated? As discussed on the rumor segment of the DIS Unplugged, apparently Iger, affectionately referred to as “the weather man” by many in the fan community, has been in a feud with John Lasseter. ... Lasseter was upset at the marketing plan for the film John Carter, which was directed by his friend Andrew Stanton. When the film flopped due to his perception of sabotage, he threw a huge fit to oust Walt Disney Studios Chairman Rich Ross. He went so far as to threaten to leave the company if Ross was not immediately replaced, and sure enough, shortly after John Carter was released and flopped, Disney announced Ross’ replacement, Alan Horn, an outsider with a wealth of film experience.

JL is VERY unhappy with Bob Iger. He was trying to get Rich Ross removed for the better part of the past year because Ross was sabotaging his pal Andrew Stanton's film John Carter.

Iger rebuffed Lasseter at every turn until the movie flopped even more than Rich could have hoped. And JL did a bit of an end around Bob ... and said that if a certain incompetent never-held-a-job-in-the-film-industry wasn't replaced that he was gonna leave Disney immediately.

And lookee what happened? Faster than a WDW ticket price increase and social media whores defending them, TWDS brought in a very well respected and liked outsider.

Still, JL is furious with The Weatherman (and please don't tell me about their smiling pics together when Carsland debuts next week ... that is corporate spin and PR and means nothing) and since the latter has already made clear his intentions of leaving Disney (for political pastures where he'll fit in like all the rest of the cows), the former has made it known that sooner would be better and that if that isn't by the time Monsters U is out that he's gonna 'retire' up to run the vineyard with Nancy.

Oh, and then the article had this image.

Guess you haven't seen any of the interactive queues, the new double dumbo, Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom, Splash N Soak and on and on. And yes, I wouldn't be surprised to see Mom holding her smartphone is little Suzie's face to she can sing along to It's a Small World on the $5 app. Meanwhile Disneyland has a gorgeous free app that appeals to all ages.

Nice quiet rainy Saturday night here in (expletive deleted) paradise and I'm wondering if I've somehow missed anything in the 24-plus hours I've been away?:):D:cool:

Oh, it's coming...

YA THINK?!?!

But after I finish the pizza, I think I'm making a dessert run first ... just give me a hint ... was it anything I may have said picked up by another site and not credited to me? ... and was JT involved although being very, very slightly contrite? And were there questions asked that I may or may not be able to answer?

Back to the pizza ... mmmmmm ....

Disagree with you 100%.... Our family enjoyed the movie quite a lot...seems like a lot of people locally here that have mentioned the movie enjoyed it too....in SPITE of the horrible marketing it was a great movie.

I'm glad you guys liked it. I was bored, along with most movie critics. Anyway, I still love all of you. *smooch*

You are correct. I have not. Are interactive ques and themed fountains considered nextgen? If they are,, then Disney has more problems than just falling behind Uni as some indicate.

Sorry i took it wrong.

Anyway, I have my own strong opinions on the future of WDW that are sincere. Unfortunately they differ from the OP profoundly.

When I express this difference of opinion I am attacked by his followers. That is fine, I find it humorous and challanging.

Followers? If the Spirit has followers, then they are doing a crappy job of following ... they haven't booked my first class flight to LAX yet nor made sure Georgie K has me set me up in a suite at the Grand Cali. Hell, they haven't even engaged in the all-nude Saturday Night Pixie Dust Party via Skype (and presented by Skyy Vodka, the official vodka of the Spirit!)

But in the interest of world peace I will quit this thread. Then the folks who can't stand to hear a difference of opinion can sleep at night.

I'm gonna bet that once again, you didn't follow your own words. (of course, I sorta peeked ahead and know what's coming!)

You are welcome to stay ;) just make sure you agree with everything the OP says. And he will say it over and over and over again. So if that is your cup of tea you are in the right place.

If you believe I want everyone to agree with me, then you are more off than I ever thought (and, trust me, I've thought bad things for quite a while!) ... I just want to give folks as many facts as I can supplied with information from trusted sources and spinkled with lot of perspective and let them form their own opinions. I do have faith that most (not all to be sure) here are quite capable of that.

Oh, and I also want to make folks smile from time to time (when they aren't pulling their hair out, hair is VERY important to me!)

Why do I want to have some Earth, Wind and Fire "Let's Groove Tonight'' playing as I get into this one?

If RSR is cloned for DHS, but the rest of Carsland isn't, I wonder how that would affect the ride experience. I know with Potter, the ride is great on its own but the experience of the entire land makes the ride that much better.

I'd be concerned that TDO would say the rest of the land is expendable, that all they want is the popular E-ticket without any interest in how the E-ticket fits into the larger landscape. It's one of the reasons why I was never crazy about IJA being added to DHS.

(Speaking of IJA, maybe if RSR can't happen, TDO could press for Indy...they could at least catch up to DL on that E-ticket -- and Dinosaur doesn't count.)

This is what I worry about. The RSRs version I have been told that is desired here is part of a larger 'place-making'/extreme makeover deal and isn't another full-blown version of that beautiful little town off Route 66 in the heart of Carberator County. It's part of a multi-pronged attack that will include more entertainment, new parade, new shows and other new attractions (oh yeah, and the removal of the biggest eyesore at WDW today that isn't riding an ECV!)

There are things I am not privvy to. And others that I've been asked to not talk about, but Carsland isn't coming to WDW.

(Of course, if TDA has its way, neither is any version of RSRs)

BTW, I've been told for a decade plus that the reason Disney won't bring Indy to FL is because it believes it already has it at DAK (just a darker, lesser version with AA dinos that are broken). That's why I scoffed when first hearing that RSRs was on TDO's wish list because they have its much blander brother up the street in TT. But maybe Disney is following UNI's lead ... they have Spidey at IOA, but it's not preventing Transformers from sprouting up too.

Certainly was! Usenet and mailing lists where the good old days.

RADP was interesting.

And the unmoderated aspect, I actually enjoyed. ALthough I think people were nicer then too. The flame wars that break out here ... well, I don't recall them being as nasty even if some of the language was adult.

I kept a very low profile in those days ... I was more interested in what others had to say, to see if they started noticing things at WDW weren't quite the same. And to talk about rumours because we were in The Disney Decade and they always seemed to have something going on worth talking about.

The door coaster is also not something on the same plane as RSRs. So I hope that isn't the plan B haha

This is something that can easily be done because of all the plans. ... Of course, if they had wanted to be smart and timely, they'd have had it open just in time for Monsters U. ... They ain't UNI, so that can't and won't happen.

SOOO much work to be done at WDW. And so much procrastination.

It took The Disney Company over a billion dollars to fix one park in California. How much is it going to take to fix 4 parks and 1 Downtown Disney in Orlando if they keep putting this off?

You aren't even including the infrastructure that is rotting or the fact they basically have had no real transport plan in 15 years beyond 'let's buy another 25 buses' ... but that's just the thing, you have execs that really don't seem to care figuring the mess is so massive and pricey that they'll be long gone with their multi-million retirement packages to give two (expletives) what happens. ... And they aren't getting pushed by either their fans or a voice in the community (like Lutz in Anaheim) and the local media recycles press releases and calls it 'news'.

Fatality! That was a beat down the likes that have not been seen since Apollo Creed was destroyed by Ivan Drago! Even Thick James couldn't wave enough smelling salts to resurrect him. @Buried20KLeague that was epic...

Second best post of the MAGICal year here, and commenting on the best!

We need an awards show of our own here (Lee could provide the singing, any of the fanbois under 25 could dance in feathery things that would get wide attention in Glendale, maybe Don Rickles and I could co-host?) ... what would we call them?

I am more of a lurker than an actual poster but when I logged onto my computer this morning I saw on the DIS that they had a story about "big spirited change". It is just everything that Spirit has been saying here, but I thought it was interesting that they created a blog title using his tagline and information he has shared here.

Can I get paid for that?

(this is social media where you can steal whatever you want ... I think I'll go into business selling DVDs of WDW's parks and ... what? ... Really? ... For Years? .... And the legal eagles haven't been on his ?!?!? ... um ... nevermind)

BTW, have any of you paid attention to how many of the Disney Social Media Whores conduct themselves in the Twitverse? Doesn't Disney read these and think ... 'you know, it's great that Timmy Smith will say our toilet water tastes great if we give him a chance to stand close enough to smell Joe Rohde, but maybe the fact these folks come off as total psychos while discussing our products should give us some pause as to whether whatever gain they give to us is actually worth the fact they are flat out loons.''
