Disney World jabs in Shrek 4!

No, don't get me wrong, I like Universal too. I was simply pointing out that at one point, their marketing strategy was specifically about mocking Disney. The campaign annoyed me because they were basically lying.

"Our parks are open later!" ...except they never are.

"Our parks offer more new experiences than Disney parks!" ... except the amount of new experiences in the last decade Disney offered up to that point (I want to say around 2006-2007) surpassed Universal's new offerings. So Universal only had new experiences if you had never been there before.

Since then, they have changed their marketing from "more awesome and bad-a$$ than Disney" to "a unique alternative to Disney", which I can totally get behind.

Don't forget about Shrek the Musical.

What did he do? Burp the whole time? That's how the movie it, too. :hurl:

Actually, Shrek the musical is pretty damn good. I'm assuming you haven't heard the OCR.

It keeps the story and humour of the original Shrek film, and has some beautiful original songs (which I think is the key, if it had been a jukebox musical, it would have been dreadful), written by JEANINE TESORI who is nothing but a genius, having written 3 tony nominated scores. Oh and it also starred Sutton Foster as Fiona, and she is a delight.

Servo, you never answered the question about Dragon.
It's definitely worth a look and between it, Panda and the upcoming Guardians of Childhood, they're working towards making actually good stuff that doesn't rely on the popculture/fart joke formula of a lot of their other stuff.
This is just me, but I've never really been a big fan of Kung Fu Panda. It didn't seem to have much charm for me. But this is also coming form the guy who counted the explosions in Transformers 2 because he was so bored. (293, by the way)

Well, it's really "We have Harry Potter," which I can completely get behind. They got the contract, they deserve to gloat, especially if it's as cool as I'm hearing it is. Of course, I feel horrible for Guest Relations, who have been specifically trained by a HP geek so they can take the criticism of the fans that are sure to come rolling in.

Yup. Shrek wasn't half bad as a muscial, and actually starred John Tartaglia of Avenue Q and Johnny and the Sprites fame (and backup Elmo on Sesame Street) as Pinocchio so he could control all of the puppets in the show, including the humongous dragon.

the parks are only a VERY small fraction of being a TRUE Disney fan. Do you whistle "I'll always be Irish" when walking through the mall? Do you even know what movie that was from? Do you own a Mouseketeer shirt? Can you name all the original Mouseketeers? Do you still Mousercise to your old copies of the show on VHS? Have you met any Disney Legends? Do you have any favorites? Do you have a Herbie antenna ball? How many Disney records do you play for your kids? For yourself? Have you been to Club 33?

See, all of us have a unique set of Disney fandom traits that set us apart from everybody else on this board. Personally, I am a Disney music nut. A few notes from a Disney song in a movie or on a ride thrill me like nothing else. We won the Disney music contest at All-Star Music last trip and only missed the Cheatah Girls song. Guess what, we still tied another family because they didn't know the song from Pete's Dragon. Which family has better Disney fans ? Neither. We were just happy to be there.

I dunno, Darby oGill and the Little People? Just a guess. I cant believe anyone wouldnt know the song from Petes Dragon.

Because I can't be bothered to read the whole thread and because the film isn't out in the UK until July, can someone tell me....

Is the new film better than Shrek 3??!!! Please God I hope so.

Who knows but its not made buy Disney so the chances are any response you get will be to tell you if you watch it you will be enslaved by Satan, and deserve to be as you have failed the unquestioning brand loyalty test.

How anyone, besides a fan boy can say Shrek 3 is worse than Oliver or Home on the Range is beyond me. Must have had pixie dust in the air in the cinema, or TV

"I'll Always be Irish" is from The Happiest Millionaire. What song from Pete's Dragon is in the contest and what other questions are in it? I've never taken it.

Oh, and How to Train Your Dragon is great. Everybody who hasn't seen it should and in IMAX 3D if you still can. Better than The Princess and the Frog IMO.

I saw the fourth Shrek in 3D yesterday, and thought it was great fun. The highlights for me included a "Carriage Park" (Trailer Park) full of witches, Rumplestilskin, a Chuck E. Cheese style restaurant, obese Puss in Boots, a hidden village of ogres, and Donkey calling the Gingerbread Man "cracker."

I did not notice any jabs at Disney at all in this one.

Seeing movies in 3D is great, but since it costs more to watch, I'd love it if the theater would somehow force people to shut up when the film is playing.

 How dare a company advertise that (gasp!) it's better than one of its competitors!! Wow, you must get offended by a LOT of companies' advertisements!!

Shrek 2 > How to Train Your Dragon > Kung Fu Panda > Shrek 4 > Madagascar 2 > Shrek > Bee Movie > Monsters v Aliens > Over the Hedge > Happy Feet > Madagascar > Shrek 3 > Shark Tale > Antz

Based on replay value then quality of story. It may be a good story, but if you aren't willing to watch more than once, who cares? See Wall-E or Up. Great films, I just am not entertained to watch on multiple occasions. I would put both of thos films right aroud the first Madagascar movie on this list. Maybe Up a little higher.

They didn't make Happy Feet. (It's a horrible movie though, so I get the confusion. Zing!)

I think the problem with most Dreamworks movies is that they copy the same formula over and over again. They all have the same smart alec attitude, slightly mature humor, abundant pop culture references, overy-hyped celebrity voices, and a character must make the "Dreamworks face" in every film.

I think Shrek was a good idea.... for a single movie. They did great in the original, but now it's obvious they're milking the ogre's popularity.

The jokes have become less funny, the soul of the film is gone, the characters are completely played out, and it's taking the Disney vs Dreamworks debate into its movie.

That's lame. Keep the childish stuff out of the movie.

The original Shrek was rife with Disney jabs (especially Eisner) - almost the whole movie. Remember the zig-zag rope line that kicked over to get in something... and lots of other obvious references.

And while I am not a fan of Shrek in general, I do believe that the best form of flattery is imitation. And, within reason, it is good for a fan to laugh at a good joke every now and then, at the expense of the thing for which he is a fan, especially if the jokester really gets it!
