So I'm playing on Disney careers .com. Most if the jobs listed for wdw seem to be in food service, lots of entry level Jr pastry chefs. Starting pay is bouncing between 15.50-18.00
That's pretty consistent with the industry in other major cities.
There are a few p/t food positions at Hilton head starting at 16.80

What does a calculator have to do with anything? His point is that Chapek was fired and got $20 million as a constellation prize. If they can afford to do that, they can afford to pay their CMs more. Which is a fact, they can afford to.

And the lay don’t realize the difference between a one time cost and a recurring cost…

But that’s why it’s so cheap to tweet about other people’s expenses :)

That's $37k at $18/hr.

After normal deductions and assumption for a cheap healthcare plan for one, that's $500/wk.

If you're single and with roommates, you can do it fine. If you've got a family, you're not doing fine.

CM jobs aren’t unskilled and I’m so sick of people saying that

What prior experience and specific job training did that person need to be qualified?

That’s why it’s qualified as such

‘Its hard’
‘You need to deal with customers’
‘You have a lot of responsibility’

These do not make it ‘skilled labor’

Sorry you feel offended- but that’s tough. The job qualifications are what they are.

Does Senator Sanders not have a calculator? Or do Socialists just not believe in racist math any longer?

There are 50,000 hourly CM's working right now at WDW. If you divided up the $20 Million contract payout to Bob Chapek by the 50,000 WDW CM's working for an hourly wage, it would come to $400 per CM, or about $8 per week.

If you add in the 25,000 hourly CM's working right now at Disneyland (and they suffered more because Bob Chapek was just up the freeway and would visit their property more often), that payout per CM would be $266 per year, or about $5 per week for every CM.

I mean, Bob Chapek was a horrible CEO and is clearly a charmless idiot that was in way over his head, but I still wouldn't take an extra $5 a week to put up with him.
I have grave issues with Sen. Sanders’ views on the economy. Just adding this to show the visibility has been ratcheted up a few degrees.

I’ve worked a customer service job outside of Disney and then at Disney. They are vastly different. I brought this up pages ago, but this post reeks of the “get a real job” mentality that service workers have faced for decades. Who would work at the theme parks? Only 18 year olds? Only 20 years olds? Etc Also outside of people on a CP I feel as though I’ve never really seen many cast members under 30
and yes we have all agreed that it is a "real" job but please stop with this nonsense that every job is equal and everyone no matter what they do should be able to live a "comfortable" style of life.
THAT HAS NEVER BEEN THE CASE and it will never ever be. We (as in society) have assigned "value" to jobs. Yes some jobs we said (again the we is general society) are entry level, lowest paid positions. I respect the youngins that I come across in food service, I lived in NJ, I still love the fact that they have gas station attendants but I also try to be truthfully and realistic to them. I worked Mcdonald's and I don't care if you work there 80 hours a week, financially it's going to be a struggle and no I donot think Mcdonalds owes you a higher salary.

I've never been a cast member in the parks, I have worked amusement parks in my youth. I guess the difference for me is I never expected coney island or 6 flags to be a long term career because everyone I knew recognized they were lousy pay.

My fast food jobs when I was a young gun at Taco Bell we got tired of the food also. Certain shift mgrs got creative and traded food with the other food options down the street. It was a variety for us. Thankfully our district mgr didn't find out. Who knew that the infamous and discontinued Choco Taco dessert was going to be worth something. One guy was selling one frozen one for $10K.

I worked at a Ponderosa and got a discount on the buffet. Kinda nice to have options.

oh absolutely MKT, but that is the industry norm. so at what point does a person see "okay hon if I stay at this job forever we're going to be struggling"? and make some changes. again Jobs are assigned value by "us" society. most companies are going to pay what is known as industry standards, no matter how rich the company is. Yes it would be nice if every job in the country had a take home pay of 2 grand a month. It would be great if rents were not out of control

If employees were being paid enough for basics (i.e. rent, food, clothing) why would Disney be building affordable housing for their employees?
What affordable housing? You mean the CP/ICP apts in Winter Garden? There is a low income apt complex ( not Disney ) behind MK off of Reams Rd but the waiting list to get an apt is very long.

Using "the norm" sounds nice, but we're also talking about a housing market currently facing both a major shortage and a line of higher-wage remote workers from out-of-state trying to get in.

For local earners, metro Orlando is one of the most unaffordable housing markets there is.

I believe you could, and I believe (aside from the oil embargo) life was better in 1975.

You just made the case for CMs today. Today CMs cannot do these things on their salaries.
can any of us? In 1975 I could afford and did live in NYC, heck that ship left 30 years ago. lol I'm still mad at how crazy and outta control rents and home cost have gotten. I miss living in the city.
