Disney Visa Card

Every couple weeks I receive a solicitation to sign up for a Disney Visa Card. I am curious as to whether it has any benefits/perks beyond the measly one dollar for every one hundred spent. Is this a worthwhile card to have?

Thanks for your help.

To me it's totally worth it. There are quite a few discounts available. I had $300 the last time I went to Disneyland and that was with having the card less than a year.

It's definitely worth it for us too-I know 1 point per $100 spent doesn't seem like a ton but it really does add up especially if you use it as your primary method of payment like I do. It's some nice bonus money for our trips.
You can get discounts off of many tours-like we saved 20% off our upcoming Segway tour and it was helpful!!
There are a bunch of other perks too-check them out on the card website b

I agree...I use the card to purchase my vacation and they offer 6 months no interest when you do that. Not only do you rack up points but you can pay off your trip in 6 months with no interest. The tour discount is great as well.

It's definitely worth it if you pay it off every month. Those that don't pay it off monthly get frustrated with the rather high interest rate.

Also, if you have an AP, you get the same merchandise and tour discounts as you do with the card, so keep that in mind.

The Visa discounts are higher than the AP discounts. An AP nets you a 14% discount on tours. The Disney Visa nets you 20%.

The only reason we got on was because they were running a special where you received a 250.00 Disney Redemption card when you made your first purchase on the card....so yeah that was worth it.

When we go down in the summer I always have anywhere from $150-400 reward dollars to spend. Thats just saving for a year. Pay off balance monthly and use it for everything..shopping, gas, clothes, everything. Really adds up and is a bonus on trip!!

As far as rewards go - %1 back is nothing special, there are better cards out there - but many have annual fees..

The Disny card is a free card, and there are other perks to having it.

If your credit rating can handle it, there is no downside to having it - even if you don't use it for purchases because you have a better rewards card.

There are also different random promotions throughout the year-like earn 3X or 5X the points if you spend $500, $750, etc on groceries, gas, travel, etc. It changes each time but if you use your Disney card for those purchases it can add up quickly for extra points.

Where can you sign up for these promotions? I didn't know the Disney card had something like this.

Depending on your spending habits I'm sure that there could be a better rewards card out there. There's so many loopholes to every one and some put caps on rewards or expire8 it can be a ueadache actually trying to figure out which ones are best. But this is an easy way to save up specifically for a disney trip (or something Disney related). My rewards are like free spending money on my vacation. Other people use them to pay for their tickets or hotel. It adds up a lot faster than you think if you use it regularly. I use this card and my DiscoverMore card on all of my purhases, and I pay them both off every month (discover gives me 5% cash back on certain categories that change throughout the year, so I use that for those categories and the disney one for everything else). I'm going to be spending the money anyway so why not use my credit cards and get a little extra out of it.

As others have said, 1%, while measely, does add up after a while, if you are wise about it. By wise, I mean, use it to pay for everything that you can use a card for, while at the same time, not going out and buying a bunch of silly things that you wouldn't otherwise buy, just because you have a credit card. For me, putting everything possible on the card is beneficial for two reasons: 1) It puts everything on one bill that I can pay off with one check, as opposed to a million entries in the checkbook, having to remember to dig receipts out of my pocket at the end of the day, to write in the checkbook (if I used my debit card), etc. 2) Those normal expenditures do add up after a while. When you start to figure up the cost of filling up your gastank, getting groceries, paying doctor bills, etc, you can easily rack up at least 10 points a month. That sill might not sound like much but even 10 dollars a month adds up to 120 dollars a year to use on a future trip for souvenier money, tickets, or whatever.

Charge your trips to the card, and you get a whole bunch of points right there. Our April 2011 trip came up to around $4800 dollars, which I put on the card, so 48 points right there. Then, there is the cost of our Universal tickets, preordering the photopass CD/photobook, and all the spending we will do on the trip itself (gas on the way down, hotel on the way down and back, food, souveniers, etc). My points don't start expiring until 2015, so I plan to accumulate points until 2013, and hopefully I will have enough by then to pay for all of our tickets for our 2013 trip.

Again, I do emphasize using it on your normal spending. I am not one who believes in going out and charging stuff just because you have a card. But things like gas, groceries and the like, you're paying for those no matter what, whether you put it on the card or writing a check. But those points will add up fast if you realize how much you spend on different budget items in each month.

It is a great card to have, especially if you go to Disney often. Just before our trip this past Dec. they offered 3x the points on plane tickets. That was a perk. So we now have those points to put toward our next trip. We usually get the rewards card and use the points on just about anything at WDW. In Dec. we used it for food, clothes, gifts...you name it. It is like extra spending money on our trip. We love the 6 month interest free when you use the card to pay for your trip. We also take advantage of the private meet and greet and free photo. It also offers you a 10% discount, if you ask for it, at just about every Disney owned store in the parks too. It is great that the points don't expire for about 5 years. We can't go every year as we would like. Our plan now is to go back Dec. 2013 when all of the construction is done. We should have a ton of points by then. As everyone else has said....use it for everything and pay it off each month so you can do it again! It really adds up!

Here is one way to get a lot of points - buy your DVC membership with the card, then pay it off. :)

You don't sign up for the 2X, 3X or 5X programs (I have never seen a 4X). They send you a card in the mail, and you go online and 'activate' it.

As others have said, they deal changes each time. They have me pegged pretty good. I spend about $400 month on groceries. I get the 3X if you spend more than $500 quite a bit. Same goes for the other deals. They put them JUST over my normal spending threshold.

I will say it is one of the easiest cards to claim your rewards from that I have ever seen. Go on line, click around a bit, and a debit card comes in the mail. Once you have that card, you can just call the 800 number to add more points to it if you want.

The current promotion can earn for you an additional $100 reward dollars, but the amount you have to spend differs from account to account.

I have a card for each of my daughters. They need to spend over $800 to earn the 3x.
My mom has a card and only needed to spend over $300.
I had to top $3000 before getting the bonus.

No problem, though, because the promotion hit right when 2 college tuitions had to be paid for the Spring semester.

We normally put food, gas, phone, oil, cable, insurance, tuition, and just about everything else on the Disney card. The rewards pay for a good percentage of our food bills on our Summer WDW vacation.

As others have said, it's a waste if you don't pay the card off each month.

So sad. My school won't take Visa or Amex. My two favorite vacation cards. We've only purchased 1 ticket and use miles for 14 the last 5 trips so Amex is good for us. Even with the annual fee... those are cheap tickets. I use my DV when they don't take Amex.
