A legitimate critique of a character in a fictional story you had noting to do with creating is picking on you?

No, it's just juvenile. You know there are fans of the series on here, so just let it be. It's just where people differ I suppose. If there was a thread on here discussing Lady Gaga, I'd state my opinion (maybe), but I'd leave it at that. People like what they like, and if they like talking about it, great. I'll just mind my own business. Plenty of people think all of us are lame for being such Disney die-hards, and if they came on here trashing Disney, I'd think they were being juvenile as well. Instead, they just keep to themselves.

One's person's trash is another's treasure.

So me saying I do not like something you like is now juvenile? I don't like ketchup. Does that make me juvenile as well because other people on this forum like ketchup?

If you don't see a difference between making a one-off comment about a specific food you don't like, and trashing movies/music/books that people like over and over, then there's no reason to discuss it further. We just see things differently. I don't know too many people who get defensive about the foods they like. I know a lot of people who get defensive about the movies, music or sports teams, etc they like.

Trashing something you do not like is fine. Trashing a person for liking it is not. I have trashed sparkly vampires not you.

So, let me ask you this:

You're walking through the Magic Kingdom and you see someone wearing a Twilight t-shirt, and you walk by that person and say "Hey - Twilight sucks."

You don't think that is the action of a er?

No. However, if that person were in a discussion forum talking about Twilight being integrated into a place I frequented, I would have no issue telling them that I do not enjoy Twilight.

If you do not like opinions that differ from your own I would suggest not spending time on a discussion forum.

Fair enough. Not possible for you to just say "Nope - Horrible idea", and leave it at that as opposed to continuing to make fun of it over and over?

No. Laughing at the tears of the sun-deprived Twilight devotee in the wake of that line may qualify though.....

I have no problems with opinions that differ from my own. I have a problem with people who clearly get off on trashing something over and over again with no thought about the fact that they may be insulting others.

We get it. You don't like Twilight. You made that perfectly clear. What is the point (other than to tick people off or show off) of continuing to post pictures and insults towards it? I'm being serious. I just don't get it.

Let me say, this really has nothing to do with Twilight per say. As I said, I think it's a terrible idea to integrate it into a Disney park as well. I think the fad will be dead in a matter of years.

I disliked the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I found them incredibly boring and too long. If someone posted on here asking for opinions as to whether or not it would be a good idea to integrate it into Disney, I would say no. However, I'd leave it at that. If people started trashing it left and right, I'd be arguing the same points. I just don't see why people get joy doing that type of thing.

Whatever. If we all thought the same, it's be a pretty boring world. It takes all kinds to make the world go round.

Trashing something you don't like does not mean you are trashing a human being. If I say "I don't like Country Bear Jamboree" (true), I'm not saying "People who like CBJ are stupid." If I say "I find the bears to be outdated and annoying", I'm not saying "I find the people who visit this attraction to be outdated and annoying."

CaptainKidd - I think you're being too sensitive. Just because people don't like Twilight doesn't mean they don't like you. Just because they trash it - doesn't mean they're trashing you.

I love "Its a Small World." Do you know how many people on this site can't stand that ride? I listen to the song on my iPod. I love it. Do you know how many people on here say "That is the most annoying song in the world?" Do I take offense to that? Of course not! To each their own! Just because I like something doesn't mean everyone else does or should for that matter.

Let others have their opinions. You can't argue with others over their opinions.

"Nope horrible idea" is not exactly the best discussion. "Nope, Horrible idea. The story is horribly written and the main character is so unlikable and devoid of any redeeming quality and is not worthy of an attraction in any Disney park" is.

I have no problems with opinions that differ from my own. I have a problem with people who clearly get off on trashing something over and over again with no thought about the fact that they may be insulting others.
I go out of my way to be kind and sensitive to everyone around me but if you can not hear criticism about something you are a fan of, there is nothing I can do to help you. I could care less if someone hates everything about Star Wars. I do not see it as a personal attack because it is not.

I get what you're saying. I'm simply saying there's a fine line between stating your opinion and being mean.

This is DEFINITELY a sensitive subject for me. Not Twilight. I honestly could care less about that. I guess I'd prefer to live in a world where someone can like something without others having to crap all over it.

Some might be sensitive about SouthWest Airlines. Others over staying at Deluxe Resorts at WDW. That doesn't stop certain people from spreading their b#ll#ck-laden opinions against them here either.

But then again, opinions are what a discussion forum is for.....

True story (and will explain a lot of my feelings on this issue):

When I was about 10 or 11 I was at the mall with my father and sister. As you can see by my avatar, I'm a big Bon Jovi fan. Have been for a long time. Anyways, I was wearing this jean jacket that had a Bon Jovi patch on the back of it. You remember the type, people wore them all the time in 80's, jackets with their favorite group on it. As we're walking through the mall, these 2 or 3 teenage girls start screaming "BON JOVI SUCKS, BON JOVI IS GAY", and some other stuff I can't repeat here. It was the most embarrassing moment of my entire life. From that day, I just never understood why people had to be so mean.

So yeah, I'm over sensitive to stuff like this. I sure as heck don't want my kids harassed at school because of a band they like or a team they support.

Anyone can like anything they want - if they crap all over the subject...they're not crapping on you! (crapping on you...ha:lookaroun)

The fine line here is that people are stating their opinions about a book/movie series. NOT about the people who read/watch them. And no one said anything about the fans of the series. Therefore - no line has been crossed.

The world where everyone likes the same things does not exist. There will always be people who hate things. ALL things. People hate Disney, Star Wars, Harry Potter, LoTR and many other popular things. But the point of a discussion forum is to discuss the different views and opinions of others - whether positive or negative. That is the point of the boards. So if you're looking to find people to never voice their negative opinions - a discussion forum is not the place.

Nice story. I have been through many things like that myself. You can't show up in a mall in the redneck part of town dressed as a borg without a not so nice comment or two thrown your way. But this is a completely different situation.

To take it to extremes it is like comparing 2nd degree murder and self defense. In both situations a person is dead in the heat of the moment but one is right and the other is wrong. Discussing your criticisms of a particular movie in a discussion forum is right. Grabbing some random kid with a Twilight shirt on in a mall and screaming him down is not.

Nice story? Hardly. That scarred me for life!

That being said, you make a very valid point.
