Disney Twighlight

I read the Twilight novels and I've seen all of the movies to date. I liked it enough to do that and I will see the following movies. I can definitely understand a lot of the criticisms. For one thing, I can't stand Bella. ha! But you could say that a lot of the Disney stories are teaching bad values, etc.

So, I guess I do qualify as a Twilight fan. I own the books and at least one of the DVDs. I do NOT think a Twilight park is a good idea for several reasons

1) It doesn't have the visual appeal that a series like Harry Potter does. Harry Potter has so many icons that are amazing to see in person, Hogwarts Castle, the Hogwarts Express, Hogsmeade, etc etc. It has so many recognizable symbols like wands, broomsticks, and butterbeer. Twilight really doesn't have that. Let's face it, forks isn't that interesting. I'm sure you could make some kind of attraction based on it, but there's no focal point and there's no real draw. People DREAM of visiting a Princess' castle or read the books and imagined what it might be like to see Hogsmeade. Not so for Forks, WA, and if they have, they can just go to the REAL Forks. What is there in a pretend Forks for the non super fan? Even a casual fan of HP, Disney, or yes, Avatar, can appreciate the beauty of their immersive worlds.

2) I think the popularity of Twilight is going to decline. Yes, it's popular now, but once the movies are over I don't think it will have the same staying power as Disney and HP. I can't wait to show my kids my Disney DVDs and my Harry Potter books. Generations of children will be introduced to these. I'm not convinced that Twilight will really last. I don't think my 7 year old niece will eventually read about Bella, but she definitely knows Disney princesses from decades ago and I'm sure she will see a Harry Potter movie or read a Harry Potter book. Whatever the relative quality of Twilight may be (and I will argue that it is far below both Disney films and Harry Potter), I just don't think it has the staying power of the other two.

3) I think the general feeling about Twilight, that it's only for girls, that people make fun of it, etc would also be a problem. How would they market it in order to get adults and teenage boys to set foot in it? As you can see above, people would encounter derision. I think this is stronger than any for Disney or HArry Potter, but I could be wrong.

From what I got from Twilight was how important it was for a girl to have a boyfriend. Not something I consider Disney Parks -esque.

How many of the Disney princesses were saved or had their lives changed simply by the "true love" of someone they barely know?

I don't think this is the compelling argument against Twilight. It's because the stories aren't as enduring

People say that about Disney too. (Not that I'm arguing in favor of any Twilight attraction, I think that's an awful idea. I think Twilight is awful.)

Exactly. I agree, Twilight is not a good fit for ANY theme park, but this reasoning that people keep bringing up is an argument why Disney SHOULD do something with Twilight.

Tiana was following her and her father's dream of owning a restaurant and Naveen just happened to show up. Rapunzel wanted to be free and see the lanterns and Flynn just happened to show up also.

Bella moved to a new town and pretty much said she wanted sparkly glittery boy.

You're right, it's the story.

What about Ariel? Or Cinderella? Or Snow White? Or Sleeping Beauty?

I think it's more with Twilight. Disney has more general appeal. Mickey Mouse appeals to everyone, most of the Pixar films have elements that are specifically geared for boys.

Twilight is VERY good at what it is. A version of p*rn for teenage girls.

So me saying I do not like something you like is now juvenile? I don't like ketchup. Does that make me juvenile as well because other people on this forum like ketchup?

I have nothing to add to this discussion but I just wanted to say I don't like ketchup either!

I get what you're saying. I'm simply saying there's a fine line between stating your opinion and being mean.

This is DEFINITELY a sensitive subject for me. Not Twilight. I honestly could care less about that. I guess I'd prefer to live in a world where someone can like something without others having to crap all over it.

People "crap all over" everything here! If that bothers you I don't know how you can stand to hang around this forum!?! People "crap all over" the stuff I like all the time around here. Cars - I thought it was a quality Pixar movie. The Seas with Nemo and Friends - great attraction, saved the pavillion. Pooh's Playful Spot (RIP) - was an excellent themed little play area for kids to burn off some steam. And I could go on...

(BTW, I've never read or seen the Twilight series!)

So we could have a theme park ride where there is a couple who stretches out second base for two movies making even Lucy and Desi look like Charlie Sheen?

- Wanted to get away from her father
- Wanted to get away from the nightmare of the step mom and sisters
- Had to get away from the evil queen
- Had to get away from Maleficent

Point being, they're all fairy tales about a girl finding the man of her dreams. You could argue that Bella is trying to get away from James, Victoria, and the Volturi.
