Disney to Reveal Ambitious Star Wars Plans

That would be awesome. R2-D2 and, even better, Chopper from Star Wars Rebels, because he's the BOMB.

^^^^ THIS ^^^^

Snark aside this is EXACTLY the kind of stuff WDW could do if they wanted to NOW, It would enthrall the guests and not cost much. Yet WDW keeps cutting and pushing cardboard Olaf's... The only conclusion I have ever been able to make is disney just does not care about pleasing the guest anymore it's all about Wall St.

I've been lurking on these forums for awhile, and would like to weigh in on "ambitious" plans for Star Wars at the Disney Parks. Since I live in Florida, I'm most concerned about plans at WDW. With Star Tours, it is easy to envision a greatly expanded "Star Wars Land" at DHS.

I hope that Imagineers might consider a NEW Star Wars-themed luxury hotel at WDW. DHS is the only one of the four parks that does not currently have a luxury hotel associated with it. I could see a variety of designs from which to choose, including Naboo architecture to a "City in the Clouds." It looks like there is plenty of land for such a hotel on the west side of World Drive (opposite the Earful Tower). The hotel could then be connected to DHS via a People Mover themed to Star Wars (and that People Mover could later be extended west toward Animal Kingdom to provide alternative transport between parks).

An adult-intergalactic-beverage cantina at such a hotel would be a great late night spot, versus within a park that often closes by 7 p.m. I'm hoping that Disney Imagineers are reading this and that their design ideas are going wild.

What do others think?

When you say it doesn't have a luxury hotel, that's not entirely true, as the Swan & Dolphin hotels are practically right next door.

Furthermore, I think Star Wars might be too pop culture-y to properly fit a deluxe hotel atmosphere.

Oh man this would be beyond awesome. Chopper in my book has been the overlooked character from that show. The one they have parading around SWW looks great! I heard it was built by one of the master droid builders from the droid builders club.

So basically the tease from D23 about Star Wars could really just be a tease for a new gift shop or quick serve restaurant...Where are we getting the whole "Ambitious Plans" thing? Does anyone actually know anything beyond speculations and what we would like them to build?

That could very well be. Disneys idea of "ambitious" has been a few notches below what most others would be. My fear is we actually get "ambitious plans" and then due to cuts we end up with something like new fantasyland. I don't think anyone will really know anything (even once they announce it) until everything is built and the land is open.

While no definitive plans have been announced as of yet, I think it's safe to say that SW will have a much bigger presence in the parks. I'd bet on it. Will it live up to what we have already built up in our minds? Maybe. Maybe not. Something SW is coming. And that is all I care about for now.

Now, who's in for renaming and re-theming one of the All-Star resorts to an All-Star Wars resort! :D

I am down with renaming one of those All-Star resorts into a Star Wars themed resort. Lets do it!

It seems all too simple, but I'm probably wrong. :) Star Wars will include a major redo of a large portion of DHS, include an E and a D ticket plus some smaller rides and shows, and will be located so as to include Star Tours.

Star Wars is the big play at DHS because they can't use Marvel. Marvel is the big play at DCA or a 3rd gate in California because they can. Right now they are using sparse funds to maximum effect. 3rd track TSMM, 3rd theater Soarin, and the chunk of money at Pandora. They have too much capital tied up in Shanghai right now, but I'd expect the investments to flow once that project launches. Disney's recent experience with DCA will prevent them from going overboard with too much value engineering.

Am I missing anything? :)

How dare you be logical and fair-minded. And the optimism and non-Iger bashing in your post...well...it's just too much!

The unofficial guide to Disneyland's author claims that Luigi's Tire's is closing to make way for a Cars version of Autopia. Leaving the original Autopia area to be a Star Wars expansion. Sounds kind of familiar to Back Lot Tour's sudden closure.
