Disney to Reveal Ambitious Star Wars Plans

But is it any more fair to now say 'it was just meant to be nice'. Thats awfully deceptive and only reaffirms that people should now have the "wait and see" attitude because Disney obviously has no problems with advertising one product and delivering another. Again, not arguing, just asking.
It was never meant to be "nice". Disney billed it as a major expansion through media, in park advertising, every channel they could. When you describe it by saying "the biggest expansion in magic kingdom history." that adds a certain expectation in my eyes. This should be exactly why everyone should have a wait and see attitude about anything in the pipeline. While from what has been shown of Avatar it looks very cool, so did NFL, so there is no way I can go all in at this point.

Look at it this way. If New Fantasyland wasn't supposed to be a big deal, then what was? New Fantasyland is the ONLY thing WDW has had since Expedition Everest that even pretended to be a big deal. That's nearly a decade during which Disney was supposedly setting its sites on "nice".

I really don't know which is worse. If NFL was supposed to be great and fell short or the idea that Disney doesn't even attempt to be great anymore. I'm thinking the latter is worse and probably more accurate.

Why should they when WDW in its current condition is a license to print money, It's why american business is tanking with rare exceptions no one even tries any longer just make a pile of cash for the occupants of the E-Suite and to h--- with the customers and employees.

Fantasyland lost Snow White and gained Beast Castle, Mermaid Ride, Seven Dwarves, and Storytime with Belle. Not to mention increased capacity and better placement thematically for Dumbo(the indoor play area is a godsend)!

I dont understand the comparison between Snow White and Beast Castle? One is an attraction you ride while the other is a forced perspective object you can only look at. Storytime with Belle is an attraction seriously aimed at children. The only enjoyment I would get from it is watching grown adults put a cheap cardboard cut out over their face while convincing themselves that Disney really did a good job with this. 7DMT? Nice, but short, definitely not worth the 4 years it took to design and build it. Mermaid? Clone, nothing new. Increased capacity? Yes, they added that. Dont get me wrong, we enjoy NFL, but I get more excited for so many other things at MK before NFL even crosses my mind.

You forgot NFL being the worlds largest stroller parking lot...

This exactly... Disney in the last decade has been over promising and under delivering... Watch the Disney World preview channel next time you stay at the resort...they show Rock and Rollercoaster having full dimensional sets (DRIVE THROUGH DONUT) when it is actually just flats...and settings from Phantom Manor as if they are in Disney World's Haunted Mansion... I guess no one notices...

My prediction is, whatever Disney does with Star Wars, it will not be as good as anything Uni does to at least one person. Also, at least one person will absolutely say it is the best thing since sliced bread. Furthermore, at least one person will be on the fence about it.

Well there you have it....

Again....

Net gain 1. (although it's a M&G)

Mermaid = 20,000 leagues under the sea. (closed in 1994 for refurbishment lagoon removed 10 years later.)
Skyway to Tomorrowland = "Tangled" bathrooms...(Not an attraction just a location. There were bathrooms there before.)
Beast Castle = Restaurant
Snow White = Seven Dwarves Line Train (fewer AAs to repair and minimal show scenes to dust.)
Storytime with Belle = "The" net gain attraction although it's really a dressed up meet and greet.
Double Dumbo = Dumbo with 1 more spinner for increased carnival fun.

Meet/Greets, Bathrooms, and Restaurants are not attractions. FastPass+ kiosk queues, ATMs, and charging stations are not attractions. In the not so old days, there were far more walk around characters to meet and greet. If we start calling M&Gs attractions, then Disney owes us many more attractions to make up for fewer characters in the parks.

NFL was a let down and wasted opportunity. Disney (WDI) can do amazing things. (Mystic Manor on YouTube to see it.) I am hoping for Mystic Manor/ Carsland for Avatar/StarWarsLand but I am expecting to be disappointed. We need to stop propping up a "good enough" product with undeserved praise. I will be thrilled to be overwhelmed by the greatness of StarWarsLand and will happily eat my words if I am wrong at expecting an underwhelming performance.

I'm constantly amazed when I see photos like this with a person in it for scale - the castle looks larger WITH a person next to it than it does without. Somehow, through all the work they did in designing Be Our Guest, the achieved effect is that the Beast's Castle is made to look SMALLER than it is in reality. Forced perspective, when used properly, can amplify minimal resources in an amazing way, and yet here the impact of this apparently large structure is totally diminished. What a bizarre mishandling of an effect Disney's been using for decades.

It looks like they know it, too - the drawing of Tokyo Disney's forthcoming New Fantasyland seems to indicate they've reconsidered the design in it's next incarnation. I'd love to see them rework the Florida version one day. It has the potential to be magnificent and just completely misses the mark.
