Do you really think people will be hanging around Cotino in July and August?
Of course, that is why TWDC is moving ahead with that project and many more to follow. Options are better than a winter at the Jersey shore , even though the food is delicious in NJ/NY . I laugh when some pizza places in FL advertise as NY Style. That's why the furthest DVC resort north of FL is in SC.

To be fair to Disney, the entire Coachella Valley from Palm Springs to Rancho Mirage to La Quinta is nothing but these types of sprawling master planned HOA communities full of manmade lakes and lush green landscaping and endless golf courses in the middle of a scorching dessert.

The water comes in via the California aquaduct and the Colorado River from the mountains to the north and east. It's been like this for 75 years now.

The Coachella Valley where this Disney community will be built goes on like this for 20 miles, where there should only be sand and tumbleweeds and a dying cactus or two. Thanks for the water, Rocky Mountains!

OK! With the current climatic situation, the source of all this water is drying up. Decisions are and will continue to be made for the use of the diminishing water sources. In short nature will win and these communities will be wind swept, dry dessert, sand and dust covered (with an occasional tumble weed) areas that just happen to have the remnants of some nice homes.

this reminds me of the tragic 'store within a store' Disney initiatives with retailers lately...
In what way? No personal experience. But, the Margaritaville concept in Florida appears to be managed well; their external presentation is very nice. Wouldn't expect anything less from TDO.

Now, the Disney Store in Target.... Wow, what a mess. But, I think that's an issue with Target management rather than TDO.

It exemplifies the issue that when you just hand off a concept but rely on others to maintain and execute it… you generally go downhill from the original pitch.

I wonder if each house or village will get its own wdi backstory… or if they will keep that for the village+ streets

Good questions.... will they take the Celebration direction, eventually turning things over to the residents or the Golden Oaks direction with much higher involvement? Will be interesting to follow!

Any community that calls invokes the name Disney better have some innovative transportation system BUILT IN - if it doesn't... screw it, it's just a name tag! No peoplemover or equivalent... no bueno!
But bet on the recreational facilities with Disney Magic to be more upscale and luxurious compared to what's at WDW resorts and golf locations. I'm thinking Rancho Mirage CA will be a winner followed by a number of more storyliving locations in the pipeline to be built as Disney is forecasting. Residents don't want a people mover, their version is their own personalized golf cart to get around the property with ease ( ie the Villages ). Even the residents get inventive and have a golf cart parade decked out to their imagination. BTW, the regular golf cart parade at Fort Wilderness with guests and cast participating is amazing.

Since subdivisions were conceived back when GIs were returning home from WWII, they have always been presented as a Utopia (not Autopia) of perfect living with a peaceful and safe way of life (Like Lyon Estates in Back to the Future) BORING!!!!! The perception of the perfect neighborhood with perfect neighbors exists nowhere and this philosophy simply sells that notion of escapism where you tune out from everything. Just watch the TV series "The prisoner" with Patrick McGoohan https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Prisoner
You can't escape life, you have to live it.
Now if you want to live the Stepford Wives lives where "Just a Spoonful of Sugar" whispers from every speaker on the street 24-7, then this is just for you, just watch your husbands!
Experimental COMMUNITY of Tomorrow. What happened to that?

I agree it will sell. The planned community concepts have had some failures and successes, but the homes sell and that is what the real estate industry wants. The Disney "Magic" nah it will just be another planned community with a Disney label, maybe a few stickers and signs. Ultimately the residents will make the community whatever it ends up being. As for Disney, the company will divest itself of anything to do with the community once any financial gain, that can be achieved, to the company is reached. Business is business.

The homes are owned by the homeowners.
There was faulty construction by at least one builder of homes. There are still pending law suits. Condos built later have had many complaints by owners Town Center was especially hit hard when Disney sold out bc new scam owners ignored original construction issues & they worsened. As someone who considered Celebration as a dream come true when we retired (ended up 15 minutes away; went often; had neighbors who moved out) the biggest heartbreak was all the original owners who bought a Disney dream & were broken-hearted when Disney pulled out.

One of the problems incurred is that Disney sold it as a "Disney-Community" but found out shortly that like every community people have various wants & needs. Then, Celebration school system learned they legally had to accept students from the local school district-they could not be autonomous. THAT really upset many, thinking their kids were going to attend private-type "Disney" schools.
People who bought the 'dream' realized too late that 'community' is not something that can be manufactured.

I wish only good things for those who remain. Hope the new StoryLiving communities are treated better. Google still has some older articles about Disney selling & condition of Town Center, etc... I had kept this one about some of the construction issues.

Walt (Yes. I'm referring to the dead guy) introduced his plans for the E xperimental P rototype C ommunity 0f T omorrow & everyone watched it on our TVs. It was very exciting to imagine a well-run, smart community designed with the future in mind- a place to live & work in a CLEAN HEALTHY environment. A "Transit Authority" similar to People-Mover connected everything. Growing up in a less-than-perfect city, it seemed heavenly. The Jetsons would have loved it too.
I still regret how little his plans were followed.
Someone said here not to speak for a dead man. Those of us alive when he was, who continued to study his approach to celebrating the future, can very much envision what he would do now.

When the house bubble bursts, which is not far off the horizon, an the housing market crashes this, will be another epic disaster, a la starcruiser. I'm betting by the time this 'community' is ready, interest rates will be back up, because current inflation. Disney is gonna lose millions. Corporate executive buffon's only seeing $$$ lowing hang fruit anyone could see, not seeing the big picture. Universal is investing massively to take Disney's attendance away. What do Disney executives do? More expensive Celebration 2.0, in less than decade, I'm predicting Universal will have #1 attendance.
