Disney to announce overhaul of DL Tomorrowland at D23?

The Peoplemover isn't futuristic and that money could be better spent on something that would really blow our socks off.
The peoplemover adds kinetic energy and ties the land together. It’s also a a ride with no height requirement that families can enjoy together.

The idea that Disney shouldn’t build something because the money is better spent elsewhere is silly to me. Especially at a property that just spent how much to retheme tower of terror and paradise pier?

I've come to a realization: that for all of the complaining about Tomorrowland over the years, I'm not 100% convinced that the land is broken on any level other than aesthetics, and even then it's not as bad as people make it seem.
I think what really makes TL feel "broken" is the lack of kinetic energy that it used to have. TL was an exciting place (especially at night!) with everything above you moving. Now it's a bunch of large static buildings and one spinner.

I think that's why so many of us want the PeopleMover back. If they brought SOMETHING back that moved over head, that would help tremendously. The magic of rockets flying in the air, the PM gliding along above you, the speedramps to Space Mountain, and then the TL stage popping up for a show was just so cool. That's the feeling we want back. I don't really care how they do it, but if they could create that energy of a land ALIVE with movement, it would be a winner.

The concept art for the new TL entrance should tell us everything we need to know how about extensive their plans are or were for the land. The fact that Astro Orbitor is still in the hub tells me everything I need to know. Especially when you consider the great lengths they’ve been going through to clear up congestion in the walkways. There’s no bigger path clogger than the Astro Orbitor and yet it’s in the concept art.

It's "broken" because:

1) The land USED to have twice as many attractions as it does now.
2) The remnants of dead attractions are there just wasting away, for all to see.
3) The look and feel of the land is disjointed, without a coherent vision.

Solving #3 would be nice, but I can accept that even if it does happen, it might not be in a style I prefer. So that's a gamble. It also would probably just need refreshing again in 20 years. Solving #2 would go a long way to helping the land FEEL healthy again, even if it doesn't doesn't actually reach the heights of solving #1.

Agreed. My "large static buildings" should have really read: Large, empty buildings".

I still contend that if they just added ONE thing that moved overhead, the land would feel more like its former self.

Every time I have been there in the last 5 years, it's been completely slam packed, and not just because of the congestion issues. They're doing something right.

Well, sure. Space Mountain and Star Tours are beloved attractions. And the Astro Orbitor & Autopia are fun for kids. I'm not one of the "TL is terrible" camp, but I do get a little sad when I compare today's TL to what it was. There's so much potential and space to make it great again.

Wait.... Make TL Great Again? Do we need MTGA hats? LOL 🤣 We could make them match the the Hive of Miserable B*st*rds club jackets! 🤣

Taking at face value the notion that the People Mover path is too dilapidated to support a ride, I wouldn't mind seeing some kind of lighting package along the track. Specifically at the avenue coming off of the hub. I seem to recall that they did something like this during the Season Of The Force event. Admittedly it wouldn't be as great as what has come before, but it would help add visual interest at night and at least justify the track's continued existence.

I miss the live shows, that's for sure :(

The Peoplemover kind of sucked in reality. I've ridden it hundreds of times. Something better could be put in and still add kinetic energy and have no height requirement. I would rather have the money go to a replacement.

I agree. They should replace it with some kind of more modern vehicle ride. A little more speed and a few more thrills, still using the same tracks and everything, so it shouldn't cost as much. Give it a "Rocket" theme/name and it will be perfect for a newly imagined Tomorrowland.

You're right that it's not nearly as bad as you'd think just perusing your average Disney message board, and it's probably a stretch to call it "broken." But, there's a huge amount of empty space and it's generally an incoherent mish-mash between its original conception and what the idiots behind TL 98 tried to do.

I think it naturally draws a lot of criticism because it seems like the most obvious candidate for investment, yet there's been next to nothing done with it for decades.

I love this post so much.

I hate to be pessimistic about a TL retheme, but what else can I think when their idea of a good TL is Hyperspace and Pizza Planet?

Do you think the Disneyland railroad and riverboat suck?

I'd be more willing to chalk up the Peoplemover praise to nostalgia if the still-operating WDW Peoplemover weren't so delightful. Maybe it's not the be-all-end-all of Imagineering or the thing that would save Disneyland's Tomorrowland, but it would undoubtedly add so, so much to the land.

Exactly - the WDW peoplemover is so much fun. I actually think everyland should have slow moving attractions that add kinetic energy to the land. (Main Street vehicles and red car trolley are great examples).
