Disney Survey on implementing a $15 resort fee

I have been a DVC member since 2009. The changes over the past year and the implementation of a resort fee are making me consider other vacation options. I don't use children's services, occasionally use Magic Express (we need a car to visit relatives), we have many magic bands we can reuse, and don't need parking at the parks. I don't use photopass.

The perks they are asking about charging "extra" for are the reason for staying on Disney property to start with. I own Disney stock and think this is a bad idea. I hate fees. Renting a car is the worst. I'd rather just pay one set price and be done with it.

Also we only use the room to sleep in. The only perk we use is riding the bus to Magic Kingdom only and booking dining reservations 180 days out.

1. The refillable cup RFID
2. MM+
3. Categorized annual pass and day tickets
4. Entertainment cuts all over the resort
5. Significant price increases
6. Devalue on everything else
7. A possible $15/night resort fee - yes this happen guys!

Things are really starting to look bad here. I love disney but at some point something has got to give. But the reality, people will still gladly fill up the parks. Perhaps they are trying to price out the general american population from staying on property but that seems to contradict everything that disney has been in a great position of marketing.

I figure if they get enough negative survey responses about the $15 fee then we will soon to see a blanket increase of $15 on Resort stays per night. So tell me which is worse? :)

I think they will implement regardless. It will likely rollout or test at the premium resorts first. Those people will not care about a $15 / night. The problem will be moderate and value.

You know what's funny?
I don't like this...but I am surprised they haven't done this already. If their current prices are not the straw that broke the camel's back, this won't be either.

But we would get so much we didn't have before with this new resort fee. haha

Okay so are they insinuating that you won't receive the "perks" included in the resort fee if you choose to opt out? Or if you're not staying in a Deluxe, you won't have any of these or would have to pay extra? I can't imagine they suddenly determining that people will have to begin paying for Magical Express, new MagicBands, Priority FastPass+ reservations, Wi-Fi, Extra Magic Hours, AND resort/theme park parking while staying at a Disney resort. This is a pretty scary survey...

After many Disney only, onsite trips, we are considering staying a couple of nights at Universal in addition to our next Disney trip. The thing that I can't quite digest is the parking fee for on-site guests at Uni. It seems absurd to me.
Now hearing this bit of news about Disney, makes me seriously consider finding a new vaca destination. Sure $15 isn't a ton of money but there is no added value. Paying for something that was previously included just seems greedy on Disneys part. The annual ticket price increases alone is rough.

Resort fees are not just a way to show a lower price then increase it by adding the fee. It is also a way to avoid taxes. If room price is increased then the hotel has to pay the state and county bed taxes on that total (well over 10%). However, it is my understanding that resort fees are taxed at only the state sales tax of 6% with the possible 1% county option (not applicable in Orange county.) The Florida attorney general is looking into resort fees but so far nothing has been done. I have not a fan at all of Pam Bondi but if she will actually do something about these rip-off fees then maybe I will reconsider my opinion of her.

For those staying off-site, clearly you are saving money even with the resort fees. However, to the person who booked at Wyndham Bonnet Creek, you will be paying for the room, plus a $25 resort fee per night, plus $20 parking fee per night, plus $20 per day park parking fee (unless you are an AP holder) so your savings may only be an illusion.

So let me get this straight. I have been an AP holder for many years now. The increase for my "level" of AP went up. So for me and the amount that I go to the parks. It just about equals out to what I was paying in parking. So, free parking was not a bonus for me. Now they are going to charge 15 per night for parking when I currently get it for free, I never use Magical Express bus as I am 2 hrs away local. hmmm. Sounds like my overnight stays just increased too, with no extra benefit. or is that being double charged for the same items. I can't remember. Must be nice to charge guests twice for the same thing. Wish I could do that with my clients. :cautious:  :banghead:  :grumpy: there are not enough emoji faces to describe this "change".
