Disney Survey on implementing a $15 resort fee

Presumably this is being instituted as a result of guest demand.

I wonder if DVC members staying on points will have to pay this fee in cash on top. That would not make me a happy camper.
Most likely not-most of those things are baked in the dues.

I just received a survey from Disney basically asking how I would feel about a $15 resort fee. They put this in a question that basically said that if you booked a room at a deluxe resort for $350 per night and there was a $15 resort fee for Magical Express, Wifi, Children's activities, and a few other things I cannot remember, how likely would you be to stay at this resort. Another question asked if I was aware that there were resort fees at other non Disney resorts. It then asked how I felt about those resorts. It then asked how I would feel about Disney if they implemented a resort fee.

So it looks like Disney is looking into the resort fee gravy train. Once this below the line pricing starts, who knows how far it will go. I think that CET in Vegas has a $35/Night resort fee. You used to get 2 bottles of water for your fee, but they took that away.
Oh boy, let's see...we don't use Magical Express, don't really need WiFi, and we have no kids. This should be fun.

Great info-thanks for posting. Unfortunately it'll likely happen. As another poster said, why wouldn't they just kind of push the prices up or lump this in with little explaination? Or are they required to inform guests and can't just hike the price??

I can't help but think that if they raised the price by $15, either nobody would notice or if they did they'd just think it was a minor price hike. Disney would collect the extra $15 from everyone, whether or not they need or use those services.

But by explicitly listing it as a second line item, suddenly it feels like a money grab and breaks some of the "Disney magic" (where the "magic" is that they've hidden such prices up until now). And, if you're not using those things, then you can opt-out...so Disney may not grab as much money as they would have if they'd have just raised the base price by $15.

In that sense, I favor the second line item as it's more transparent and I can opt-out if I want to. But I'm also fine with them just bumping up the price, as I'm likely to take advantage of it anyway and psychologically, it *feels* like I'm getting a lot of amenities without paying any more.

To sum it up, I'm kinda surprised that Disney would even think of making such a move as there's more money to be made in just hiding the extra cost.

If I understand the total price, it makes no difference to me if they raise rooms prices or tack on a fee. (But if course they will do both!) Kind of like when shopping on Amazon, you need to compare prices with tax (some vendors make you pay, others not) and shipping costs.

Of course it is totally a money grab and really below what disney should be doing. Which means they are sure to institute it! :(

You think you'd be able to opt out? I doubt it!

You might be right. But then there's the argument for hiding it in the "base price". Disney can either raise the price by $15 to cover those things or they can be transparent about it and say it's a resort fee that you can't opt out of. The former probably wouldn't gather much attention or have any discernible impact on guest experience. The latter would be noticed as one less thing you're getting for free.

So again...if the financial impact is the same for both Disney and the guests, why bring the details to the guests' attention? It's not like your resort bill includes line items for laundering the sheets or toilet paper, although certainly a fraction of what you pay goes to cover those things.

Monkey see, monkey do.

I surprised resort fees do not exist already.

I am going to compare to Universal again. Do they charge resort fees? I always thought their $20 per day parking fee was a bit absurd.

Holy Carp! I thought these "resort fees" were included in the rate we pay at Disney Resort vs an offsite resort. How I would feel about paying it? Ripped Off to the nth degree.

If this happens staying at disney is no longer a possibility. As it stands, the value resorts are no longer value and the value season is no more. I have said this before and will say it again, all of these budget cuts and severe increases are thanks to MM+.

As my good friend Inspector Kemp would say "A riot is an ugly thing. And I think it is just about time that we had one."

Until these changes cause a measurable impact on attendance and occupancy rates, expect to see more of them. My wife says they're just catching up with DLR. But it's still insult added to injury. Doing this, they can still raise room rates on a regular schedule.

I'm glad I made our reservations a while back but this is pretty much the proverbial straw/camel's back scenario for us. Shoot, we're just doing a few days this year winding after EBPC (instead of just getting off the boat and running to the airport). We will say goodbye, keep our 20 year's of memories, and not look back.

I am trying to budget a trip for 2018. I have five options. This will put Disney Value and Moderate out of the equation and off site and staying at Cabana Bay in for budget purposes. Rental car and parking are factored into the equations. If they charge a resort fee similar to the parking fee, why wouldn't you stay off site?

ETA: I have already modified ticket prices. My best options change daily based on WDW changes. I am a DIS stockholder with a position in my self directed IRA. I am about ready to sell all my stock, stay off site, and purchase my tickets with any discount I can get. I'm Mad as H E double hockey sticks and I'm not going to take it anymore.

Really DIS, you have record profits, record stock buybacks, and you want to do this to your guests?

Check out all the threads related to cutbacks here. We, the US population have to pay for international bungles.
