Disney Springs construction begins

I don't see why there should be - to be honest like I said they definitely want(ed) a store in Central London - if Disney were to pay up initial costs and sales were constant with low rates I think there would be a good chance.
They could also have nintendo try a swing at fixing DisneyQuest.

Oops. I totally forgot about DisneyQuest. Guess they aren't going to bring in a competitor like Nintendo. There goes that idea.
Why not read the contract?

It's 60 miles.
I haven't read the contract, but does it prohibit anyone from selling Marvel merchandise within 60 miles? For instance can they sell Marvel figures at World of Disney or if the local Orlando mall has a Disney Store or even a Target or Walmart are they prohibited from selling Marvel merchandise too? If so, that sucks for anyone living within 60 miles of Universal. If not they could just open a generic comic book themed store that happens to sell Marvel goods along with DC or other comic merchandise, but not specifically a Marvel store. I would assume they would be restricted from having people dressed as characters in the store since that must be in the contract, but it seems like it would be a possible loophole just to get the merchandise in a store.

I don't think that TDO is really concerned about selling Marvel merchandise. It would really seem like a cheap shot at Universal. There is a lot to be said about public goodwill.

It's a specific limitation regarding Marvel itself.

So they don't sell Marvel merchandise at WDW? I thought my son got an Avengers t-shirt on our trip last year, but maybe he got it when we were at the beach before we stopped in Orlando.

I'm glad you posted that.....I highlighted some applicable restrictions:

i. The Marvel Action Universe will not be within any theme park, nor marketed in conjunction with any theme park. For purposes of these restrictions, an area of 10 acres or less will not be deemed a theme park. An area in excess of 10 acres may or may not be deemed a theme park based on its overall characteristics.
18

Thanks. I think this clears it up. So this definitely prohibits Marvel and now Disney from opening what they refer to as a "Marvel Action Universe" within 60 miles of Universal. I guess at the time this was signed Marvel's potential plan was to open a series of these stores. I assume this would limit Disney from opening a Marvel Store. I'm still not sure it prohibits them from selling Marvel merchandise.

Merchandise is already sold at Walt Disney World. Just can't be a big, grand, dedicated Marvel store.

Back to buses...
Take Boardwalk bus then walk into DHS and Epcot
Take Contemporary then walk over to MK
Take AK bus then bus to AK

As for vendors 5 Guys would be good.
As for competing business what is the difference from the Dino restaurant and Rainforest nothing. So Nintendo may work if it is properly placed with different activities. Cheesecake Factory would be a great addition with a little more adult type atmosphere versus RF and Dino and an option to others.
Marvel WDW will do whatever they can to ensure they will make their dollars on the commitment.

Well, Rainforest and T-Rex are both owned by Landry's, so they are not really competing per se.

I don't think that a Nintendo World would be too much of a competition issue for Mitsukoshi, Nintendo is only a small part of the merchandise carried by Mitsukoshi and they'd be located quite a ways from each other (one being in a ticketed park, one in the "free" Downtown Disney). It'd be a great addition!

Not necessarily. They outsourced operation of the golf courses to Arnold Palmer and almost all of DTD's current dining options are third party. I think a Nintendo/Disney redo of DisneyQuest would do quite well. Someone has to bring that facility out of the 90's...

(Regarding CityWalk) The downside is a lack of space to expand, but if you are diligent with maximizing space you could fit some more stuff or replace less popular locations as trends change.

There are actually 2 large club spaces within the existing CityWalk that are unused or used for storage. These could easily be converted to new nightclubs. One space is between Pat O'Brien's and Fat Tuesday/The Groove and the other space is across the aisle from Bob Marley's.

I predict CityWalk will be replaced by a resort someday.

That won't happen. CityWalk is a cash cow. The profits Universal was making from CityWalk were funneled to purchase the rights to and construct the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. It continues to fund other projects in their theme parks. It's why there have been few improvements in CityWalk itself because the money was (and largely still is) going elsewhere. Ironically, the closing of Pleasure Island and the sending of Disney guests over to CityWalk for nightlife led to Harry Potter which is pulling guests to Universal's theme parks. So no, CityWalk is not going anywhere and as long as Disney doesn't want to compete for the adult nightlife business, CityWalk is unlikely to make any large capital improvements. They don't need to.

Or walk to SSR and take the bus from there. There is at least 1 guy on here who really gets annoyed with people who do that. Point is its still a relatively long walk (MK to CR being the shortest and still takes about 10mins) plus a bus ride vs just walking out of the parks at Universal.

Love 5 guys. Always a good add anywhere.

The difference is T-Rex and Rainforest Cafe are both owned by Landrys, a 3rd party vendor. It was their choice to build a second location at DTD. Disney Quest is owned by Disney and it costs money to get in. The Nintendo World store is basically a store that sells the wii and other Nintendo systems and games but is also basically a big arcade where people can try out the latest games...for free. Why pay to get into Disney Quest when you could go to Nintendo World store and play games for free. That's where the problem comes in.

Got ya now. My brain isn't working today. Lack of sleep. I was thinking of Nintendo World as an additional location. That makes a lot of sense. They definitely need an update at Disney Quest. Why not outsource it?
